Actually, a really good cast, the first part was pretty good, and then it kinda falls flat.

Again, really good cast, but overall, just okay.

First film was the one with the weird couple groping the troopers, right? I've been meaning to watch Super Troopers for a while.

Since it came out.

I’ve never been in a theater where everybody was that quiet. The film never lets up! I will say no more. Tell me what u think after u catch it.

Saw it last night, it's pretty fantastic (the rave reviews are spot on). I really like the choice of a "snapshot" type narrative, starts here ... ends here, we don't need more. Performances are spectacular - even more so when you consider the almost non-existent dialog. It sets up and sustains a great mood, beautifully filmed, has terrific underlying context (great sci-fi always does), scary, touching.

Interestingly, I read an article (_after_ we saw it), that the studio originally wanted to incorporate it into the "Cloverfield Universe", but Krasinski really pushed to make it a stand-alone film, he didn't want to dilute the story with any baggage.

It was super quiet for the most part, some halfwits brought a baby, it gurgled a few times, to be honest, it added some scary background sounds :D

  • “A quiet place”: great psych horror flick. I truly enjoyed it, and the good acting definitely improved the experience. Without spoiling it, I enjoyed the semi-dystiopian style in the beginning contrasted with the events that unfold.
  • “Ready Player One”: I *LOVED* it. Yes, it’s a nostalgia fest. Yes, it’s cheesy at times. But... it’s great entertainment, with a fun plot, fun characters, and lots of references. I actually watched it twice, once alone with my wife and once with my kids. They also loved it as they also found many nostalgia references (yes, I make them play old videogames a-la Pitfall and watch 80’s oldies).
  • “Rampage”: OMG what a crappy movie. It sucks as a movie, it sucks as entertainment, it sucks and it’s boring and stupid. On top of that, most jokes fell flat.
  • “Blockers”: ah, what a nice surprise. It’s a stupid movie, of course. I would’ve never paid admission for it, so thanks to Moviepass for allowing me to laugh for a couple of hours. Still not worth the ticket price, but it’s more enjoyable than I expected. Rent it on Redbox if you want to disconnect your brain for a couple of hours and have many good laughs.

I am assuming most people here have Moviepass (the only way to see movies these days). I use mine all the time. The last movie I watched was a Quiet Place, which was really good for the most part. The story and acting was incredible, but I thought it lacked backstory. Would liked to have known more about what happened.

My favorite movie I have seen in the last month was Tomb Raider. I thought it was the best video game movie I have seen. Really entertaining and good acting that made for a good movie. Now it's just wait a couple of days for Avengers to come out.

MoviePass user here. Despite the awful customer service, the product itself is amazing. A game changer. I watched more movies at the theatre in the past month than in the past five years combined.

Completely agree. I have had it since they change the price to $9.95, and I have been to the theatre more times then maybe I have in the last 10 years. It's great! I am seeing movies I would never have paid for in the theatre.

The question is are you seeing great movies in the theater? My impression is most of them are substandard.

I've definitely seen some doggerel but also some mainstream stuff I'd never have checked out that ranged from okay to very good.

Also, thanks to MoviePass adding Fathom events and my fortune at having access to some quality independent theaters (and the AFI nearby) I've also gotten to see some amazing stuff on the big screen. Standouts that come to mind...

All the President's Men
Casablanca (w/panel and Q&A)
Philadelphia Story
Being John Malkovich
Burns Vista Social Club
Blade Runner
Blade Runner 2049
L'Argent (Bresson's last film)
The Sacrifice (Tarkovsky's last film)
Vertigo
African Queen
Bob Dylan: Trouble No More
Stagecoach (w/Q&A)
Get Out (which I missed in its original run)

That doesn't include some I almost saw but skipped at the last minute because of real life. Wish I'd caught Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Grand Budapest Hotel , Big Lebowski, Bonnie & Clyde, and Man Who Shot Liberty Valance come to mind.

Some current stuff I've enjoyed and might have waited until streaming:

A Quiet Place
Beirut
The Square
Lucky (Harry Dean Stanton)
Faces Places (documentary)
Loving Vincent
Death of Stalin
Isle of Dogs
Annihilation
Gringo

It also made it painless to revisit some movies with different friends who have incompatible schedules or even to re-evaluate or re-watch more critically...

Star Wars (friends and to reconsider)
A Quiet Place (to focus on its sound design)
Shape of Water (friends)
Three Billboards (re-evaluate thematic concerns)

Best of all? Great sanity check and "news overload prevention service."

I think I have seen about 7 movies in the last 8 months that were good movies. The rest have been what you say is subpar. Are you debating getting movie pass?
