Regarding Amy, I’ve not seen it, but based on your description I’ve been in movies about misery and I walk out wondering why was I tortured for several hours? Was I supposed to gain aweness or learn something? Although these are not good comparisons, recently I saw Star Wars Rouge One and
they accomplished their mission. So that was good. But in
Cold Mountain we see a Civil War soldier struggle to get home

The Road was two hours of hopelessness. Why bother? Now maybe the books for the last two were better. At least in the
Post Man, all of the character’s efforts made a difference in the post apocalyptic world. So as a rule I don’t knowingly go to movies to be beat up without something positive resulting from the experience.
