Everything in iTunes must be named properly. All words such as and and if etc must be lower case (why do people capitalise And in song titles?!). If album art is not available for an album it annoys me no end :(.

Ah yes that reminds me. Dock must be set to auto hide at all times and located at the bottom of the screen. Seems like such a waste of screen space having the dock showing all the time.

For me, the dock is never set to auto-hide -- but I'm not one of those magnifying freaks either.

I like it there to remind me what OS I'm running... it's good to be back!

I like to think I'm not too bad.

  • Everything in iTunes has to spelt correctly with capital letters and has to have artwork if at all possible.
  • my Trash has to be empty. All the time.
  • I have to have Safari at just the right size on the right hand of the screen so that I can have adium chat windows along the left side and fit on the screen.
  • Can't have anything on the desktop or in my Downloads folder.

Greetings fellow freaks!

1. The Trash must be empty!!!
2. Nothing but HDs are allowed onto my desktop and they have to be in a perfect line.
3. Safari must sit precisely in the middle of my screen. Adium fills the gap on the left. The gap left on the right must precisely match the space filled my Adium......or it's just odd! :D
4. Downloads folder must be empty

-the downloads stack should be emptied asap
-Adium always in top left corner
-Safari, iWork windows aligned to be centered with the dock, taking maximum vertical space
-closing every app that isn't used
-turning off the Mac whenever I leave the house or go to sleep

I am so glad I am not alone, here are my obsessions..

-Icons in dock cannot be touching and are in order of most use for the most part. I cannot have more than 3 running applications next to each other in the dock.

-All windows are the exact same size, and never minimized. Expose ftw.

-Every single song/album is capatalized and punctuated correctly. & signs are not allowed. Hi-res artwork has to be present, if I can't find one I use an artist photo.

-Widgets are not allowed to touch in Dashboard and are spaced to my liking.

-Items must always be deselected if on my desktop, but are usually filed away right away anyway.

-Apps not in use are not allowed to be open.

-I rely heavily on secure empty trash and practice it often. I can't stand to see my trash full.

-Bookmarks in Safari have to be in alphabetical order whether it be in the bar or the menu.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but you get the idea.

I didn't realize I was OCD about this stuff until I read this thread.

--Must have absolutely nothing on the desktop
--All album art in iTunes
--When I leave the computer it must be on Space 1
--I always wake up the computer using the right arrow key
--Mail, Firefox, & iCal are all aligned on at the top left, each on their own space where nothing else resides
--Adium contact list must stay in the upper right hand corner with the chat box below it, and any currently playing video below that
--All apps must be closed before shutting down the computer  otherwise they remain open, even when not in use

Oh man. This thread is right up my alley. Let's see, this is what I can think of at the moment:

- I'm the same with Finder being active on my desktop if I walk away from my computer for a few minutes, nlivo.
- Clean desktop
- Semi-small dock
- Having an empty trash
- Washing my hands thoroughly before use if needed (hey, you've gotta keep your white MacBook clean somehow!)
- ONE Safari window open w/ multiple tabs (I can't stand having more than one window open)

With iTunes, specifically? I'm crazy about making sure everything has album art and is grammatically pretty. Some of my albums at the moment don't (can't find a good quality or iTunes can't pick it up) and it drives me insane.

I'm sure there are plenty of others, but this is all I can come up with at the moment!

The only thing I can really think of is:

On my dock, I have the most used apps to the left, then I have music and other productivity apps in the middle like Word, Photoshop, Final cut etc. and all teh way to the right i have System things like System pref, terminal, Onyx.

Nice to know I'm not the only one with OCD about computing preferences...

• I'm very picky about putting my Dock items into groups - Internet apps to the left, then regular Apps (Photoshop, Word, Toast, etc), then media apps (VLC, media players, MP3 players), next up are the music apps (Garageband, Logic Express, Line6 Gearbox), then software like Visualhub, Handbrake....and at the end comes financial software and games.

• I keep the desktop clean most of the time (unfortunately I'm not totally OCD about that), but I would love to be able to remove one or two hard drives off my desktop, but leave the others...is there any way to do this?

• I hate having to reboot and losing a great uptime - the only time I'll reboot is in the event of a kernel panic or if there's a major update that I feel will be useful.

