Quantum of Solace- Opens with a short but thrilling car chase, followed by a second wonderfully correagraphed foot chase in Sienna, Italy, a boat chase and later a plane chase!! :):) A most excellent world-trotting Bond outting.

It was surprising how good this movie was. Started watching with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised.

I did not realize in the original movie that Malificient was a fairy, although I remember faires. There has been some comment online about her Satanic horns. Anyone know if fairy mythology includes horns or these types of horns? In the original, I thought Malificient just chose to wear an evil horny wrap. ;)

Revealing is that half the critics disliked this movie at Rotten Tomatoes while 75% of the audience liked it. Why you can't trust critics, unless you happen to find one who aligns with your tastes.i remember years ago, I hardly ever agreed with Gene Shallot at NBC.

I caught both Guardians of the Galaxy and Edge of Tomorrow on a plane. Both were quite enjoyable!

I'm not familiar enough with the comics to make any comparisons there, but it was a fun ride with a cheesy good soundtrack.

Edge was enjoyable for seeing Tom Cruise get flung around like a rag doll over and over and over again. I thought it would be too similar to Oblivion but it worked out ok.

I will see this. The most enjoyable story with this theme I can think was the Star Trek NG where they are stuck in a time loop and are destroyed multiple times trying to figure a way out. I wonder who was the first to create this idea in a story?

Just bought my 5 DVD Extended Edition of The Hobbit II: The desolation of Smaug.
I saw the original theatrical release last year (twice).

Will be watching it in December:
Hobbit I EE on day 1, Hobbit II EE on day 2, Hobbit III in the theatre on day 3 and for day 4, 5 and 6 TLOTR EEs.

Will be fun!

Edge of Tomorrow (2104)- Enjoyable, interesting scifi story progression and humorous. :)

A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014)- Slapstick stupid, toilet humor, Seth Mcfarline movie, like listening to Brian Griffin for 2 hrs.

It's Sat morning and I'm in my PJ's watching "Call me Mrs. Miracle" It's a Christmas movie. it's snowing out so I'll be inside today/tonight watching Christmas movies.

And from the future! (See bold).

I actively dislike Family Guy, but still found Ted funny. How did West compare to Ted?

Speaking of juvenile, I watched Bad Grandpa last week on Netflix. A Jackass movie with an actual storyline. Fun if you're in the right mood for it.

I'm not a big fan of Ted, but it was better than West. AMWTDITW was slapstick more along the lines of Blazing Saddles which I am not a fan of either, although I loved Young Frankenstein (both by Mel Brooks). I'm sure it has a lot to do with personal taste because I can love slapstick, like Three Stooges (the original), Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber. :)

Went to see Birdman yesterday. Oh my god what a terrible, horrendous movie. I went to see it because of the good reviews and people were saying Michael Keaton was a front runner for best actor......just no.

The soundtrack to the film had this persistent drums and percussion line which didn't FIT in with the mood of the movie. Michael Keaton screaming all the time at people is not acting. Terribly overacted, and he was the worst part. I can scream at everyone I talk to also; doesn't make me a good actor. Edward Norton's character was the most unrealistic portrayal of anyone I've ever seen. The only good part was Emma Stone and her performance was medicore at best. My friend who told watched it, told me the ending, and it was even more ridiculous than the first part of the movie.

I tend to like these movies as well. The plot was vaguely similar to Black Swan (which I enjoyed). I fell asleep during the first 15 minutes and then left an hour in to the movie. The last time I left in the middle of a film was Iron Man 2 and that was worlds better than birdman. Definitely the worst movie I've ever seen.

Actually, I must say that I quite like this when I first saw it - oh, quite some time ago - and yes, (yelp) - I have just noticed the date when it was made.

Its been many years since I've viewed it as well.

By the way, have any of you ever seen a wonderful old classic called 'The Life And Death of Colonel Blimp'? I am of a mind to order it, and watch it again - it was really excellent.

This is one I've not heard of before.

Our mutual friend would love it (if he has not already seen it - I'd imagine that he has); more to the point, I think you would love it also. It is a terrific story, beautifully told, and exquisitely filmed; intelligent, thoughtful, and subtle - understated, tolerant and bitter sweet, too. An absolute triumph - political, cultural, artistic, and cinematic - to have been made when it was made.

...

Viy 2014. Volkodav this was not. I appreciated the moody intro and the use of Gogol's story as source material, but Jason Flemyng in a straight role (no make up) could not save this one. I will continue to seek out Russian fantasy and monster horror films as I love their mythology and they do some specular things visually.

Dark Waters - really hoping this is not another bootleg parading as official from Amazon, but the vaguely pixelated transfer is making this very hard to watch. Oh well.

The last movie I watched was Hamlet 2. I'm sure someone recommended it.

Having been to Tucson, I was surprised that nothing they show was correct, except maybe that once you get out, you are no longer in Tucson.

It wasn't "crazy, laugh out loud" funny, but it was humorous, and in general, fun to watch.

What movie have you seen and more importantly was it any good? :)

Watched Shutter Island, a psychological thriller. It just did not click for me. Without giving the story away, it took a turn I did not expect, which is not necessarily bad, but the execution was below my expectations.

On the other hand we just finished up the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the umpteenth time. You don't see epics like this very often. :)

If you ever wondered how they made 6' tall actors hobbit size, besides using short doubles for long shots, this is another method- forced perspective.

I watched Shutter Island a while back and then watched it again, on the second time around I picked up on things like smoke going backwards into cigarettes, somebody picking up a glass that is not there etc, all little things that tell you things are not what they seem.

Interesting! I did not notice those things. :)

Watched "Fading Gigolo". Amazing movie a la Woddy Allen. It's a must if you love movies as an artform.
Woody looks really old in it though. Will be a sad day when he dies :(

As a fellow Woody devotee, I completely agree. I watched Annie Hall this weekend, and I will truly miss him when he goes. Hopefully not for quite a long while.
