I took note of the critical reviews, although I realize they often mean nothing. The critics hated Star Wars. ;) I may take a chance...

I never pay attention to critics. They hate everything. It's a Christopher Nolan movie, he's never made a bad one before.

Not sure what I'll end up watching tonight... I'm thinking something along the lines of Raising Arizona, but it all depends on which title sticks out on the shelf most. I could use a good laugh

When I am home one of my guilty pleasures is watching 'Downton Abbey', preferably with a glass of some serious beverage to keep me company while I do so; it is currently being broadcast on ITV (the independent British network) on Sunday nights. next Sunday is the final episode of this season (although the 'Christmas Special' will be doubtless broadcast on Christmas Day)

Actually, this is the first season since the first season (back in 2010) where my travel and work commitments have meant that I have caught almost every episode - I missed most of the past three seasons due to work abroad.

Season 5 doesn't air in the US until next year, but I'll be sure to watch. Pretty big fan of that show.

Thought I was going to see Interstellar this weekend at the theater, but then I started reading reviews and decided to hold off. Looking for a report from anyone who leaps. :)

I'm going to watch it tomorrow night. The only thing critics say against it is that the movie is "too intellectual". Yep, let's keep making transformers movies I suppose. I suggest you watch it. Some people are comparing it to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'll have to get back to you on that, but definitely am psyched to see it. That being said, I take reviews somewhat seriously, but as a Nolan fan, I'll watch any of his movies really.

TCM ran a terrific Romanov marathon on Wednesday night. I wish it would have been scheduled for tonight, but worth losing sleep over:

Nicholas and Alexandra (excellent - the actor playing Nicholas was superb) - Great to finally see this.

Anastasia - also wonderful (can't go wrong with Yul. Nice to see this again.)

and

Rasputin the Mad Monk - I can watch Christopher Lee in anything. RMM is one of my Lee favorite performances. He was having so much fun and so was I.

Picked up the tiny person from school yesterday, had a great late lunch at a local favorite, then hit up Big Hero 6! Really outstanding, I’m a comic/superhero fan, so it was right up my alley. Some beautiful art direction, great story, pretty intense for a “kids movie”, funny ... and some terrific surprises (stay for the post credits scene :D )

She LOVED it, hopefully we’ll see some Disney Infinity characters soon

Currently tracking at a well deserved 91% on RT:

I saw Interstellar last night with my wife. We both really like it.

Did you see it on IMAX? We’ve got a terrific (“real”) IMAX at the World Golf Village, planning on see in it there - I understand there’s a significant amount of IMAX footage that’s pretty stunning.

No, we didn't see it in IMAX. I bet it is outstanding on IMAX as it was pretty amazing on a regular screen.

I can see McConaughey getting another one of those A awards... ;)

Agreed, he was outstanding!

I don't think he'll win this time, but only because the role wasn't that introspective/demanding as a typical oscar role. He is really killing it though, I love watching him act.

I saw Interstellar in imax as well. Very interesting movie and it did remind me of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Book of Eli (2010)= cinematic art portraying a post-apolayptic world. Incredible bursts of violence telling a story of faith and manipulation, dark vs light. I can't belive it did not win for at least cinematography. Also a great illustration of how powerful music can be in telling a story.

"What was it like before the flash"?
"People had more than they needed. We had no idea what was precious. *chuckle* We threw away things, people would kill each other for now."

Yes

Can you believe they turned Mocking Jay (Hunger Games) into 2 movies?

This seems to be a trend after Twilight and Harry Potter did it.

>>>

Caught the Dirty Dozen again. Always guess the wrong cast members deaths!

Finally saw Thor The Dark World. On the plus side, Thor and Kurse, Heimdall, Frigga, Sif and Volstagg. On the negative side: forced humor, weak lead villain, Jane (hope Portman is only signed for 2 films) and Loki. Still, I look forward to Thor: Ragnarok. It has to be better than the first two.
