Watching a wacky indie offering from the Netherlands, Schneider vs. Bax (2015), in Dutch with English subtitles.
Two hit men sic'd on each other by a third party, not clear so far if either one realizes his target is also a back-atcha hunter... nor does the viewer have a clue what's up with the third party's motives...
Well anyway some sidebar events with additional characters are fairly amusing in a noir sort of way... unfortunately I got caught up in a long phone call earlier that interrupted my viewing, and now I have no idea if this thing is going to continue down a dark comedy road or just take a truly dark road to the credits... possibly not something I want to finish watching before sleep, so I'm leaving it until tomorrow! What I've seen so far though, I'd watch again.

Watch it if you have some spare time to kill and are a Reeves fan. If you want to see the character done well, with good writing and acting then you should watch the TV series "Constantine". Much truer to the extremely well written comics. Don't know if the streaming services have it, but you can watch it on the CW Seed free. It's much better than the movie was.

Agreed!! This show shouldn't have been on the channel it was. It would have fit right in on the CW and he has been on a few episodes of the shows on CW.

Did you read the original Hellblazer series? I started the reboot and couldn't get into it. I am now looking for the trades of the original since I have heard nothing but good things about it.

I read the original series from issue #1 :) (plus his early appearances in Swamp Thing)

I have to say, while I thought the TV show hit a lot of beats just perfectly, including the casting of JC, the writing was clunky, I think - like you - a different network, a better long term plan, a few casting and plot changes and it could've been terrific.

FYI, there's a really fun animated movie. Justice League Dark that includes Constantine, and he's voiced by Matt Ryan (of the TV show).

My favorite run of Hellblazer (may be the longest writer/illustrator team on the title) was Garth Ennis doing the writing chores, just some fantastic stuff (his storyline was the basis for the plot of the movie). He's also the creator/writer of Preacher, so that probably gives you a sense of it :D

I actually kind of like the Keanu movie, clearly it's an odd (or bad ...) casting choice (decades ago, when the idea of a movie was being knocked around, I was a big advocate of Sting the title role :)), but it's got some fantastic moments that I think really capture the tone from the comic, and there's some crazy fantastic casting like Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare!

I agree with the casting of Keanu, but for some reason it works. Your comment on the original series and Garth Ennis is one reason why I am actively seeking them out. I loved his Preacher run and yes he is one twisted dude!

Peter as Satan himself was absolutely priceless, I also really liked Tilda's character. For some reason that movie just works for me.

Can't wait to get my hands on the books...

These are the three movies I have lined up for this week. My friend gave the DVDs to me; they really have nothing in common other than that he said he "thought I would like them":

Crimes and Misdemeanors
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Badlands

We shall see :)

All three are *outstanding*, assuming Badlands is the '73 Malick film, and wow, yeah, all over the place thematically (and Mr. Fox is actually animated), three terrific directors (Anderson and Allen) at the top of their game.

Pumping Iron(1977)

I first watched this movie about 5 years ago. It's a classic with a very campy/indie 70s feel to it. The movie which introduced Arnie to the world(beyond bodybuilding). Definitely recommended... even if you're not into weight training.

However masochistic and stupid it may be, I make it a point to always finish the film I've already started watching. However bad it may be, and however long it may take.

About four days ago I started Meet the Blacks (2016) on Netflix, and maybe, in part, because I've had a hellish couple of weeks of non stop work it's been seven times that I've started, and re-started watching this abomination of a film. I've yet to finish it, but I thought I might as well give it a try tonight.

It's supposed to be a parody of the Purge-films, and I guess it is, but is it any good? Not really, no. A lot of pointless shouting and foul language just for the sake of foul language. Now, mind you, I have no problems what so ever with foul language. One of the things I love about my native tongue is that the potential for different sorts of profanities is basically endless. But it needs to be timed and delivered correctly for it to be effective. People shouting "n****r", "motherfu**er" and the like nonstop just seems immature, and cheap.

So yeah, I'm about to finish this wretched piece of sh.. work so you don't have to. If there's one positive thing I would have to mention in this vortex of artistic incapability, it would be the cameo that the film starts with. It's actually pretty brilliant. The rest? Not so much.

I can't fathom where the IMDb score comes from.

Tenebrae (1982) a famous American thriller author on tour in Italy, discovers a crazed fan is taking the authors’ latest novel to heart, killing people said fan finds deviant. When that fan is killed the murders continue. D’oh!

Dario Argento’s most linear giallo and his best imo, features Argento’s outrageous murder set pieces (including one that is shot in a very memorable, yet not terribly graphic way - rare for Dario -), and decent characters for once.

Outside of A Lizard in A Woman’s Skin, it is my most revisited film in that genre.

Love The Jerk! It was on TV the other week too and I watched it again.

It's one of my all time faves, my wife loved it before we met , which kind of sealed the deal :D

So the last month or so we've been traveling and I always bring the Apple TV for in room/condo entertainment, I own The Jerk on Vudu/iTunes, and our friends who've been traveling with us hadn't seen it - their son watched it - like 5 times! Funny watching a 12 year old totally flip out over a classic Steve Martin movie from the 70s!

I think I'm going to queue up some Mel Brooks for him next trip, probably Blazing Saddles.

Carl Reiner - "Damn these glasses boy."

Navin R Felts - "I damn thee..."

The “50 Shades...” trilogy with my wife. Not my cup of tea, too many holes in the plot and poor Johnson can’t act to save her life. 4.something/10 on IMDB might be generous.
