Trying to convince my parents to let me buy an iPhone 5 as my first phone. I pay for the phone and I pay my parents for the 2 year contract the day I get it. There is a pretty good chance

First phone? What age are you mate?? Pretty fancy first phone!!
If he actually has all the stuff in his signature, I'd guess he's old enough for an iPhone![]()

Yep, https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/13232883/ that's my setup (I paid for all of it)
And it's about time I get a phone. When you become a teenager it gets necessary. But if I convince my parents to let me get one I pay for the phone and the contract
I'm 13, but I am an Apple Dev and it is pretty normal to have an iPhone where I am

I bought a 12 year old a white iPhone 4 earlier this year and until reading this thread I didn't know it wasn't common for them to have one, I thought at the time all kids had iPhones.
Saying that though I am quite a rich 20 year old (due to a trust fund)![]()
I hope Apple gives me a 4' screen so I can stay with iOS but if not...
I have a plan to upgrade from an iPhone 3GS to a HTC Inspire 4G, making some profit in the process.
1) Buy HTC Inspire 4G on eBay for ~$260
2) Buy iPhone 5 on release day for ~$249 (Phone cost + activation fee + taxes)
3) Sell iPhone 5 (sealed box) on eBay for ~$650 (after eBay fees)
4) Sell iPhone 3GS 16GB (mint condition) on eBay for ~$240 (after eBay fees)
After all listed above is done, I would have $381 (very rough estimate) in profit. My main reasons for choosing the Inspire over the iPhone 5 are the profit made, AT&T 4G (fake 4G, only slightly faster than 3G), larger screen, minecraft (release soon), and customizability of Android. Though, when it comes to the stability and complexity of Android, I really despise it.
Does anyone remember what iPhone 4's were selling for on eBay two weeks after release last year? I'm wondering if my $650 estimate is a little too low.
It's not as uncommon as people are making it out to be...
As a young student, I see almost half of the people at school have smartphones nowadays. That's just my area though :/
Here is my master plan. I live in the UK so I'll mention UK carriers.
I'm also assuming all contracts for iPhones will be the same price with same benefits.
I'm going to get an iPhone 5 off contract from apple asap, the biggest capacity one.
Then I'll call O2 and get a sim only contract, probably the 12 month one (@£21.50 a month) w/500mbs internet, 600mins and unlimited texts. I can always add on an extra 500mbs if I need it for £4 a month afterwards.
Hopefully with O2 I can just upgrade my current contract (which is much cheaper/older but with O2) to the sim only one, or do something where I can keep my number, though I wouldn't be opposed to getting a new number.
I figured that going sim free would cost me about £50 more (based on current prices) than getting a 32 or £5 less than a 37£ a month 2 year contract with subsidised phone but I think I'd prefer the option of switching carriers more regularly plus it'd be easier to sell it and get the iPhone 6 if I wanted.
Long reply but my plan in a nutshell. Bits might not make sense, but it does to me lol.
I'm on that simplicity contract currently and love it. I got a free £50 gift certificate with Amazon for it, and you get tethering included too and 20 free MMS messages. I love O2's prices, as well as coverage, it's all great.
Will be buying iPhone 5 day 1 off contract and use my simplicity sim in it. (Currently on a 3GS, which i'm selling to my Sister for cheap)
