9 (2009)- Animated flick about evil machines vs good dolls in a post apocalyptic world. It was good if you don't think too much about the premise after its explained to the viewer.. ;)

How old are they? I find older stuff like this doesn't always translate well to the younger generation.
11 and 13. I agree, older movies can be pretty hit or miss. In this case, since it's supposed to be the middle ages, there isn't very much that requires context to be funny. The black night gets his arm cuts off and tries to deny it "it's merely a flesh-wound". Funny.

I recently rewatched 4sight: The Changing Face of Four, which is a documentary about Channel 4's graphic identity. It's a compilation of video clips with well-researched, humorous narration.

Avenging Eagle (1978) stands out as an excellent, character driven revenge kung fu film, tightly focused upon the two central characters and their complex relationship with each other and the bad guys. Surprises throughout and some superb 3 section staff and knife fu. I've heard a lot about Ti Lung as one of the best actors / martial artists employed by Shaw Brothers and this film proves he is every bit that good. This is an earlier directorial effort by Human Lanterns helmer Sun Chung and it was just amazing on every level; especially good for the characterization. I can see why the Weinsteins were toying around with remaking this, but I doubt they could ever come close. I've been enjoying the vast majority of Shaw Brothers / Kung fu films for their characterization and costume / set designs and the fight choreography, and the deeper I go, the more I find excellent characters and stories like this one. Added bonus, the spaghetti western vibe and set design was pretty spectacular too.

I saw a commercial last night for the upcoming reboot of Vacation. Really?!? That movie is a classic. I'm not sure I like that they are redoing it. o_O

That movie, is like Airplane for me, so many good lines and scenes that are quoted a lot and everyone "usually" knows what you are referencing!!!

MP&THG is a classic and so dang funny. It's one of those movies, like Airplane! that is full of clever writing and silly jokes. And extremely quotable.

"Surely you're not serious?" "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." mwahhahahhaha.
"What...is your favorite color?" "Blue. No, red! WAHHHHHHHhhhhh......" Still makes me laugh.

What can you make out of this......Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl......hahahaha Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.........Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

IIIIIIIII ammmm the black knight!

I finally introduced my boys to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They are on their second viewing this weekend, so I'm going to assume they like it.

Total win!

My dad took me see that theatrically when I was very little. Something clicked in my still forming brain, and it was not just squires bashing coconuts together as they pretended to trot.

"Look you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left!" is a line I quote with alarming frequency, amongst many others.

Mad Max (2015) - Verdict: The movie is insane... in a good way. The costume and vehicle designs are spot-on. The action was great. Coolness factor was great. The acting is okay. The story is okay. The really surprising thing about the movie is the direction. I expected it to be more like Transformers or Armageddon*, where every shot has to be constantly moving (like a kid's sugar-laden snack commercial) and where the audience is assumed to have ADHD. Thankfully, we're not subjected to that here, even when the action is at its most intense. Sure, there are very quick shots and fast zooms but they fit very well and added to the feel.
Anyway, this movie is very entertaining. Score: 7.25/10
*While writing this I looked up the director for Armageddon... LOL it's also Michael Bay? :D Same as Transformers... LOL

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - Verdict: Not as funny as the first one but still a very charming and enjoyable movie with some pretty funny moments. Score: 7.1/10

Saw Mad Max: Fury Road and Jurassic World.

Mad Max: Fury Road is a good movie, but I couldn't "see" Max Rockatansky in the character that Tom Hardy played.
Without Mel Gibson, Mad Max: Fury Road was a great post-apocalyptic movie, but not a Mad Max post-apocalyptic movie.
I still liked the movie.

Loved Jurassic World, the music and the JP Jeep Wrangler gave it a little nostalgic feel, although I would have loved some cameo's from Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

...maybe I'm getting old and I don't like the trend of Hollywood remaking, re-imaging or continuing with characters and movies that I grew up with.

Well, at least they did this in the sense of a sequel than just a blatant reboot.

... Human Lanterns ...

Saw it yesterday and totally agree! Great style!! Enjoyed it much more than Cantonten.. bit all over the place (Lanterns) but very entertaining. Sets and costumes were amazing, choreography was fun, I love the flying around stuff :D

Will have to find a way to get those Shaw Bros flics, not that easy unfortunately! Not exactly my idea to buy a region A player..
