The Saint (1997)- Atmospheric romantic adventure. I've not seen many Val Kilmer movies, but he's good and this is memorable. :)

Just watched Kingsmen - not great. I don't know why I can't find slapstick humour funny anymore. It just felt so tired.

I wonder how this compares to another spy movie, Eye of the Needle starring Donald Sutherland which I remember as being excellent? :)
Haven't seen The Trouble With Spies, but Eye of the Needle kicks ass!

Hard Boiled (1992) I can see why people went nuts over this, but the genre is not my cup. That said, the actor I watched it for (who also was the stunt coordinator) was fantastic. And Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung were good too. So, it's very good, but ultimately not for me.

Speaking of eggs, you could also watch What's Up Tiger Lilly (1966). It's silly but I laugh out loud on occasion.. :)

A low-rent Japanese spy flick gets a kitschy rewrite from Woody Allen. With hilarious new dubbed dialogue, the revamped movie follows the efforts of secret agent Phil Moskowitz (Tatsuya Mihashi) to uncover the world's best egg salad recipe. Aiding him in his important culinary mission are gorgeous
Suki Yaki (Akiko Wakabayashi) and her sister Teri Yaki (Mie Hana). But Moskowitz will have to watch out -- crime boss Wing Fat (Susumu Kurobe) is also on the mayonnaise-and-dill drenched trail.

I have seen Taken 3, and to be honest, they need to stop in making sequels after sequels, after sequels.

The second movie was kinda poor, this third just a bit of waste of time.

Paddington Bear (2014)- My arm was twisted. Peruvian bear with an English accent and well mannered when not creating calamities. Too cute... That's a criticism. Was rooting for the taxidermist, lol. But I liked the Upstairs Downstairs/Fish Called Wanda street. :p

Paddington is easily the best movie I've seen so far this year - - it's a new classic that richly deserves it's 98% rating on RottenTomatoes.

JuST curious, no idea how RT works, but how can it get 98% when the avg. review score is 7.9?

Haven't seen it but totally admired the book(s -?) as a kid. Probably will wait till I can watch it with my young cousin.

You're right - - I probably shouldn't quote them, since I don't believe in them (Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Warner Bros. and has a labyrinthine protocol for converting reviews into commodifiable scores).

When I went to see it, the youngest person in the audience was maybe 45.

I acknowledge it's kid friendly and may illicit fond childhood memories if read as a child. :)

I liked seeing Lord Crawly in a dress. Not sure why The Explorer's daughter would be looking out for cute illegal bears entering the country to stuff cause she holds a grudge against (I presume) deceased Daddy who loved her but lost his job decades ago? She needs some psychotherapy. :)

Yes, What's Up Tiger Lily and What's New Pussycat were both pretty crazy and occasionally funny.

Watched Man Pride and Vengeance last night. Still holds up as a beautiful, quasi-spaghetti western take on Carmen.

After that, I made it through Heaven and Hell. Yes, the Chinese have a lot of Hells (one of which was the teeny bopper take on Heaven early on). Once the Venoms Mob showed up, it was kind like fighting your way through a Bosch painting.

And this morning, The Eye 2. Interesting take on ghosts, karma and the like from a Buddhist standpoint. A couple of creepy moments, but like most modern horror, not very scary.

Sadly, I crashed during Ode to Gallantry. I think it was as much the heat / allergies as it was the film itself. I'll try again somewhere down the line.

I strongly disagree that Paddington is only suitable for children. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work for you, but I saw it with a group of people from 45 - 80 and it was loved by all.

Did not mean to imply adults can't enjoy this, just not me. No worries, we all can't like the same stuff. :)

Starship Troopers (1997)
Setting aside the fact that Casper Van Dien is acting challenged, this movie is Paul Verhoeven's masterpiece. While having incredible visuals, its sets a high bar for not taking itself seriously and a low bar for dramatic acting which blends nicely with the general tongue in cheek tone of the story. It features the baddest-ass arachnids shown on screen that I can remember.

Citizens Are Doing Their Part with a good old fashioned bug stomp!
Strangely enough in a demo, the military scientist (Neil Patrick Harris) shows how to put down an arachnid with a short burst of fire, but in actual combat, it seemed to require 4 soldiers unloading their clips to put one down. :)

Trivia: The Badlands, Wyoming stood in for Klendathu, the bug planet. (Link)

Crazy is a good desrciption actually. Not a huge fan of Woody in Pussycat but I kinda dig the Sellers, O'Toole and Romy Schneider scenes. Not sure who thought it would be extremely entertaining but you can skip the entire last twenty minutes or so with these kind of genre/era flics in general, it's not even funny. 'Ruined' (as in I prefer not to watch it) the ending of the otherwise awesome Pink Panther as well for me. Everybody chicken running from A to B to A to C to B to... yawn.

Oh, I don't mind watching children's flics at all (but I'm nowhere near 45 either :p). I love most of the Ghibli's, especially Kiki, Porco Rosso or Totoro for example. But I fear my young cousin hasn't had the pleasure of experiencing Paddington at all - so that could be a good opportunity! Kinda feel bad for those 7yo who know Star Wars much better than Paddington or The Little Vampire. Gettin' old myself I guess... :D

Wow! I haven't heard anyone mention The Little Vampire in ages - - that is a highly underrated kid's classic!
