Tonight I enjoyed watching Gifted (2017) -- Chris Evans, McKenna Grace, Octavia Spencer, Lindsay Duncan, Jenny Slate. A sweet movie. And who knew a one-eyed orange tabby cat could become a movie star?

We watched this a few weeks ago. Cute and predictable, but it was a fun movie.

This was better than expected.
Tale of Tales
3 loosely related Medieval Italian "fairytales".
Don't expect much of it to make any kind of sense, just go along for the weirdness and the fabulous scenery of Southern Italy.

Human Capital, in Italian w/ English subtitles. It's a bit unusual in being a European screen adaptation of an American novel (of the same name, by Stephen Amidon). How well does greed really work, anyway? The film has more twists and turns than the roads into a mountain town... and it's pretty good. Starts at the end, flips back to beginnings, takes each of three of the half-dozen or so main characters' POV for a part of the tale we get to see. Love movies like this: "What is the truth?"

My viewing tastes lately have been pedestrian in comparison, Caddy Shack (1980), but that sounds interesting even with subtitles. ;) Rodney Dangerfield more than pulls his weight in this comedy. :)

Caddybshack qestions about golf:
  • Does a ball that drops into a hole, 30 seconds after it has stopped, because it's vibrated by an explosion, count?
  • If you are playing doubles and you are last to shoot, and if you miss the putt, it's described as a loss, but if you make it, it's a win? Would'nt it be a a win or a tie, or a tie and a loss?

It felt like more than 90 minutes.
I bet the budget was cheap!

85 minutes in a box? ;)

I love Salma Hayek, but I think I'll skip this one. Not a fan of horror.
[doublepost=1504238272][/doublepost]Anyway, I think I'll be watching that Lenin movie @Scepticalscribe mentioned weeks ago.

No the full 90! Production costs would have been small. I think the set builder would have been done in around 20 minutes.

Its not a horror film. At. All.
Three medieval Italian tales woven together.
:)
Really? IMDB lists it as horror drama. I hope you're being honest. I can't stomach horror. I'm still trying to forget the memories of seeing Salo clips in university.

Well, yes, I suspect sometimes IMDB is run, as most of the internet is, by children who don't know better. Dragon! oooh scary! Blood! Ooooh must be horrah! Ooooh Breasts! Giggle. Must be porn. Witch! ooooh!

I hope you're being honest.
Why would I lie? o_O

Perhaps read this and make up your own mind?

To try and compare this to Salò is a bit rich… But then again I guess some people read Boccaccio in the expurgated version, cause, you know, sexy tales.

Excellent post.

A few years ago, I treated myself to a beautiful, old, hard back, exquisite edition of Boccaccio's Decameron; sublime.

Edge of Tomorrow, aka Live. Die. Repeat

One of the best Sci-Fi movies of the last decade, did $370M worldwide, but I think still very underrated, underknown.

War of the Worlds + Aliens + Groundhog Day, based on a 2004 Manga.

Great Sci-Fi concept, acting, cast, production design, very highly recommended (just picked it up in HDX on UV :) )

I watched Baywatch yesterday. Frankly speaking, I don't like it much as I expected more from it. Of course, there were some funny moments, but in general, this is not one of those movies I will watch again and again.
lol.
no offense but what in the hell did you expect from it?

I watched Dirty Grandpa last year on account of De Niro being in it. I hate it when great actors take on fluff movies. :( Awful movie at that. I lost count after the first half hour of F bombs.

Internet went a bit funny last night. Going to watch Goodbye Lenin tonight, but I'm tempted to watch one of the Dean Dujardin's films. Choices... choices... choices...

Just watched "John Wick 2" with the family. Great movie. Good action and the cinematography was awesome. They should get an award for it. Yeah, it's not high art but it's a good flick and delivered more than expected.

I wanted to watch this because I didnt know much about the content (and I remembered it being mentioned in Jaws).

I had forgotten about how bad an actor Nick Cage is. The storylines, script & acting were pretty bad and the special effects were lousy.

Im going to find a documentary about this subject instead.

PS>> i dont like giving bad reviews but i though i should warn others about this one.

went to my nieces house and saw this movie with her. i enjoyed this movie except for the ending (which fell flat) and i didnt like what they did with the dr jekyll and hyde character(russel crowe)they did a half ass job on him when he "supposedly" transformed to the hyde monster, other than that it was good. the mummy was quite sexy, its a female

There was another movie about the USS Indianapolis many years ago, that starred Stacy Keach that was pretty good. Can't recall the name, but it would be worth watching. Good acting and a decent script.

Heck, the fight scene direction, choreography, cinematography, staging, I'd say _is_ art. Sure the underlying narrative is "Two guys trying to shoot each other ...", but the execution is beautiful.
