We saw it on Friday (mid-afternoons, even in the summer, are a good time to avoid major crowds).

It's pretty amazing, easily in the Top <n> Pixar movies. Love the design, characters, the message, the terrific cast - and it works on a number of different levels: kids, adult humor, even some pretty "heady" stuff. Plenty of amazingly emotional moments in it too. Our little one who's 7yrs/old loved it too and it's probably a must have when it's available on home video.

FYI, we went with the 2D, the 3D is probably pretty amazing in quite a few scenes, but I just find a touch distracting (and there's so much to take in with the story).

9.2-9.3/10

Thanks for the review. I'm really wondering how my 10 year old is going to react to the movie. He's your typical boy, but does have a sensitive side at times.

Am I the only one who thinks of Herman's Head when Inside Out is mentioned?

Sorry, never heard of it.

Going to see Inside Out with the family tonight. I've heard nothing but positive reviews so far.

saw it on friday with family.
everyone loved it (including teen age boy).

agree it is one of the best pixars.
funny, bittersweet, sophisticated.

the short 'lava' is easily the worst pixar ever produced, and horrible even by non-pixar standards

Just be ready with a response to the question, "Dad, are you crying?"

Some possible answers:

"I got some seasoned popcorn salt in my eye"
"Can't a grown man cry??" (Run to bathroom after you say this...)

Alternate solution:

Go to 3D showing, the glasses will hide your tears ...

:D

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus on the boards I visit - I think the character design was interesting, certainly some beautiful design work, terrific voices/singing, but just WAY too long, it just sort of repeated itself over-and-over-and ... I think a sub 2 minute edit would be pretty charming.

agree on the 3d glasses hideout :D
otherwise the 3d version is not worth it IMO

and personally i thought Lava was so bad to be unfixable (i usually love those shorts), but a 1 minute cut at least would at least end quickly. :)

Yeah, I've heard that you should bring your Kleenex box with you when you see it. No worries though, tears are no big deal in our house. We're in touch with our feelings. :p

Sadly, Inside Out was the first original Pixar movie that I thoroughly disliked. Perhaps after making so many cash-in sequels in recent years (Inside Out is only Pixar's second original film since 2009), they have forgotten how to tell a great story like they used to.

Having seen all the Pixar original features in first release, I feel a great sadness at their first real failure. :(

Wow, really? I mean, it _is_ subjective, but you see a consensus like this, and it's hard to understand seeing it as an utter and complete failure on all levels (that I would equate to an F)

Inside Out really didn't work for me.

That's my loss - - I have seen every original Pixar feature in first run - - so I was surprised as anyone at my review (except perhaps for the four "rotten" reviewers so far).

Fortunately, it seems to be working fine for the "consensus" as you say, and I am happy for Pixar to hear that.

I guess a better choice might have been the vast majority :D Yeah, that's a bummer, maybe next time - or do a home Pixar-a-thon with Toy Story 1,2 and 3 :)

Just got back from Inside Out with the family and we enjoyed it. I'm not blown away and maybe that's because I was expecting so much due to the plethora of over the top praise for it. I did think it was good and liked how they handled such a complex human topic.

I just watched "Champs" last night on Netflix. I usually do something else while watching movies like this and just listen but this one made me watch.

Interesting. For a long time it seemed Pixar was incapable of failure until... Cars series, then Up, ick. :)

Really, I loved Cars. Maybe it's because I have boys and they were totally into all of the Cars movies. Good memories for me there.

I wanted better racing action and less personal development (don't ask me to explain ;)). Keep in mind I loved the Toy Story series, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles, which had personal development but were story driven features more than getting locked up in a town to discover yourself. It was not what I wanted in a Pixar animated feature. :)

You don't have to be a boy to like cars I loved cars and am not a boy anymore

I apologize if my post offended. I wasn't making a statement about gender, but merely pointing out that my children, who are boys, loved those movies and therefore I have fond memories of us watching them together over and over. Those experiences have endeared that movie series to me and thus it holds a special place in my heart.

I'm not offended at all.

Okay, great. Sorry, without further explanation or context I wasn't clear on what you were saying. Still not sure I know exactly, but I'm relieved to know you aren't upset.

I'm 38 and LOVE the cars movies, they're not just for boys they're just fun.
