Black Rain, as in the old Michael Douglas movie? Talk about going back and it was a pretty decent movie.
This as being advertised as the best western since Unforgiven. It looks like it had a limited release in December, and an upcoming general release this month. Anyone seen it?
I like Unforgiven. I really like that the shoot out at the end was decidedly more messy than the Shane (1953) shootout.
What bothered you about Unforgiven?

I'd been wanting to watch this one since reading the critical acclamation after it made the festival circuit - currently on Amazon Prime.
It's fantastic, and I can't say enough things about Vince Vaughn. I knew he was a pretty fantastic actor, even though much of his career has been in comedy (I _love_ Old School
). He powerful, engaging, subtle - his physicality is perfectly incorporated, fantastic fight staging, all practical effects (yes, some look cheesy, by design). This is an extremely violent, graphic film - it's a mix of 70s exploitation, modern noir (like Tarantino), S. Craig Zahler is director/writer and he even wrote the score, this amazing selection of 70s style music, with a few tunes performed by the O'Jays - who some might know from his previous film, Bone Tomahawk (another incredible movie that turns a western into a horror film, also equally graphic/horrific).
He has another film in the works, Dragged Across Concrete, reuniting his Cell Block actors: Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter, Don Johnson, Udo Kier and adding Mel Gibson to the mix. HIGHLY anticipated.
It's one of my favorites, the best of the "new westerns" and easily stacks up against classic westerns (while adding that extra layer of deconstruction).

I did, I like it. My critique there is that for the climax, the bad guys just waltz into town and make themselves sitting ducks. Blame it on over confidence.

Just watched Bright on Netflix. Not that great but I think it had a good concept of bringing the middle earth world to modern day. But, I think it was a weak movie. Not a Will Smith fan anyway.
Not a fan of his either but I did end up really enjoying that film.
His last line of the film, "I need an aspirin...", was unnecessary and not funny.
still watching it... jury still out... just a meh from me. kinda hammy. how many marvel characters can chris evans play?

Saw it again, but Lady Bird is definitely my favorite movie of 2017. Every character is developed and real.
Just finished this..... Not bad actually. Bummed the second part doesn't come out till 2019 or so.
