My OCD on my Mac's....

My iTunes Library must be completely filled out, have album art, and have ratings.

Now... this one isn't really a OCD or on a Mac, but it is a pet peeve of mine...
I HATE it when people say "iTouch"... there is NO SUCH THING! It is an iPod Touch... get it RIGHT! GRRR! Like I said, this isn't really a Mac thing or OCD, but a Apple Thing and a Pet Peeve. lol. I'm weird like that.

Just to set this straight, OCD is a psychological disease process. Compulsions are the things being listed here. According to the DSM-IV, you must present with chronic compulsions that interfere with everyday function for a period of no less than six months prior to being diagnosed. No one just becomes OCD because they like things clean and neat.

Anyway... I agree with the iTunes thing, it drives me insane to be using cover flow and have one with the tied eighths sign.
Ignoring some obvious faults in your grammar, I completely agree with the iPod Touch thing as well. If people must shorten it, it would be better to say "Touch." I had a friend who got his first iPod about 2 years ago and he always said "oh yeah, listen to this song on my pod" DROVE ME INSANE...

* One more thing I forgot to mention, I must always have at least 1/4 of my memory free using ifreemem.

I agree with the iTouch thing. It bugs me. People don't say iNano or iClassic do they? or iShuffle?

I have the desktop disabled. I hate things on the desktop.

Notebook has to have dock on bottom, automatically hidden; desktop has to have dock on right edge but not hidden.

Dark wallpaper only.

I have to have every icon customized, and I have tried several times to have them all match exactly, but never found enough and the right icons to finish. If an application/folder doesn't have a custom icon though, it doesn't go on the Dock or the Desktop (which stays clean, just a few specific aliases for easy reference).

This website is my Mac OCD :(

It's funny... The one site I visit most on my iPhone is this site to talk about the iPhone... that's sad.

My list is:

- Dashboard must be tidy, everything must be layed out so that it doesn't overlap.

- I have to check my files in finder every now and then to make sure they don't disappear. It gets annoying sometimes but I can't rest until I check.

- When closing my MacBook I must close the lid carefully and slowly because I'm scared of damaging the casing.

- I don't like to leave applications open when I shut the lid, the only one I make an exception for is iTunes for some reason and even then it must be in its small form.

- I have a folder called 'Stuff' on my desktop and all desktop clutter must go in there, later, I'll sift through it and move things to appropriate folders or trash some things.

- I must have the menu bar saying 'finder' before I close the lid of the MacBook.

Whenever I read an email on my iPhone or MacBook, I have to go and make sure that it is marked as read on both devices, even though it would do it automatically after a few minutes. The same goes for deleting emails.

Also, whenever I am typing something in Word, and it underlines in red a Word that is clearly correct, I have to instantly get rid of the red line. This often happens because stupid Microsoft Office doesn't understand the difference between real English and US English.

Lets see, i can't have anything on my desktop except the mac hd, backup drive, and "Everything Else", for everything else i am too lazy to sort:D

I think I have only one OCD. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I hate it when an alias says "Something alias." 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I always change it so it says "Something." 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Under OS 9, I could get real anal about the way applications were listed under the Apple Menu. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I really miss that about OS X, but maybe it's a good thing. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

mt 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

I travel - a lot. And when I'm in hotel rooms, with the Mac plugged in to charge, the light from the MagPlug keeps me awake. In a very dark hotel room it shines up the walls with first an orange and then a green glow.

So, before I go to sleep, I get a towel from the washroom and lay it over the Mac. The sleep light also causes trouble, so I will usually roll the chair over in front of the desk to block the pulsing light.

There's a name for this - MacLightNervosa

What a Fascinating Thread!

While I'm not as bad as the guy who reinstalls Leopard after every app crash, I will admit I have a mental laundry list of things that have to be just so-so on my Apple stuff.