• My IM (Adium) can't be touching the edge of the screen or the top taskbar - I keep it just slightly off the edges.

• On the other hand, I want Firefox to touch the top of the screen, if it's not, it drives me nuts. Also with Firefox, I don't open more than one window because I usually have at least 7-10 tabs open at any one time.

• I actually don't care if my trash is always empty, but when I go to my gmail account, I *HAVE* to empty out my spam folder - if I see even 1 message in there, I go delete it immediately.

• I hate having preview or Smultron open after I've used them...gotta be closed after I'm done.

• I really want a Les Paul as my Garageband icon, but haven't been able to find a nice one - anyone have one? :)

This isn't Mac, but it's for my iPod Touch:

- If WiFi isn't in use, it goes off.
- All my apps are grouped into pages by category, and are alphabetical.
- I have to wipe every last square inch of it with a cloth if it gets even one fingerprint.
- It gets turned completely off if it won't be used for more than 24h.

Those damned translucent menus...vile temptress. I really would like them back, probably more than is normal--just today I completely hosed my system in the name of science, trying to integrate the hacked (old) UI-Art/Theme files with 10.5.5.

And I did put full Album Art for everything in iTunes--I had an algorithm try to do it first, then had to manually fix the 25% that were f*cked up. Took me a few days of tiny amphetaminergic bursts of effort.

always close apps that aren't being used.
I like the desktop to be tidy.
Don't like the trash having anything in it.

those for me though am trying to crack some obsessive behavior of zeroing external hard drive constantly

- desktop must be completely clean
- trash must be empty
- all frequently used applications I'm not using right now must be hidden
- all other apps must be closed after using
- all tracks in itunes must have covers

desktop has to be clean. All my music must be probably tagged as well as bookmarks and all my code. Not really ocd but organization will set you free :)

Can't help but think of the rich Texan from the simpsons who must tap his foot every time he shoots his gun.

- Programs cannot just be hidden, either the window is open and being used or the application must be quit.
- Desktop can only have hard drive icons.
- Sound must be muted whenever iTunes isn't open.
- Windows must be centered, and all other windows must be smaller than Safari, as I use that the most.
- iPods cannot be connected if I leave the computer on it's own.
- Anything I am not using must be deleted.

wow these are amusing

i dont really have any come to think about it

well why are you even posting here then? (jokes)

i to always have to have iTunes in the middle of the screen, System Preferences at its default height in the middle of the screen and in alphabetical order and have Safari always exactly 15 pixels from the menu bar and dock/or bottom of screen with tabs. annoys me when i disconnect my MBP from my ACD and they both change… especially System Preferences moving down… what the hell?

My OCD is window sizing. I would recommend MercuryMover to anyone posting in this thread :)

  • Trash is never empty, usually over 1GB in size (2.67GB now)
  • Wallpaper cannot be black
  • Finder window width must be able to view applications folder without horizontal scrolling
  • Trackpad is cleaned almost daily (no grease)
  • Applications are almost never closed except for Terminal, Preview and MAMP
  • Only two widgets, ever

* Unzipped files must be deleted, only leaving the zip file.
* Downloaded wallpapers must be given a proper name before moving to the "wallpapers" picture folder (i.e. "00456_icycoldleaves.jpg" becomes "Frost Leaves")
* Applications in dock must be organized by type. Right now I have Browser, Mail, Adium, then iTunes Word, and then all the photo apps, iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture, CS2, Flickr uploader, system prefs.
* Must use another icon for the HD and use my name as the HD name (makes me feel important).
* Only back up to Time Machine once a month. Flash Drive and ink pen must be within arms length.
* :apple: + tab is the best thing in the world :D
* Most of all, the wallpaper must change at least twice a day to keep me sane! and it must be calming.

My OCD on my Mac's....

My iTunes Library must be completely filled out, have album art, and have ratings.

Now... this one isn't really a OCD or on a Mac, but it is a pet peeve of mine...
I HATE it when people say "iTouch"... there is NO SUCH THING! It is an iPod Touch... get it RIGHT! GRRR! Like I said, this isn't really a Mac thing or OCD, but a Apple Thing and a Pet Peeve. lol. I'm weird like that.
