Saw Tron: Legacy (2010) recently but felt that was a huge bust. I did enjoy Olivia Wilde and loved Michael Sheen though (that man need to be in more genre films as he's great in every single one of them.)

Bit of an Ivan Rassimov kick today...

So far, Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I have the Key (1972) - not worth even renting. I disliked this nasty take on the Black Cat when I first saw it 13 years ago and still feel the same way today. Anita Strindberg was one of the worst "actresses" of the 70s Eurocult circuit and coupling her overwrought (not even fun OTT) perf with the maudlin storyline was fatale. Not even Edwige Fenech and Ivan's 5 minute cameo helped things. Shame that this film which sports one of the best ever movie titles is one of the worst. Ivan is fun, but not in this movie enough (actually I can say about every single giallo he did with Martino. I am not sure why Sergio insisted upon dead weight George Hilton to carry most of his better thrillers while Ivan lingered in the background as awesome bad guys. He should have been the lead at least once. Oh well.

Planet of the Vampires (1965) This movie had a considerable influence on Alien and borrows just a bit from director Mario Bava's super creepy debut Mask of Satan (a.k.a. Black Sunday.) The spaceships Argos and Galliant land on a desolate planet after picking up a distress signal from somewhere on the surface. Soon formless, malevolent beings (perhaps the ghosts of the alien craft that crashed on said world many years prior) start to possess and kill both crews; but the "dead" rise with the means to infect and destroy their living peers. The ending is silly as hell, but there's a lot of fun build up and some creepy dread. Pretty amazing how special effects technician Bava made primary colors and shapes feel spooky. Worth a look if you can get past the really hokey acting (including Ivan's first role as young member of the Argos.)

Could you Be Any More Bastard Inspector Cliff (a.k.a. Super B++tch) (1973) Ivan does Clint Eastwood as an undercover narc looking to take down drug dealers and kinky blackmailers. It's all great fun and perfectly over the top (lots of nudity from Stephanie Beacham) and some insanely perfect overacting from Patricia Hayes and the dubbers. It's fun to see Ivan as a hero again (or in this case anti-hero.)

Spasmo (1976) This giallo is a super test in patience as Robert Hoffmann's Christian is uncertain if he had a hand in murders and equally weird, mannequins are all over the place; is he guilty or is someone trying to frame him. We eventually learn that there's a mental imbalance in his family and the person's sanity would decline rapidly. Guess who plays his older brother, yep, Ivan. If you don't like being strung along and tripped up while waiting for your murder mystery to be solved, you might be able to roll with this. I've seen it four times in the last 14 years so I guess that is saying something for a person like me who will rewatch a movie she loves many, many times.

Off to revisit another of Ivan's better giallos while waiting for my iPad Pro to charge.
You watched 5 films today? Wow! You need some sunshine for a bit!

It is raining, which is perfect weather for movies like this. :p Add A White Veil for Mariele (1972) to that list and the makes five for today (Tron Legacy was last week.) Anyway, I'd dislike this giallo as much Your Vice... if it wasn't for the fact that Ivan Rassimov gets a lead role and most of the extremely unpleasant characters get bumped off fast. Mariele had a rough childhood (watching her cheating mother die at the hands of her father) so now, much against her husband's will, she invites a bunch of low life counter-culturish people over for a party that turns rather deadly. Ivan does the sort of hero role here and it suits him (just as it did in spaghetti westerns etc.), he's the only likable character in a movie filled with self-absorbed, bigoted idiots who frankly mostly deserve their fates. The random psychedelia works here (though not as well as All The Colours of the Dark or A Lizard in a Woman's Skin), and while the payoff isn't as interesting as other gialli made at the time it's worth a watch.

Amazon is adapting the brilliant Pratchett / Gaiman novel, Good Omens into a series, and it'll star Michael Sheen as the angel, Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley! Totally stoked about the casting and the series potential, especially after seeing the really outstanding treatment of more adult comic series like Preacher, and more on point, the American Gods series (original source written by Gaiman).

Interesting. Glad to hear about Michael Sheen and another genre role. I'll politely pass as those kinds of stories/shows/comics are not my thing. Hope you dig it though.

Alien Covenant (2017)- 3/10. Worthless entry for the franchise. The nice photography of New Zealand could not overcome this terrible chapter. Based on a comment I remember in this forum, it's not that the crew did stupid things (the writers fault if anyone's), they just had no chance as they fall one by one. Predictable, zero suspense, empty and void. I was anticipating it's awfulness and for the ending, the director did not fool me one bit.

Agreed, scream in frustration

So after some suggestions and recommendations made in this very thread I saw The Crazies, which was ok but nothing I'll re-watch too soon again (had problems remembering the name already although that could have different, deeper, underlying reasons ;) ). Probably a bit too predictable and overall a bit unbalanced (could be on purpose though) for my taste, dunno.

And also Near Dark. Which was just phenomenal! Begun with the starting credits (music by Tangerine Dream) and the film is pretty much perfect. Great cast, innovative story and mix up of the western and vampire sub-genre. Lots of Aliens veterans either - strange that. Great piece and thanks for bringing it up here, folks!

Now pondering whether I should watch the Ghost in The Shell (2016) movie or the Chrome version of Mad Max - Fury Road...

Fun! I love when someone enjoys a movie recommendation - especially one you likely wouldn't see / know about.

If you like Bill Paxton (and how could you _not_), I'd also recommend Frailty, he stars in it with Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe, and he also directed it. About a Dad (Paxton) who wakes up one day saying that god told him there are demons he has to go out and kill - it's a slow burn, takes place in a small town with a nice gothic vibe, some great twists (his kids are really solid actors).

I've written off this franchise, not impying it's terrible, but that I've enjoyed at most two of the entries, the original and the Tim Burtin's remake of the original and admit many (all?) of the reboot, I have not seen, just parts. Sorry, but I must ask, based on the image, has the franchise touched on the aspect of inter-species sex?

A wonderfully told story.

No, it has not touched the inter-species topic. the picture is showing the little girl cuase they touch the subject about the Simian Flu and its killing the humans and not letting them speak, making them wild. (its a nod to the original, when they didnt speak either) The new versions are great, heck i even like tim burtons version, even thou alot of people dont like it for some reason.

I too liked the Tim Burton film other than returning to Earth and it's history has been completely flipped. ;)
