It takes serious SOD (suspension of disbelief) to buy a story about mid-20th Century technology being able to go mano e mano with that! Yet it was watchable. :D

Shatter (1974) The other Hammer / Shaw Brothers co production and the only good element was Ti Lung, in spite of him being forced to channel Bruce Lee. Obviously Hammer did not get the memo of the variety of martial arts Ti was well versed in even then (Wing Chun, Giro Ryu Karate, some Hung Gar not to mention his weapons skills, all of these would only get better as his acting abilities grew too.) There's a reason why Ti Lung was frequently cast as kung fu masters and instructors even as early as 1972, the guy has the skills to back up that kind of character.

At any rate, Stuart Whitman's Shatter is a lame assassin whose latest hit was orchestrated to purposely frame him. Shatter is in Hong Kong to collect payment for the hit when he learns the truth. You would expect a master assassin to be able to take care of himself in a fight. Um, no. That's where Ti Lung comes in, constantly saving Shatter's drunken self. I knew this was bad going in, but...in hindsight I think David Chiang should have Ti Lung's role here (as his sly, charming and vicious little guys would have been a nice foil for Shatter) and Ti should have had Chiang's role in The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires. That's a little head cannon I'll have to imagine for myself.... but as far as Shatter goes, an interesting idea which stumbles in the execution.

Five Venoms (1978) so much fun. Some inventive character / story twists, entertaining comic booky characters and stupidly sweet acrobatics and traditional kung fu and the best performance of a 24 year old acting like a dying 60 something sifu ever. Never gets boring.

Deadpool was very good. I laughed out loud a few times. I didn't realize it was an X-men movie.

I initially wasn't interested in seeing this film but I'm glad I went.

Non-linear story telling, very sharp wit. A joke a minute pretty much. Thumbs up.

The Martian(2015). True Science Fiction adventure. I haven't read the book, but this was an entirely enjoyable movie.

Also finally got around to watching the JJ Abrams re-boot Star Trek (2009). I thought he did a much better job with Star Trek than Star Wars. This one was pretty good.

The 2009 Star Trek reboot was much better than any Star Trek movie before it... imo. :D

Saw Friedkin's The Guardian yesterday, felt like a solid b-movie. Premise was a bit silly but somewhat unique, I guess it failed a bit for me because it revealed too much too early, so wasn't really watching from the edge of my couch, so to speak. Still enjoyable for a viewing when in the right mood. Maybe nothing for "fresh" parents with a nanny though :D

There is this movie out on iTunes with Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman called The Secret in Their Eyes. Another bad Hollywood remake. I will highly recommend the original Argentinian movie which goes in English by the same name I think. Excellent movie. There is one of the best uninterrupted scenes in cinema around half way through the movie, which makes it even better the fact that it was shot in a football (soccer) stadium with a lot of people around.

Swift Sword (1980) much more entertaining and straight forward version of the Sword Stained with Royal Blood - which Chang Cheh would make under that title a year later. The only detraction from this version, the always meh Wang Yue. Nice to see Niu Niu and Kara Hui get some fighting in too.

Lady Assassin (1982) Utterly ridiculous nefarious intrigue at the Palace as the Fourth Prince schemes to take the throne away from the rightful heir, the Fourteenth Prince. Anthony Lau Wing is his usual mustache twirling self as the Fourth Prince, but it's Pai Piao as his flunky who is the real treat here. And when these two first meet, their fight all kinds of great fun in the right ways. The title character is fun too. As much as I love Sun Chung and Chang Cheh's work, it's nice to see the women in these two films get more to do than be foils or drama.

Just watched The Peacemaker again last night with Nicole Kidman and George Clooney. Gets better and better every time I watch it. Same with Real Genius, which is on right now.

I love Horror
The Thing (1982)
The Descent
Wolf Creek
The Cabin in the Woods
Splinter
Trollhunter
The Changeling
V/H/S
House of Wax
The Shining

I'm picky about my horror avoiding torture movies parading themselves as horror, (not a critique of your list), as I've not seen most of the Titles. Thumbs up for The Thing, The Shining, and The House of Wax I remember was 1950ish (although there was a remake which I did not see) and don't remember much about it other than real people under the wax.

Some good stuff on your list, assuming the original House of Wax. Splinter is fun, low budget, I thought when I first read your list, it said Slither (which is an _awesome_ scifi/horror flick).

The Cabin in the Woods is fantastic fun, though I imagine with the meta/inside references, it mostly plays well for horror aficionados.

Definitely not your typical superhero movie.

It _killed_ (*rimshot*) at the BO this weekend, $150M over the 4 day holiday, and opened to $282M worldwide. That's astounding for a Rated-R movie.
