One of the last favorite movies my gf saw. I didn't expect her to like it but we ended up watching it again the very next day yesterday! Maverick has been one of my favorites since I saw it in the theater. It is one of those feel good comedies with infinite replay value like Let It Ride and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I just love the witty dialogue and the many twists. It holds up after so many viewings. Probably my favorite movie of the 1990's since I've seen it the most times over The Shawshank Redemption which is another favorite but I love Maverick probably longer. TSR is better but Maverick is my favorite as better quality and favorites isn't the same thing.

RIP to the og Maverick, James Garner.

"Decrepit old has been? Couldn't sneak up at a corpse?”

You might never guess it from the lousy reviews it's getting, but Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalpyse is a fantastic horror comedy! The three lead characters are played with authentic heart and the story supports them by playing it consistently straight underneath the raunchy comedy and over the top horror. This little b-movie is nothing less than a future cult classic, sure to be adored for decades to come. If you're a low comedy fan, be sure not to miss it in first run!

A+

I caught a couple of oldie but goodies on cable tonight.

Harry and the Hendersons - my teenage boys actually liked this one meaning that it has aged well.

So I Married an Axe Murderer - still really funny, but not holding up quite as well.

My wife wanted to watch a horror film so we had Devil's Due on in the background while handing out candy. That was miserable. Super predictable.

Could've been worse. A friend and his wife wanted me to recommend a good scary movie for them to watch this Halloween.

"Do you mind if it's subtitled?"

"I don't care, as long as it's scary."

"Audition all the way then. You'll love it."

I bet it'll be a month before they speak to me again.

Two nights ago I watched the original Ocean's 11. Sinatra, Martin, Jr, etc. The first Rat Pack movie I've seen, and I'm in no hurry to see more. Really not expecting much, but pleasantly surprised that it was a semi-decent buddy-heist film. There's no reason to care about any of the characters except maybe the one who dies, and certainly there's no development for any of them.

Also recently watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Stellar cast, and mostly playful storyline.

Hocus Pocus in honor of last night. :) Don't ask how they knew the snappy musical number or the purpose of the microphones, lol. It's not important! :D

HatH is a gem of a movie. I love the cast and the story. Oddly I don't have that in my library. I might have to remedy this. :D

What's Up Tiger Lily (1966) "Two Wongs don't make a right..." :p This purposely stupid redubbed take on the Japanese spy thriller Key of Keys, has Woody Allen and friends alter the English dialog and the story so it has nothing to do with the movie.

A lot of the humor is dated, but some of it is very funny. After months of wincing through some awful dubs in various martial arts films (Shaw Brothers and otherwise), this was a welcome breather.

The formula for the world's best egg salad is a common theme in spy films. It's been a while, but I remember it being very funny. :)
