I never watched the show. I'll check it out once it is available for streaming.

Lol. In the realm of disaster flicks, at least a movie like Dante's Peak, there was a scientist trying to figure something out before disaster hits. Titanic was great (IMO) because in addition to historical and technical interest, it wrapped a compelling personal interest story into the disaster. I take it there was no compelling story being told here? People living their lives, then running around and screaming as they get snuffed?![]()
Finally got a chance to see the Grand Budapest Hotel last night. I really enjoyed it, I like how Wes Anderson seems to be scarred from Fantastic Mr. Fox in how all the characters act like finicky foxes. Might be a strange comment, but I believe it to be true. I think that he has a very unique touch, and it is very enjoyable. Everything is a very concise calculation. A good example of this is the scene in the confessional towards the end.
I would recommend this to anyone![]()
Is this based on Raymond Chandler's hardboiled crime novel of the same name? Is it any good?
Yes it is based on it, although I've never read it. I thought the movie was good, but I fell asleep halfway through it last night. Not because it was boring or uninteresting, but because I underestimated my ability to stay awake! My eyelids blink rate became slower and longer in duration until, before I knew it, I was unconscious.
I'll have to finish it today.

Yes, it's based on the Chandler novel...and it's a brilliant (imo) film noir classic.
Caveat!
First, if you have trouble following the plot dont feel bad, NOBODY knows the plot of the movie. Its a standing joke among film noir enthusiasts that no one knows the plot and its a fantastic movie nonetheless.
Bogart was asked about the plot, and he said he had no idea!
The screenwriter, William Faulkner (yes, THAT William Faulkner!) and his co-writer couldnt figure out a plot point so they called the books author, Raymond Chandler. He was offended, said Read the book! and hung up.
The next day he called back and said he re-read HIS OWN BOOK, and couldnt figure out the plot point, and told Faulkner Just do whatever the hell you want.
Remarkably, even though is laughably impossible to follow, it is considered on of the great film noir classics, and a must see for anyone interested in the history of film noir...or just wants to see a truly great film.
Okay I finished The Big Sleep this morning; actually, I just started from the beginning again. I liked it a lot, especially the quick and fast back and forth dialog at times.
Grand kids over...
How To Train Your Dragon 2- it was ok. Outstanding cinematography, decent story, but something about this franchise just does not really click for me. Saw at theater. Who said Vikings with Scottish accents?
Monster Inc.- Such a fine all around movie! Smart dialog, Billy Crystal, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi make this movie pop.
Megamind- Will Ferrell's best performance! Interesting story and great adult oriented humor (but not inappropriate for children). Outstanding infusion of contemporary music into the story, as good as Chicken Little!
Computer animation represents a revolution in entertainment! Many elements have attained photo realism status. Creativity has been unleashed, incredible boost to cinematography. After Avatar there's no going back. Am in!![]()
These are some of my favorite animated movies![]()
