I watched Star Trek: Into Darknes a few days ago. A good movie. Really liked the tributes to Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.
Not counting that the filmmakers kept on insisting that the film would have nothing to do with Khan or anything like that.

Last evening I watched Black Mass (2015). I thought it was pretty good too. I always enjoy the characters and acting of Johnny Depp.
The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.

Kevin Bacon is indeed in the movie, but it’s a fairly small role.

Everyone has a few small bills to pay at the end of the month. :D Bacon was a stitch in Beauty Shop. James Cromwell is another one always turning up somewhere. Thought he was great in The Queen as the irascible, politically incorrect Prince Philip.

Well I'm glad that never happened being (just!) over 30!
It's a good film, but like most things filmed in the 70's a bit strange (not including Star Wars of course!).

I don't remember much about it the first time. Which meant I either fell asleep or it wasn't very memorable!
I'll see how I get on tonight!

A Fish Called Wanda (1988)- outstanding comedy with an ensemble cast, a jewel robbery in London.

I like Knight and Day a light hearted tongue in cheek spy adventure. A Tom Cruise movie I like. :)

Film in the 70s and most of the 80s was inherently slow-paced. It built tension and was a bonus because script writing wasn't all that grand at the time. I had an incredibly tough time watching film of those decades despite having grown up in both. It's too slow for me and the intense build up for something often half-assed infuriates me. I've been spoiled by late 80s, 90s and 00s film.

Knight and Day wasn't a bad film by any means. It just came out at the worst time. Cameron Diaz made it more bearable for me. Of the spy films of 2010, I'm inclined to recommend Red, which has some dry wit thrown in for older folks, and Killers. Despite its low rating and the somewhat drawn acting of Kutcher, its pace is much better than Knight and Day. Additionally, and I may be wrong here as it's been six years, but I believe Killers is loosely based on an old novel from the bygone era of the cold war. Admittedly, I never read it but an older gentleman told me it was, which convinced me to see it. It's also a bit like Mr and Mrs. Smith. Decent action, very fast paced, comedic relief and the occasional dry wit.

I'm sure Mr and Mrs Smith like home destruction is a carpenter's wet-dream. On the topic of falling asleep during films, I've found most popular films to bore me to sleep. Inception has so far put me to sleep about a dozen times. It's incredibly boring. TTSS is wonderful but you need a fresh mind to watch it. Not only to understand the storyline but to appreciate the spoken word. A very boring film to most, The Good Shepard, had me at the edge of my seat when I finally plopped down to watch it in 2011.

If you want an interesting film, I'd recommend "The Counterfeiters." It's about a crack Jewish unit within a Nazi camp tasked with forging real money. English Pound notes, if I recall correctly. It's rather a beautiful film that isn't too depressing. On the note of WWII films, the most depressing I've ever watched was called "The Grey Zone."

Back to spy films, Red 2 was also good.

Red is a great film (with a great cast!).
Mr and Mrs Smith didn't really float my boat.
True Lies is another one I'd throw in there. The right mix of action and comedy.

True Lies is a fantastic film, even for its age! Body of Lies is also rather good.

Logan's Run - great score and I love the addition of the death ritual in the beginning. At least the movie let you live to 30; you had to submit to sleep at 21!!!! in the novel.

The Heroes (1980) Ti Lung's undercover Shaolin Temple agent pretends to serve the evil emperor and train Shaolin prisoners to rebel against the ruler. Thing is, the prisoners have no idea Ti is just acting. Oh, but the Emperor suspected it.

Director Wu Ma's homage to his mentor Chang Cheh and Shaw Brothers is terrific thanks to Ti and Chan Wai Man (who gets another great aging make up here, not to mention a swell end fight against Ti.) Like Wu's triad hit man drama The Handcuff, this is a great movie filled with intriguing fights and solid acting. Both deserve the restoration / HD treatment something fierce. And it is always nice to see Ti Lung perform Wing Chun (and CWM going to town with bladed weapons.)

My movie playlist on my TV goes like this -
Battle Royale (2000)
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Dumb And Dumber To (2014)
Deadpool (2016)
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
The Avengers (2012)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Didn't like THX 1138 (6.5/10) too much but I did like how George Lucas shot the film. So THX 1138 is Robert Duvall? Okay. Cool, it has nudity but I really didn't care for the story.

Haven't finished watching Battle Royale yet but from what I saw, pretty good. Might go finish it since I didn't have electricity in any of my outlets for nearly a week and had to charge my phones through a powerbank or relative's house nearby.

Eliminated Dumb And Dumber To on my phone because I wanted only films up until 2010. My 30 favorite films I looped over and over by age 30. Needed my Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Some Like It Hot, Easy A, and The Big Lebowski back. Put all my Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Back To The Future in another phone.

Looking forward more to Wonder Woman than the Justice League Part One. Fan of both Godzilla and King Kong, but not expecting too much from Skull Island. Just leave Kong alone. King Kong meets a Jurassic Park story. Will still watch it but don't expect too much like BvS.

Deadpool isn't that bad but I still wouldn't say I love it. I know that is his character but I can't stand Ryan Reynolds ever since Van Wilder. He's fun though. Love the line, "this is the only thing pulling out tonight." Waiting to download Captain America: Civil War from YIFY. Another month.
