I wanted better racing action and less personal development (don't ask me to explain ;)). Keep in mind I loved the Toy Story series, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles, which had personal development but were story driven features more than getting locked up in a town to discover yourself. It was not what I wanted in a Pixar animated feature. :)

imho Cars weak point was the story. If you had seen "Doc Hollywood" before it simply felt absolutly predictable.
Big shot city guy stranded in rural small town. Knew where this thing was going 10 minutes in.

Monsters Inc, Toy Story,Funding Nemo and the incredibles were completly original stories and thus kept you more engaged.

I still remember watching Monsters Inc. in the cinema. it was a "surprise" preview where you weren't told the movie beforehand. Absolutly fantastic. Not only was the animation mind blowing (the purple fur !) but it was also seriously funny and a great original story.

Cars had great character design but i always felt that apart of that lacking. Not a bad movie but not a masterpiece like finding nemo, monsters inc, toy story

^^ = masterpieces of story telling perfection. :)

Interesting. For a long time it seemed Pixar was incapable of failure until... Cars series, then Up, ick. :)

UP, in my opinion, was one of the best Pixar movies ever. The silent montage sequence is a thing of brilliance. I feel the same with Wall•E as well. The first third is brilliant filmmaking and the rest is excellent. Finding Nemo, The Incredibles... the list is impressive.

As you can tell, I'm a huge Pixar fan for most of the same reasons as everyone else. I'm a little hesitant about Inside Out but I'll probably catch a matinee. I'm typically a fan of their shorts as well so it's a little disappointing to hear about Lava. I'll hope for the best though. I adored Birds on a Wire.

Ditto.

I love Up so much. So did Steve Jobs.

Great minds think alike.

Then you'd better come back and tell us how much you loved "inside out" because its great. Lava wasn't as bad as everyone is saying, its cute and bittersweet. Yes its two mountains falling in love but whatever!

The first time I saw TFE I thought it was kind of stupid, but since then, it's grown on me. :) Actually Bruce still looked young-ish in 1997.

Time is cruel.

Growing up, I was a big fan of Moonlighting. I'd say that he looks better now than he did in The Fifth Element. Although it was clear he was supposed to be washed up.

I took the kids to see Inside Out last week and we all enjoyed it. They actually loved the short, but I wasn't a huge fan of it, mostly because of the song.

I also wasn't a fan of Lava - the song seems to be a love it or hate it thing. Mrs. bobob loved it, while I hated it.

(Not to mention the cultural appropriation and the pedophile old man volcano lusting after the little girl volcano.)

Mad Max (2015) - Verdict: The movie is insane... in a good way. The costume and vehicle designs are spot-on. The action was great. Coolness factor was great. The acting is okay. The story is okay. The really surprising thing about the movie is the direction. I expected it to be more like Transformers or Armageddon*, where every shot has to be constantly moving (like a kid's sugar-laden snack commercial) and where the audience is assumed to have ADHD. Thankfully, we're not subjected to that here, even when the action is at its most intense. Sure, there are very quick shots and fast zooms but they fit very well and added to the feel.
Anyway, this movie is very entertaining. Score: 7.25/10
*While writing this I looked up the director for Armageddon... LOL it's also Michael Bay? :D Same as Transformers... LOL

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - Verdict: Not as funny as the first one but still a very charming and enjoyable movie with some pretty funny moments. Score: 7.1/10

Caught A Walk Among the Tombstones on HBO last night. Enjoyed it. A darker, slower and more serious take on a similar theme as Liam Neeson's Taken and Non-Stop type characters.

I'm currently watching the 1995 Bruce Willis movie 12 Monkeys. It is not as as good as the new TV series, but it isn't bad either.

I felt the original movie was better than the new series. I watched most of season 1 and dropped off being a little bored with it.

12 Monkeys the original movie is one of my five star movies, just all around excellence which makes it hard to understand why they would feel the need to turn it into a TV series. I guess there's a fair amount of that going on with Fargo as well. I watched most of that, but it didn't grip me as the movie did.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)

A botched card game in London triggers four friends, thugs, weed-growers, hard gangsters, loan sharks and debt collectors to collide with each other in a series of unexpected events, all for the sake of weed, cash and two antique shotguns.
