Seen the movie about fifty times.

Oh I figured, I think we've talked about it before :D

There's a few fantastic movies I've seen 50+ times, that I can just pop in at any time and get sucked in (Shawshank Redemption comes to mind).

Over Christmas I did a Die Hard double bill several times

Kind of accurate, sure, but they still got the wheat fields wrong. ;)

Edit:
Watched Amy last night. My husband is a fan (who knew?).
Amy_%282015_film%29_poster.png

God. How utterly depressing. And we all knew how it was going to end.
Watch Amy stagger from drug binge to food binge to alcohol binge and finally carried out in a body bag.

Not a highlight of my holiday movies.
What were wrong with the wheat fields? I need to know. :)
Regarding Amy, I’ve not seen it, but based on your description I’ve been in movies about misery and I walk out wondering why was I tortured for several hours? Was I supposed to gain aweness or learn something? Although these are not good comparisons, recently I saw Star Wars Rouge One and

although everyone died
they accomplished their mission. So that was good. But in Cold Mountain we see a Civil War soldier struggle to get home
just to die
and The Road was two hours of hopelessness. Why bother? Now maybe the books for the last two were better. At least in the Post Man, all of the character’s efforts made a difference in the post apocalyptic world. So as a rule I don’t knowingly go to movies to be beat up without something positive resulting from the experience.

The first was the absolute best. :) And regarding my reply to @arkitect about hopelessness in movies, Shawshank Redemption was one of my top movies were enduring hopelessness was well worth it! :D

Mrs AFB has just put in gone girl. Not sure if I'll bail (in the form of a nap!) or stick it out.
Doesn't look interesting so far.
Looking forward to the verdict. :)

It's outstanding, not quite the Fincher masterpiece like Zodiac or Fight Club, but exceptional. Definitely has a lot of common with [the postmodern fiction] element of Fight Club ... and also shares the very dark humor (some people I think we're baffled, is it a mystery? Suspense? A comedy?)

DH2 is very good, but doesn't have quite the originality of DH (kind of the first "everyman action hero" genre), and of course, no one will ever be a better bad guy than Alan Rickman :)

HANS GRUBER! That movie made Alan Rickman a star in the U.S. (first movie I remember him in) and made Bruce Willis a super action star. :)

Hahahaha. Not that much. We weren't all Hobbits back then.
Watched the video. Lol, was that guy picky. A critique for historians of ancient horticulture. :) I imagine the height of wheat was just not important to the value of the story and the film makers were not focused on accurate fields of wheat or if aware, did not think it was worth the expense of a digital rework, but instead were focused on the aesthetic presentation of their story. It was a pretty field. :)

Btw, I did question Maximus’s horse ride from Germania to Spain. :D

We bailed. Wasn't our thing. At least we didn't pay for it!

Never seen fight club.

In my mind it's a journey fueled by hopefulness, faith and ends in a beautiful sacrifice.
Barf! ;) As you can tell it did not have that effect on me. Did you read the book by chance? I did not and maybe that might have given me a different perspective, but maybe not. ;)

I’ve not seen it. I remember something about a rape scene or something related, (bondage, SM? Don’t remember) and having flashbacks to when I went on a first date to see Straw Dogs which included a rape scene, I declined to watch it.

Just watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It was what I expected. It was good, but not great. There are a few scenes that are down right hilarious though. To me, Jack Black and Dwayne steal the show. They have some seriously funny lines and interactions with the rest of the group.

We didn't get that far. I had a personal issue with the story line I'd rather not get into.
But it was a slow start. Didn't look like it was going to get any better. Mrs AFB read online to see what was going to happen. She also decided it wasn't for her.

Wow, I guess in my peer group, that's sort of a "reference" film.

I did, but _after_ I saw the film, though funny enough I had the McCarthy novel sitting around for a few years, the movie was made, saw the movie, read the book. I did read No Country for Old Men before I saw the film, I was a fan of McCarthy's much earlier work like Child of God, Blood Meridian.

FWIW, the rape scene in Straw Dogs is horrific, in Gone Girl, it's well, suggested, but there is an, umm, sex scene, that's a little reverse rape-y, and bloody. Yes, it's dark, thought it's bordering on comical.

Thanks for the critique! No Country For Old Men was dark, Anton Chigur scared the hell out of me, and although the ending was unresolved, I walked out of the theater unhappy, but not as unhappy as some of the other hopeless stories I mentioned.

i gotta check out Dark ...

Do it, just watched ~30mins so far but it caught me right away. Also it features Angelika Winkler who, besides babysitting lil twietee at times long ago, is also an amazing actress. Rest of the cast seems fine as well. No idea how the dubbed version is so you gotta tell me..

Fincher is hit or miss for me. I'm still undecided with Gone Girl.

To me, guys like Fincher or Wright have such a unique style that you can pick their movies out of a random selection of movie scenes. You either like it or you don't.

oops - Bright, that's right. thx
Had some hopes with the general premise (and thought it's the pilot of the series initially..and just realized halfway in: "Eh, that's it?!) but what a dull experience.
Was not impressed with Bright, B class repetitive, variation of Alien Nation.

Last night I watched Sully with my wife and parents. It wasn't what I was expecting but still a good movie.

Parts of it were good, but I found it generally boring and dragging on (despite being an aviation enthusiast).

I thought there wasn't much meat in the movie. Too many bones and too little meat.

Count yourself fortunate that you didn't waste your time. It's one of the most grossly disgustingly overrated films of all time. 2nd only to The Matrix (in terms of being overrated).

completely and utterly disappointed in Dark. :(

I'd rather read subtitles TBH.
