What is your plan for your next phone purchase?

Honestly, I'd have to see what it is first. Given all the rumors, it can swing either way: a mere upgraded iPhone 4 (aka 4S) which would be hardly appealing to me, or a fully redesigned 5, which would obviously be more tempting.

It really depends.

My plan is to preorder the iPhone 5 the morning it is available. Even if it's just a 4S, which it won't be, it will work for me since I've grown to love the design of the 4 and have become jealous of my friends who have one. I'm also on the 3GS now, so the 4S would be a major upgrade for me.

I've been waiting to do this since June.

I'll wait it out a bit. I'm fine with the 4 for another year or so. Might even wait until the 6. In this economy, I can use the cash for other things and skip an upgrade if need be.

I'm really hoping to be astounded by the iPhone 5, but if it really just dissapoints me then I'll definitely be looking into the new android OS devices that are already out.

I really hope apple doesn't let me down, or push release dates back for that matter.

I will probably end up getting the next iphone. I was able to pre-order our iphone 4's last time around, so I will probably try to do that again.

Pretty simple really.

iPhone 5 screen size is < 4", I buy the nicest droid out at the time.

iPhone 5 screen size is > or = to 4", It's another iPhone.

I have to wait and see. But if the screen gets to big, ie it makes the phone more cumbersome, and I don't mean weight, then I will probably just stick with my 4.

Sell my iPhone 4 in the next week or 2

Queue up outside an O2 shop from the early hours on the morning of the release of the iPhone 5

Go home and play with it for hours

I got my iPhone 3GS on christmas eve in 2009. My 2 year contract will be up again on christmas eve so I'll be able to get my upgrade to the new iPhone when it comes out.
Always a nice christmas present. I'm willing to wait even if it comes out in september or october, a few months is fine with me.

Since they will probably drop the price of the iPhone 4 after the 5 comes out I'll buy one of those shortly after the 5 is released if I have enough money.

I switched over from AT&T to Verizon in July, so I'll be sticking it out with my iPhone 4 for another year. Unless the "iPhone 5" has some great feature that I absolutely need. Then I would sell my 4, and use that money to purchase the 5 off contract.

Loving the new Bionic but I'm waiting to see what the iPhone 5 looks like, and also the Nexus Prime.

If the iPhone 5 has a 4"+ screen, LTE, 1080p recording and better cam quality, then it's a day 1 buy for me.

If it doesn't, then I will evaluate the Bionic and Prime.

If I don't like any of them, I'll stick with my iPhone 4 until next year.

Right now, there aren't many phones in 2011 that intrigue me. Just more of the same and the typical upgrading we will see every new year. We will likely have quad core phones by next year. The landscape is becoming stagnant and nothing is "fresh" anymore like it was back in 2007-2008. More refining of things.

Of all the phones released in 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best reviewed so far. The most popular is obviously a phone from last year known as the iPhone 4. But once the iPhone 5 and Nexus Prime come out, it will be the be a two-horse race when it comes to being the best between an Apple phone vs Google phone manufactured by Sammy. iOS5 vs Ice Cream Sandwich. I don't see WP7 phones making a dent this year. WP7's only real headliner all year has been the Mango update. No specific model is getting hyped up and I hear the Nokia models don't really stand out from the rest of the WP7 phones.

I tend to map out my gadget purchases months in advance and then use them for years or sell them if I get bored fast. But since the tide can change fast, I can never be too sure what to buy next. Right now, I want to follow in Jon Rettinger's footsteps and get a BlackBerry 9900. I love that keyboard and miss the notification lights. But since BB OS will be dead once QNX is out, I can't decide. This all depends if the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook drops to a $199 price point this year seeing those TouchPads went off for $99 and practically have the same UI and problems of lacking apps. If that is the case, I will get the PB and use my AT&T upgrade by Feb 2012 to get the 9900. I really like its design. Hopefully, the 9900 can be much cheaper with contract five months from now. If the PB doesn't drop in price, then will just wait for the QNX phone coming to AT&T and not get the PB and 9900 at all. Depends on the price and my patience at the time. I can still be fairly content using my iPhone 4 until the end of my contract by June of next year.

2012
Main phone - BlackBerry 9900 or QNX phone like the Colt
Tablet - BlackBerry PlayBook?
iPod/backup phone - iPhone 4
Handheld - PS Vita

Should have everything covered.

RIM's QNX phones are going to be amazing

Whichever comes out first on AT&T, the Blackberry 9900 or the iP5 is what I will get. Have a Nexus One right now and had iPhones from the original edge-only version to the 3G, then Blackberry and now the N1. Not too thrilled with Android so I'm looking at either iOS or BB OS7. I want the 9900 more than the iP5, but want to get rid of this phone more than I want the BB so whatever comes out first I'll get.

Well my wife's line is the primary line and as such is eligible for an upgrade every 12 months, she loves her current iPhone 4 so she will almost certainly be upgrading to the new one. I've been using an unlocked Nokia E71 for the last 2+ years so I'm also technically upgrade eligible, but I'm undecided. I really enjoyed my month with Android on the Inspire 4G, and I've also enjoyed playing with the iPhone. I could just use her iPhone 4 once she upgrades and continue off contract on my line. I'd like a 4 inch screen, and widgets wouldn't hurt, so if the new iPhone has those things then it's a pretty easy choice for me.

Have no line upgrades available. Selling my iPhone 4 within the next few day. Suffering with the available Palm Pixi Plus then buying the next :apple: iPhone! :)

What do you do about the sim card when you have to use an older phone for a while as you sell your iphone 4? is it possible to use a microsim in a regular sized sim phone? (clearly assuming you have a gsm iphone here lol).

haha nope. Verizon so I have no clue about the sim cards! :D

Damn :p. and i never really understood how phones work without them lol. *goes off to learn something* :D

Micro SIM adapter.

Probably only like 5 cents a piece :) okay that's an exageration, but really, I had one once and I think it was just a little piece of plastic to hold the Micro SIM in the same way a normal SIM would be held in the little slot

Waiting to see what the 5's like, but if it's not major leap forward I may just go with the iPhone 4 which I would imagine may come down in price a bit too

I meant how they work without sim cards! Like the sim card has the number associated to it, thus easy to take it out and put it in a diff phone etc.

Never knew how a phone would know it was you without one.
