First rewatch of this since seeing it opening night.

The only thing I noticed second time around was the music just doesn't quite feel right.

I felt the same way when I first saw it. It was just off. Nothing I could put my finger on.

We caught John Wick on the tube the other night. Was pleasantly surprised at how good a movie it was. Now I've got to see the second in the franchise.

Was it on the Syfy channel?

Just came from the movie theatre and saw the Ghost in the Shell. I like it a lot. Compelling story, but extremely awesome effects.

King Kong(1933)- I grew up loving this movie. Outstanding stop motion photography for 1933. Check out this video where they used rear projection along with stop motion and figured out a way to incorporate live actors. :)

In The Heat Of The Night (1967)- Powerful portrait of the 1960s racially sensitive South. ;)

Interesting:
Although the film was set in the fictional Mississippi town of Sparta (with supposedly no connection to the real Sparta, Mississippi), part of the movie was filmed in Sparta, Illinois, where many of the film's landmarks can still be seen.

I had recorded The Maltese Falcon in advance and when I started it, the music was funny and the intro was different, then some guy was playing Sam Spade... To my chagrin, I had recorded the 1931 version, did not even know there was a 1931 version, and I'm slightly ashamed to admit I turned it off. I wanted Bogart, Lorie, Bond, Astor, and Greenstreet.

Flypaper

This is disturbing. I've seen this film only once. Coincidentally, a few nights ago I was thinking back to when I saw this film. I remember that night very well, because earlier I'd learned an old friend that I hadn't seen in years had passed away.

Amazon wants $2.99 to rent. They show it semi regularly on TCM so I've got it set to record the next time it comes on and hopefully I'll catch the right version. :)

HA! I had forgotten about that! I have the dvd and it has both versions.

All Through The Night is another good Bogey film. More of a comedy though.

Also, Key Largo, To Have And Have Not, The Big Sleep ... quality.

I have thought about purchasing the bluray version. :)

Mr. Roberts (1955)- One of my favorite WWII movies about the human spirit under the thumb of an oppressive Captain.

Trivia- The U.S. Navy did not want this movie made because it portrayed a Captain in a bad light, but John Ford, the Director and a former Navy Captain talked them into it. :)

With Arrow releasing a good deal of Elio Petri's output (fingers crossed for A Quiet Place in the Country and The 10th Victim special editions), I decided to revisit his Oscar Winning rather disturbing satire Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion. This loving ode to crime thrillers concerns a homicide detective who gets away with murder.

Investigation.jpg

Investigation... is for lack of a better expression, an absolutely unhinged film. Volonte and Ms. Bolkan play their roles to the hilt (I forgot what a pervert her character is, she can be amusing or somewhat creepy. It is no wonder she became so very popular with giallo directors after this movie.) Volonte's homicide detective is an awful person and he plays up the arrogance, coldness and paranoia perfectly. The film is shot beautifully.

Lately, I am fascinating with certain frames and color...a residual side effect of watching Dario Argento's works almost constantly. The color yellow (giallo) pops up a lot as I think Petri was trying to play with the murder mystery conventions of that genre (which just got a significant boost, from, yes, Dario's first movie.) I wonder if Chang Cheh was visually inspired by this, Argento's Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Sam Peckinpah when CC filmed Vengeance! but that is pure spit balling on my part.

Debating if I should pick up the Criterion Investigation... blu/dvd set. It looks stellar on iTunes.

X-Men Days of Future Past (2014)- There is one cool scene where Quicksilver runs around and changes the projections of bullets and such during a fight, to Time in a Bottle (the song), but the movie showing on FX is doing nothing for me. I've always dislike James McAvoy as Picard, I mean Xavier. ;)

However, spreaking of Mr. McAvoy, does anyone remember the movie Wanted (2098)? I'd like to see that again.

Recently watched this (again). One of my favorites, and IMHO an underrated movie.

Okay, forgive me but I need to rant. Curse words ahead. Do NOT ****ing watch or rent or buy the director's cut of Payback with Mel Gibson. It sucked such huge donkey balls I can't even begin to start. It's a completely different movie. And I'm not talking about added or deleted scenes or anything. It's 100% NOT the original theatrical release. I hated it so much that I asked for a refund from Google Play. Like I'll get it, but I left a one star rating on it. IT SUCKED ASS. NOTHING like the original. Kris Kristoffern is not even in it. Nothing. No boxing match thing, no blowing up the apartment thing with him in it, nothing. It sucked. It was awful. Avoid it like the plague.

Wow, that was quick. It got refunded. Good on ya, Google!!
