As part of TCM's Summer of Darkness series of Friday Films Noir, I'm watching, previously recorded, L.A. Confidential (1997).

Crazy is a good desrciption actually. Not a huge fan of Woody in Pussycat but I kinda dig the Sellers, O'Toole and Romy Schneider scenes. Not sure who thought it would be extremely entertaining but you can skip the entire last twenty minutes or so with these kind of genre/era flics in general, it's not even funny. 'Ruined' (as in I prefer not to watch it) the ending of the otherwise awesome Pink Panther as well for me. Everybody chicken running from A to B to A to C to B to... yawn.

Oh come on, in the original Pink Panther, there was the ...
(It's called slap stick.) :) ...costume party, the sneaking around to get into a wall safe, the missing loot, Peter Sellers in his knight armor, holding the roman candle thinking it's a candle, the box of fireworks is set off, general mayhem, then one of the funniest scenes was an old man sitting in the village square watching as cars tear by driven by gorillas and characters wearing assorted costumes in different directions chasing each other,. trying to find their way out of town; And then he calmly watches 2 guys in a zebra suit go running by. First time I saw that I laughed out loud. :) Afterwards, Peter Seller is set up by his wife and convicted of being the Pink Panther and ends up bragging about it. You can't miss that. :p

The Pink Panther was directed by Blake Edwards who also directed Ten, a wonderful Dudley Moore comedy.

i like how you told me the complete ending as if i had really switched off before. :D maybe i remember it worse than it was "...Pussycat" had definitely a worse slapstick ending. There must be a word for that kind of action though..and it's not that is absolutely terrible per se but that literally goes on for ten minutes or so, not my thing.

Lol. You got to remember the entire movie was built around klutzy Inspector Jacques Clouseau's cluelessness, plus his and other actor's (David Niven, Robert Wagner) slapstick/visual gags. The ending has to be a climax of more of the same. :D

Wow! I haven't heard anyone mention The Little Vampire in ages - - that is a highly underrated kid's classic!

I guess you meant the TV series, like I did. Just saw on IMDB that there was a movie from ~2000, not keen on watching that but the series I'd re-visit some time. Great show and very atmospheric, only 1 review on IMDB though

Gert Fröbe was definitely haunting my dreams back in the day.

I remember how all the kids were mesmerized when sitting together watching an episode! And how my buddy and I would dig a really deep hole next to the tree in the garden late evening to hide ourselves and be vampires and that his parents weren't nearly as pleased with the final result... :D

Oops - - no. I was indeed referring to the 2000 film.

Ok, don't know it. The books are awesome (guess it's an adaption as the series was), I highly recommend those for a gift or so.

Think there are about 12 books and as many episodes of the series. Give it a try if you want, just saw there are some or maybe all on youtube also in English. It's from '85 but aged well imo, but there are thick nostalgic glasses on my nose so yea..

So the movie is great? Don't think I'll give it a try nonetheless since it could hurt those precious memories.. ;)

After at least a decade and several attempts, I finally made it through the Brave Archer series.

It's confusing as heck and many of the actors play different characters in each of the four films. Brave Archer 2 was unintentionally funny (I suppose the Chinese dub will make it somewhat less goofy), while 1 and 4 were snoozers. Sure nice to see a Princess Leia like character in 2 and 3; she was feisty, super smart and knew her way around the Beggar Clan's kung fu.

So where does that leave Brave Archer 3? That one is the best of the quartet, quite good actually. It could stand on its own as a slightly campy early 80s Wuxia. I'll be picking up 2 and 3 digitally whenever Celestial releases them on iTunes.

I don't remember it. How was it as compared to something like The Day The Earth Stood Still or Forbidden Planet?

Also to make that image an attachment, did you first download it to your computer?

I'm not sure. I was too tired to finish it last night and made it about halfway through. I'll try to finish it maybe tonight or tomorrow.

As for the attachment, yes, I go to imdb.com, grab a screenshot of the poster art which gets saved to my desktop. Then I drag it into the post and select the option for full size image and that's it. :)

Just a heads up for those who have already read the book "The Martian," it will be in theaters this November. If you haven't read the book, do so before watching the trailer or the movie.

Looking forward to the movie. :)

Oh wow! I had no idea a film was being made. I read the book last month and really enjoyed it.

I finished watching it a short while ago. Compared to the two films you mentioned, I'd say Kronos was about on par with them, maybe a little less good. But it was fun to watch regardless, if you like that sort of movie, such as I do.

Thanks for the heads up! The book has been recommended to me by various folks and I now have a timeline to read it by!

Last night I caught I, Origins on cable. Interesting movie, if a bit predictable.

Flag of Iron (again): the villain was so delightfully smug. The deceptions were fun, but Life Gamble has this one beat in the betray everyone department. And the Flag fu was used to much more poignant effect in Life Gamble too.

Last night I watched the documentary, The Nightmare, about sleep paralysis. I've had this quite a few times throughout my life and it sucks. Fortunately I do not get it every night like some in the documentary as it seems to have made them crazy! But scary nonetheless.

That sounds interesting. Where did you go to view it? HBO, Netflix...?

In the spectrum of 50s SciFi, I've always considered Forbidden Planet and War of the Worlds to be a cut above. I remember the premise of Day the Earth Stood Still, but don't remember how much I liked it. The remake did not make much of an impression on me.

Rented it on AppleTV. It might not be interesting to those who have never had sleep paralysis, but if you have, it's interesting. I just believe that when I'm stuck between the dream state and reality, it just screws with you. They just jumble together and make things scary. Again, I've had it happen probably ten times throughout my life that I can remember, so it's not every night or anything. As you'll see in the movie, some believe more sinister things, but I think it may be more simple than that. ;) But watchers can make up their own mind. No matter what though, when I get them, it still sucks.

I could see how it might make you question reality.

Btw, can you tell me what your avatar is? I like it, it's colorful, Reminding me of abstract art.

I've had it happen to me a handful of times during my life and it was a very weird feeling. Thankfully, it's very rare for me.
