I just watched Wonder Woman and wow!! Most recommended; fun, action-packed, nice story, great visuals, great effects, terrific soundtrack and Gal Gadot is the most beautiful woman ever, I swear her husband is the luckiest man alive! 10/10 would watch again.

Finally saw Alien Covenant yesterday. Can someone tell me why idiot boy is ruining the Alien franchise? These last two movies completely hinge on the fact that the big dead alien in the first movie was an "engineer" and now we are to believe that David created the Xenomorph? I mean come on, this is getting freaking stupid.

Wonder Woman (2017)- It my destiny to see this at the theater. :) Spoiler free:
  • A good movie, but I'm not compelled to own it.
  • A perfectly cast Diana, chalk up another crush. ;)
  • Good backstory.
  • WWI filmed dark and in septia tones- did not care for that.
  • CGI fighting was good.
  • Bloodless PG13 violence, no heads come off, no gore.
  • Phrase from movie that needs remembering: The world needs love!

  • The Hitman's Bodyguard (Aug 18)- Maybe. :)
  • Valarian and the City of a Thousand Planets (July 21)- High interest.
  • Blade Runner 2049 (Oct 6)- A must see, but bracing for dissapointment.
  • Thor Ragnarack (Nov3)- I did not like the second one.

The "Engineer" is that race of people that made the bio-weapon that created the Alien and David evolved them into the Xenomorph we are familiar with ....

Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) Irving Kershner directs a John Carpenter script. We caught this on tv tonight and it made me remember just how much I enjoyed it.

Fashion photographer Laura Mars (Faye Dunaway) uses death to provoke and sell products. Someone doesn't like that and starts killing people around Laura. Cue Laura's psychic visions of the murders. Enter cop John Neville (Tommy Lee Jones - who knew he was young once :D) who is very protective and lovey - dovey...

Faye and Tommy had very good chemistry and were fun. Add some very campy performances mixed in with an R rated nod to Dario Argento (it was rated R but felt like PG-13 to me), a tiny bit of suspense and another great Carpenter score. Kerchner does a good job with the script and some of the cast seem to get the story more than others (fun to see Brad Dourif and Raul Julia too) I wonder what this would have been like had John actually directed?

I remember this title and I think I liked it. :)

Looks promising! - never heard of it before, will keep in mind.

Finally started Demons2 some days ago but stopped watching it after 25mins - was a bit tired already but also didn't hook me as the predecessor instantly did.

Eyes almost feels like a slightly risqué TV movie now (esp. in light of what Argento and Carpenter released at that time), but it does hold up and entertains. I appreciate seeing a less violent American tweak of the giallo style. And it was fun to see director Kerschner try this before he was tapped to direct Empire Strikes Back.

Demons 2: agreed. The first Demons is scary (the premise not the makeups which feel silly to me), the second, not so much.

Not starting anything, but I'm curious if you read the book? :) I don't doubt that Jackson put together a good story, (I've not watched this installment) but besides the extremely bloated nature of the 3 movies, especially this battle which was one chapter if I recall correctly. I really disliked how artificial high points were added in the movies along with over the top visual sequences, like the fight after they escaped the goblins, and sequence escaping from the woodland fairies.

I've read The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings several times.

The movies of The Lord of the Rings was one of the few times I've thought the movie was better than the books. I didn't feel that way about The Hobbit. While I liked the movies, I thought there was one movie too many, and really didn't like that Jackson just totally made up Tauriel.

Regarding The Hobbit movies, wasnt that 'Azog the pale orc' made up as well? That entire plot line seemed pointless. I think Smaug was the best part of the Hobbit movies, for me.

Are you really referring to Ridley Scott as "idiot boy"? I know everyone is entitled to their opinions, but that seems a bit harsh given his long history of critical and commercial successes. Of his more recent work I particularly like The Martain.

And kudos to him for still working hard at age 79.

I love the books, but the movies were tremendous! :)

Found my copy of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Excellent flick. Will be watching it Friday evening. I saw it two years after it came out and thought it was the coolest movie of all time. I'm not a scifi person, but it's a very good movie. Several years later, I happened across a cymbal playing monkey and thought back to the movie. The toy had a prominent scene in the film if I'm not mistaken.

Watch it if you haven't seen it!

all but the Thor one look good to me.

Also, just got an email about Apple TV and watching the newest Planet of the Apes... why? I don't mean to be condescending, but seriously, why? Planet of the Apes ...why?
I can't fathom the remakes or people watching them. I've seen all the originals and I didn't find them that engrossing back in the day. i know, different strokes for different folks but these films, and other remakes, just confound me.

Be curious to hear what other people think about it. I really liked how subtle the stinger reveal was, I thought the actors played that very well.

Interestingly, this is playing at an NYC theatre this weekend for one showing. Had it been earlier in the day, I would have commuted to see it on the big screen.
