Harry Potter again today. This time the prisoner of azkaban.

Gives us something to do for a couple of hours as it's on the TV. Although we have the box set!

My favorite Leonardo movies are Titanic (of course), Inception, and The Departed. I thought he did a good job in Django Unchained and Catch Me If You Can.

I enjoyed Django Unchained.

The Prisoner of Azkaban is an excellent book, and the movie - in terms of both being an exciting movie and in terms of fidelity to the book it is based on, is among the best of the movies.

Excellent choice.

Gladiator (2000)- A holiday favorite. :p I walked out of the theater after seeing it and said Best picture... a good guess for that year. ;) It won 8 oscars. I thought Oliver Reed should have won best supporting actor. Great sound track. Impressive CGI on the colluseum shots. I found the filming locations section of this link (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladiator_(2000_film)) of interest. The Germania battle scene was filmed in Surrey, UK.

Favorite quote: Now they love Maximus more than me! (Boohoo). :)

Accuracy: There were many historical inaccuracies in the film and some of the possibly accurate events borrow from less than certain sources. In fact, many historians who were hired to advise on the movie quit or refused to be given credits because of the many historical inaccuracies the final version had. Nevertheless, as with most historical dramas, this movie was more about entertainment than historical narrative. The general narrative of a somewhat crazy emperor in the form of Commodus embellishing in gladiator games was true and, in fact, reality was probably more outrageous than what was shown in the film, as the emperor often made himself dress as a gladiator and fought numerous contests with animals and others, such as wounded gladiators.

Watched "Waking Up with Sam Harris" last night. Don't agree with everything, especially when he starts bashing others with the same message as himself, but it was definitely worth watching and its always interesting to see how messages overlap and how some speakers sandwich truths between falsehoods to mislead people. Also saw lecture from Michael Persinger called "No more secrets". Fantastic information.

The Visitor (2007)

Rated PG: Parental Guidance Suggested – no material suitable for Donald Trump supporters

Sicario (2015) - Really good. I'm becoming a big Denis Villeneuve fan.

Watched this based on your recommendation. I did not like it, but not because it was bad. :p It was a dark story, competently made, excellent portrayals, but the story was unsettling. First brush, I just did not feel good about what I was watching, understanding what I was seeing. After a short time contemplating, the best way to describe it is FBI agents who are used to working under an umbrella of laws and legalities, end up in an operation against a drug cartel where there are no rules.

A couple of crap movies: Spiderman: Homecoming and Blight

Now started with Dark on Netflix which is quite intriguing and seems like the grown-up version of Stranger Things (that I didn't like).

oops - Bright, that's right. thx
Had some hopes with the general premise (and thought it's the pilot of the series initially..and just realized halfway in: "Eh, that's it?!) but what a dull experience.

Kind of accurate, sure, but they still got the wheat fields wrong. ;)

Edit:
Watched Amy last night. My husband is a fan (who knew?).

God. How utterly depressing. And we all knew how it was going to end.
Watch Amy stagger from drug binge to food binge to alcohol binge and finally carried out in a body bag.

Not a highlight of my holiday movies.