MacBook
· "So-and-so's Computer" must be changed to "MacBook"
· "Macintosh HD" must be changed to "Internal Disk"
· Disks are always formatted and named with "...Disk" or "...DVD" in the title
· Wallpapers must be of super-high quality, never noisy or color-banded
· Wallpaper must not be so light as to show off the Dock's "up-shadow"
· I don't really have any obsession about the Trash or about running apps
· Nothing on the Desktop is to be left highlighted
· Actually, make that nothing on the Desktop... nothing, nothing, nothing
· When there are no windows open, it must say Finder in the menu bar
· I'm an app-hider more than a minimizer
· Dock is sized to 48 pixels, Finder windows are in 64-pixel icon view
· Dock must be in the order of an official Leopard screenshot, with any added apps falling between the end of the iApps and the beginning of Time Machine and System Preferences
· Safari, Mail, Candybar, iTunes, and many other apps must be fullscreen minus 20 pixels (I have a Safari bookmarklet to size it properly)
· Finder windows are sized as above, but minus 200 pixels on the sides
· Finder sidebars are identically-sized in all windows
· Windows like iChat's Buddy List are sized for the contents, no more, no less
· Sound volume must be set at an even number, or in fours
· Dashboard widgets are grouped around center-screen and have 20 pixels of boundary between each one
· Downloads stack is set to Fan, if it fills up with "X more in Finder", it's time to clean it out
· I wash my hands before using the Mac, and I swipe a microfiber cloth across the keyboard after use
· I make elaborate plans to murder people who say "Mac Oh Ess Ecks"

iTunes:
· Columns are sized perfectly for the window width, and identically in each playlist
· Every playlist is in CoverFlow except Smart Playlists such as "Most Played", etc.
· Every word (with more than two letters) must have the first letter capitalized
· 100% album art
· No "Best Of" albums, originals only

iPhone:
· The first page of apps must resemble the "stock" iPhone
· Third-party apps are categorized in horizontal rows a la Apple's layout
· SMS history must be periodically cleared
· Upon quitting Safari, a blank new page must be created
· The phone probably gets cleaned more often than my hands are washed

I don't feel bad about any of that, either! Makes complete sense to me.

Wow, finally, a thread I can relate to! :D

To start with, whenever I get a new computer, I must make my room spotless. Completely pristine.

I do the same!

Example, when I got my MobileMe, I must have spent 3 hours cleaning my room. When I got my AirPort, I made sure that all of the cables going to it were neatly tied with cable ties.

I never leave any apps open than aren't in use
Desktop is spotless
Trash ALWAYS gets emptied
Songs, Movies and Documents are meticulously labeled and sorted
Finder is always in menu bar if no other windows are open
Hands are washed every time I come back to my Macbook

i dont think i have any to be honest

my desktop gets messy, itunes is not organized perfectly, i leave multiple apps open even when not using them

ill have to think about any i may have lol

Safari window must be placed to the left side of the screen, touching left edge, menu bar and bottom edge. The window's width must be exactly enough to fit the teamliquid.net width. This leaves me with space for Adium chat window, a side of Mail and a column of icons on the desktop. On a 13" screen :D.

No ugly icons in the Dock. If the icon is ugly I change it.

No item selected on desktop

Trash must be emptied ASAP

Icons in the Dock are grouped: Internet, Study, (torrent client, iTunes), video conversion, graphics, media players, (stuff), (System Preferences).

iTunes is the only app I use maximized to full screen (I have the entire Space 2 for it) and it always must be open, because its the streaming server to iMac and AirTunes.

Preview, QuickTime and TextEdit must be closed if nothing is open inside them.

All I can think of for now...

Wow

Well? I used to think i was OCD but not now after reading this thread. :)
I think I'm actually normal now.
I did get some good ideas tho

Don't like the trash having anything in it.
-I can't have a file selected and not in use.

Two biggies for me.

1. I can't stand having duplicate files around - things must be sent to Trash and deleted immediately after they're filed by iTunes or iPhoto.

2. I have this compulsion also that only app based on my current task or workflow can be open - which means on any given day I'll open an app and quit it multiple times.

3. Also, I am fastidious about spaces - certain apps have to be in their Space. It's weird, I know, but I actually get disoriented at times if Safari or iTunes or Photoshop is open in the wrong Space. Odd..
