I watched an oldie but a goodie last night, Beetlejuice.

Solomon Kane again. Love James Purefoy - am not really bothered they went with an origin instead of Howard's great stories. I could have watched an entire movie with the pirate Kane from the first 10 minutes too. Kind of annoyed I missed the limited theatrical run.

Looking forward to Ironclad (will hopefully have the blu ray by the end of the week.)

Flipping through the movies on Amazon Prime via Xbox, I decided to put on Chinatown (1974) with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. I've never seen it before so I'm hoping it's a good one.

Just seen Thor 2. As I haven't seen Thor 1, The Avengers Assemble, Captain America or Iron Man, I thought it would make it difficult to follow. However it really didn't matter. It was not the greatest to be honest, but my friend was quite insistent.

Was watching this indie flick called Computer Chess. Really retro and nerdy vibe, but a bit too slow. Will finished tonight.

One of the greatest movies I have ever seen. This movie is a roller coaster of emotions.

I finally saw this after years of hearing that. Not impressed myself. But I'm obviously in the minority on this one.

Thor 2? Boot leg?

To put it this way, most people would praise those who are under agonizing and yet creating comfort or happiness while suffering, considering them strong, precious, and deserve to be admire.

Now "Life is Beautiful" offer more than that, it's the ultimate diabolical hellish sadistic theme(waiting to be butchered), for a child who has no awareness of or capacity to realize and handle the depth of the cruelty; among them you see not just parental care, it's the ultimate protection of a sprout with paramount effectiveness to against the hostile situation, the sublime spirit to create emotional security in the child's mental state, and the epitome of altruism - the very best kind of quality that human trying to achieve.

The movie shows he triumphs, despite in reality his chance are extremely low, when his son finally sees the the tanks from US, the prize of "the game". That is the grandeur idea that set this movie apart.

A bit off topic, but maybe of some minor interest...

Bonhams auction gallery in NY is having an auction of movie memorabilia. One of the items up for auction in the original statue of the maltese falcon.

When I first heard about it, I thought while I'd love to bid, the thing would go for at least $10,000. I just read that the current estimate of the selling price is $1.5 MILLION!

I'm sure you all will be interested in bidding on it...or some other little item. I have to check my wallet right now...so expect some heavy competition from me if you decide to bid on the falcon!

Trust me, I "got it". I just thought a lot of the movie didn't work for me. The whole final, trying to find his wife sequence just didn't work for me. He was running around like an idiot, the spot light kept missing him like this was a parody of a prison break movie, all of that up to the out of nowhere, hit you in the face with the point of the movie, narration from the kid all grown up....maybe its the directing I didn't like. Maybe the version I saw was edited from the original version. Something was just off about the pacing and it felt like a work in progress.

Thor 2 was released early in other countries.

And I'm with you re: Life is Beautiful.

Interesting. Thought we get the made in the USA movies first. Oh well. Not looking that forward to it anyway. Maybe Capt America....

Watching Giorgio Moroder's version of Metropolis. Very unique and quite an experiment. Overall I like it. Giving it some kind of 80s videoclip appeal, much faster pace, tinted colors and subtitles (!) instead of the usual intertitles. It's probably a hit and miss with the music, I like Moroder a lot btw, but there are parts that work just brilliantly, so it's already worth watching for those alone in my opinion.

Even more outstanding/radical than the music is the usage of subtitles though. Lang used quite a lot of text, intertitles being shown also for a really long time for modern eyes, so getting rid of them is really changing the experience.

Interesting. I just added it to my queue in Netflix for later viewing.

Wonder what you'll think! :D

You know the original though? Not sure if I'd recommend it if not, would hate to see you disliking it altogether because of this version.

I like the instrumental parts best, although Freddy was a nice surprise - not sure if the comical effects were fully intentional though. I expected a bit more tbh, given his previous, enigmatic soundtracks (Scarface, Midnight Express, American Gigolo...) but it's worth a shot I'd say.

No I haven't seen either or any of them, nor heard of them before. But I have heard of Giorgio Moroder due to Daft Punk's latest album from over the summer.

Saw the British movie 'Philomena' this afternoon; beautifully acted (especially the wonderful Judi Dench), bitter-sweet, and based on a true story, it is a thoughtful, very well made movie.
