I loved all of the books, and movies!
I liked how this story started as a child’s narrative, it felt simplistic, (although that may be too harsh a word) and the wizarding world seemed like mostly a happy place, but as it progressed, got more complex and dark. I realize this was because the target audience vested in the books, besides the adults, were growing up.![]()
Well, as J K Rowling herself remarked when told that some commentators think that the first book is light, pleasant and perhaps 'simplistic' in tone - "it opens with a double murder - what is light about that?"
But, yes, I think that the books because more layered, more complex, more nuanced as the series progressed, allowing the reader to see the wizarding world as an amazing - but extraordinarily flawed - place; actually, I think that J K Rowling's world building (let alone her character development and capacity to sustain an impressive plot) was wonderfully impressive.
You're right. I should reread the books since I have them on my iPad.
Seriously, you should. They are excellent.
And - unlike a lot of fantasy - the final book, Deathly Hallowes - is brilliant and brings the series home in style.
