Quality film.

We watched Notting Hill the other night. Very funny. I hadn't seen it since it was in theaters. Coincidentally, we watched Four Weddings and a Funeral last week. Good, but not too funny.

I rented Independence day 2 for my Dad. he didn't like it, he prefers the first one. I did like it thou but the first one is still better.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)- Love this con movie and have lusted after the featured villa since 88. Guest appearance by Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). :)

One of my all time favorites! So rewatchable, and we quote it all the time (it's hard to say "Oklahoma" without running around with my arms up :D )

Saw it on Broadway too, with John Lithgow in the Lawrence Jameson role.

Shaolin Temple (1976) - I think I've waxed on about how much I enjoy this one enough already but that feeling is still there. One of the most complete and satisfying Chang Cheh films and his best "epic".

When I was googling images for my post, I saw pics where I wondered if it was a play, a musical or both. Even though I respect John Lithgow, I'm sold on the original actors. :)

They're dancing!!! (long moan) Take me away from this place!! :)

I'm about to pop in a film I hope is half as funny as it was to me almost 20 years ago:

Mr. Vampire

UPDATE: Yes, it still has more than a few LOL moments. I needed this tonight. :)

Oh yeah, the movie is a 10, the musical was about a 7, and not due to it being a musical, I'd rate the MPatHG original movie and musical _very_ close. (Alright, we'll call it a draw ...)

Ghosts Galore (1983) - One of the truly funny goofy dark fantasy Shaw Brothers films, about two young fake Taoist priests who meet the real thing and subsequently get trained. Eventually this becomes yet another China vs. Japan Shaw Brothers film, but it's a magic war right down to the Opera vs. Kabuki demons.

Oh and Hwang Jang Lee as the evil Japanese wizard is just terrific. All kinds of funny. I think I'll definitely do a double bill of this and Mr. Vampire next weekend. I am just not in the mood for grim horrors right now.

Watched Tenderness of the Wolves over the week-end. Intense chiller about a serial killer during the German post-WWII era by Ulli Lommel. Rumors are the producing and also a small side-role playing R.W. Fassbinder was quite involved into directing as well. A lot of Fassbinder regulars are involved too - as for example the stunning lead Kurt Raab.

Although not a horror movie in its core it does have it's extremely chilling moments - but doesn't become gross or gory for a single sec. It is more about a character study and the immoral post war society - captured brilliantly in bizarre images. Amazing mixture of M - Eine Stadt such einen Mörder by Lang and Nosferatu - 9/10 :D
