Scary stuff.

The last time it happened to me I "woke up" with a creature from True Blood on top of me and it disappeared as soon as I recognized it from TV the night before.

You know, it's pretty crazy how many people I've talked to over the years have the same "type" of story to their sleep paralysis episodes just with different "monsters". The whole phenomena is strange. But for those who have had them, it can be very frightening. I remember there have been times that I truly thought I might be dying! It feels like that when it first hits me.

Saw San Andreas yesterday with my family. A good movie, but a bit predictable. We all really enjoyed it.
Yup, me too last week. Story is weak but the action scenes were spectacular. I lived in LA and visited SF multiple times. Most realistic special effects for a disaster movie. Way better than Deep Impact or 2012.

I just finished Jurassic World. I still say the original from 1993 is still my favorite maybe because I was blown away much easier at age 12. But I really did enjoy the action scenes. Maybe tied for Jurassic Park III as my 2nd fav of the series. Didn't like Lost World.

I saw five summer movies this year and liked them all. FF7, Avengers 2, Mad Max, San Andreas, and Jurassic 4. Each one was kinda weak when it came to story but each one was highly entertaining enough. Way better than summer of last year.

Watching Life 2.0 on Netflix. It's interesting to say the least...online love and failed marriages.

Just got done watching "Wild" with Reese Witherspoon.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2305051/

It is a very good movie, and it is one that I will revisit. I give it an 8/10.

I just saw the rental with all the special features (many of them). It was a great movie and definitely an 8/10, maybe 9/10. The fact that it was a true story and not overly done was the best thing. At the same time it didn't try to be too internal like "Cast Away" so it moves pretty fast for the type of movie it is with mostly one character.

Just saw Jurassic World, and I have to say... meh.

It wasn't a terrible movie... it certainly had some exciting moments... but it lacked the spark of the first one, which it was clearly trying to emulate. It didn't help that the Dinosaurs looked so fake in closeups (CGI < Animatronics). Also I think they went a bit overboard with the references to the original. I liked the first few ones, but OMG they just kept throwing them in!

I did like that they brought back one of the minor characters, giving this person traits which were mentioned in the novel but left out of the movie. They also recycled several scenes from said novel.

Oh, and those plot twists towards the end...

Agreed.

I enjoyed Chris Pratt's comic hero last summer in Guardians of the Galaxy, but unfortunately you can see just how shallow his talent is when he plays it straight here. But the real problem with Jurassic World is the screenplay, or lack thereof. This movie is all over the place, racing from one half-baked idea to the next. Of course, that's probably why it's doing well at the box office - - there's a disturbingly large number of movie ticket buyers who believe that a good story distracts from their enjoyment of the FX and action. On the plus side, it seemed to be going over gangbusters with the audience members under 8 years old.

I love a good B-movie, and Jurassic World is definitely a B-movie, just not a good one. Too bad, because the whole theme park design was awesome - - if only they'd spent a nickel on a writer.

I am so dissapointed by these comments! Was Spielberg involved in this movie in any capacity? That (him missing) might explain a weak script.

Regarding APlotdevice's comment, just watched the original Jurassic Park and have always a bit irritated how they told only a small part of the book because I think they felt the need for an adequate setup and the description of how Dino's were made, not wanting a four hour movie, while I simultaneously acknowledge what a good movie it is. :)

And I acknowledge the missing parts of the book have slowly found their way onto the big screen. Jurassic Park II- Girl and Compies, which was referenced on the mainland? Jurassic Park III- Aviary and trip down river. JP3 is pretty outstanding, minimal setup, right into some great action. :D

As long as it's full of dinosaur mayhem, I don't care about the lines in the screenplay. It's not Orson Welles; it's a high-tech monster movie.

A decent story and script always makes a movie better. There has to be a believable, sound reason for the mayhem, not drenched in stupidity. :p

In the original story all of the dino enclosures were supposed to be seperated by berms/walls (I seem to remember) to keep the dino groups separated. So as soon as I realized these enclosures were based on electric fence technology, I know they were in trouble. Think about it, they'd need HUGE generators running 24/7, never failing, always supplied with fuel on a remote island, lol.

But the problem is that the first movie was so well written and directed. It was a masterpiece. And the way this movie was made, it just keeps reminding you that you could be watching the much better original.

So... you loved Jurassic World? Can you post your review?

This afternoon it's a neo-noir as part of TCM's Summer of Darkness series.

Night Moves (1975)
Former football player and present private detective Harry Moseby gets hired on to what seems a standard missing person case, as an aging Hollywood actress whose only major roles came thanks to being married to a studio mogul wants Moseby to find and return her stepdaughter. Harry travels to Florida to find her, but he begins to see a connection with the runaway girl, the world of Hollywood stuntmen, and a suspicious mechanic when an unsolved murder comes to light.

Isn't Horror Express the one with Telly Savalas as some crazed Cossack? That is a classic.

Yes, that's the one. Alberto de Mendoza's Rasputineque priest was fun too.

Goodies!!

Have to get that Wickerman flic - read good things about it.

Wickerman is super creepy. Christopher was very unsettling in that. I won't say boo about it so you can hopefully be surprised.

RIP, I never realized how old he was...

Yes, he lived a long, full and exciting life. Entertained so many, many people. RIP indeed.
