For me...

  • Desktop has to be clear,
  • If I'm not using an app, I have to quit it,
  • Web browser has to be top hand left of screen aligned with the edge of the top menu bar,
  • Web browser about 3/4 of the screen across, then in that space Mac:Messenger goes there and any chat windows in remaining top space,
  • Don't like anything in the trash,
  • All fider windows have to be the same size.

I thought of some more...

-My Safari window has to be the left of the screen with about 2mm off from touching the side of the computers screen and it takes up nearly the whole screen but making the files on the desktop visible for easy dragging and dropping between safari and the desktop

-No horizontal scroll bars!!!! That is probably the worst!!! In iTunes they have to fill that screen perfectly so there isn't a gap and no horizontal scroll bar!!!

And also in dashboard, whenever I leave it, I have to click on the calculator so that it's screen is "on" or just looked like it is lit.

iTunes album art and it has been ever since they introduced the darn stuff (well coverflow anyway) and capitilisation. songs must have the first letter of every word in capitals UNLESS it is, and or if ect. UNLESS it is the first word of the title then it gets a capital

i have a few:

-windows that i want to have lots of space like safari and itunes have to take up every pixel of the screen (it also cant overflow the screen)
-nothing can reflect on the dock
-itunes has all the proper tags.
-i NEVER use garageband and creative apps with the dock not hiding
-if every window of a given application is minimized the application must be hidden
-my dock has to be organized in a certain way, system preferences has to be the last app, and safari has to be next to finder, internet apps on the left, adobe apps on the right....
-unused apps must be quit
-my desktop picture has to fill my entire screen, if it doesnt i wont use it
-everything has to have a leopard folder and a 512x512 icon
-if i think an app has an ugly icon, i change it
-if the dock is too big or too small i change it

theres probably more that i cant think of right now

if I'm not using the app i hide it i only quit when im SURE i wont use it
widgets not touching
all album art, if it doesn't have any i will make my own
nothing minimized, only hidden
no trash
nothing in downloads folder
3 HDs on desktop and that's it
one of MY pictures for the background
always have Firefox, iTunes, and iChat open

im sure there will be more as i continue the mac move

Those for me.

And I also align small windows (like Adium or iChat) so that there's a 1px-line between them and they have the same size (when it's possible). :D Beat that ;)

whenever i first turn on my computer, or quit using parallels, i have to change the name of the windows partion from "WINDOWS XP" to "Windows XP". Having it in all caps bugs me for some reason.

Beat that.

  • Unused applications must be properly quit
  • Firefox Window must be "maximized" to a specific size
  • The doct must be kept clean and minimal

Those are the basic "rules" of use that I'm OCD about enough to "suggest" to guest users on my computer.

Apps closed
Trash empty
Desktop clear other than drives (which have to be in a perfect vertical line)

I quit (completely quit) the Dashboard when I'm done using it.
I went so far as to put an AppleScript on my menu bar that I can execute to quit the Dashboard for me.

I can't stand having anything in the downloads folder. It has to be filed away.

I can't stand having anything stored on the clipboard when I'm done using it. Again, AppleScript in the menu bar.

Empty trash, yep.

I don't mind any apps running when I'm not using them, except for Safari. I quit Safari completely when I'm not using it because of the memory leak.

Wow, this is an awesome thread, I also thought I was the only one that's anal about my computer. Here's my short list:

Safari or Firefox must stay centered with the dock. (seems to be popular here)

My Finder windows must be set for Coverflow for Applications, Movies and Utilities, Icon view for Documents, Pictures and Music.

My Desktop Wallpaper must reveal the translucency in the Menu Bar.

Nothing on the desktop except my dot Mac local drive.

The Safari downloads window must be on the bottom left of the dock and set to "horizontal view" and must be set to delete after downloading.

I must restart at least twice a week to keep the memory from paging out even though I have 4GB ram and I will reformat every 6 months even if the computer is running fine and I will reformat anytime the computer is acting a little weird.

Preview must have all available tools set up in the gray bar, i.e, the highlighter, crop, search....

Wow, finally, a thread I can relate to! :D

To start with, whenever I get a new computer, I must make my room spotless. Completely pristine.

I hate having applications like Preview and TextEdit open.

I never minimize windows; I only hide them.

Nothing on the desktop but Blackintosh HD.

I can't stand having the Trash empty, and I don't know why.

I never run on battery unless I have a specific need to.

Mines has to be one of the worst,

If I get an error message or any app on my iMac crashes I have to reinstall the OS. It is an obsession. I feel that everything is all cluttered and messy on its hdd. Since buying my iMac in December 2007 I must have installed leopard approximately 20 times.

I think we have a winner!

I suppose you should just be thankful that you have an iMac rather than a PC running Vista!

WOW!
You are the winner!.... hands down.
I salute you sir.

I have these little things that I have to do when I'm on my computer. Two main ones that I can think of are...

-Whenever I leave the computer I have to click the desktop so it says "Finder" in the menu bar. I can't stand having everything closed but still have the last open window's application name in the menu bar.

-I can't have a file selected and not in use. Like If I drag a file from the desktop into iTunes, once I drop it into iTunes it is still selected on the desktop (this for me is the worse thing about leopard), so I have to click on the desktop and then click anywhere on the desktop again for it to become "un-selected".

Any of you guys have some "Mac OCD's"?
Hhahahah thats exactly what I do too, seriously thats hilarious because I just de-selected something on the desktop like 5 secs ago.

About a year ago, the PSU fan died on my gaming PC (Yes, I said "PC"), ever since then, I always have to constantly reach my arm around to the back of the case, and make sure the new fan is still working.

This is the best thread!!!

All of my Dock icons have to look really good and they must be spaced nicely... I hate it when two square icons are touching.

None of my windows can be touching the menubar or the sides of the screen. Windows can overlap when needed, but I try to fit them on the screen carefully.

All of my windows must have just the right size so that icons or names do not get clipped off at the bottom (I hate when there's half of a word and I have to scroll down to see the rest of it.

I hate horizontal scroll bars and I always avoid them.

My keyboard has to always be paralell to my monitor.

I always use Title Case when naming files and Folders and I avoid underscores.

My Dock has to be set at a "snap-to" size like 64px.

I cannot have my Safari bookmarks extend passed the window size.

My Safari window is always in widescreen view.

My downloads folder is always getting cleaned out.

I am a sucker for always getting Apple brand stuff, other stuff just seems cheesy in comparison.

I have to use snap to grid on my desktop. I use sort by name in all other windows.

I always quit apps that I don't plan on using for a while.

I hate aliases for some reason.

I have way more, but those are a few of my OCDs

Well,
-I always keep my desk organized
-All my iTunes music is highly organized (Artist, Album, Genre)
-I don't keep anything but my HD on the desktop
-I like to keep the trash empty
-I try to keep my Documents and Downloads folders tidy

I must have unused apps closed.
I must deselect items on the desktop.
I go to the first Space when I put it to sleep.
I need an empty Trash.
I must have an orderly desktop that is not too full.
I never have multiple windows in Safari.
I gotta have my Spy. First tab on the left. Always. (but that's more of a general MacRumors thing)
I will not tolerate extensions on files. It makes my computer look Windowsy.

I feel that everything is all cluttered and messy on its hdd.

And repairing permissions just doesn't do it for you, eh?

No, it doesn't. When it felt messy I felt the only way for it to feel fresh again was to reinstall Leopard. Can I also say that I don't have that iMac any longer as I needed portability (Signature) and it's only 5 days old, I am setting myself a target not to reinstall the OS at all for the time I've got it.
