Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
View attachment 798544

My Dad used to mention seeing the filming (at least some scenes) of the sequel, up in Jacksonville:

Using the working titles of Return of the Creature and Return of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, filming took place at Marineland of Florida which played the part of the film's Ocean Harbor Oceanarium. The St. Johns River stood in for the Amazon in the film.[4]

The Lobster House restaurant where the Creature kidnaps Lori Nelson was located in Jacksonville, Florida. It was destroyed by fire in 1962. The Diamondhead Restaurant (now the River City Brewing Co.) was built adjacent to the site where the old Lobster House once stood. Friendship Park was built on the vacant land near where the Lobster House stood.

Just finished watching the new Baywatch film on Netflix. The one with The Rock et al.

I wouldn't say I exactly wasted two hours of my life (beer was involved), but then again I can't really say I gained much either. Sure, I appreciate the aesthetics of a well maintained physique be it female or male, but other than that there really isn't much to get excited about in this film. Then again, there's plenty of physique, so there's that.

I wouldn't call this bad exactly, but maybe unnecessary? Either way, be sure to have some alcohol on hand before embarking on this journey, because in conclusion, it's actually pretty bad.

I think it looked like one to avoid tbh.

I think it looked like one to avoid tbh.

Nine times out of ten you would be correct in making that assumption.

But if I were to think about the film on a "deeper" level, the fact is that ultimately it's a harmless piece of fluff that can be entertaining or infuriating based on who's watching. Much like the show it's based on. I watched the show as a kid when it aired, and still think Baywatch Nights, although short lived, was better exactly because it was the original show but even more ridiculous. This film was more in that territory.

But, as it usually is, one should probably follow their gut feeling in these cases.

Oct 27 The Blair Witch Project ('99), Halloween ('78)

TBWP holds up really well, so creepy, and so incredibly minimalist, almost nothing shown, certainly not anything supernatural, but it really taps into some basic fear, and the performances - especially Heather - are pretty fantastic.

Halloween of course, one of the great horror films of all time, the best Halloween movie, always good, and even with 20+ views, we always pick up on a few more things - the soundtrack will be playing here on Halloween night :D

...

OK, so 4 more days, probably do 2 today, maybe catch up on Channel Zero, but we have some must watch left in the list, hmm ...

The Devil’s Rejects and Hellraiser were the last two movies I watched.

Both still excellent.

Lol, I really couldn't stand The Devil's Rejects. :D

Hellraiser is great though - still haven't seen the follow up.

edit: because it popped up in my Instagram almost daily (following Mikael Olsson, photographer):
have you heard anything about a Suspiria remake? It just had its premier I think. Curious.

Yeah, Suspiria remake you either love it or hate it, goes way off the deep end into plot points that do not connect and the horror stuff doesn’t truly get going until the 3rd act. I’ll rent eventually, but in no hurry.

Rob Zombie is an acquired taste, but Bill Moseley is awesome in that series.

Hellraiser: there have been countless sequels, but for me, it is done-in-one. I haven’t read the follow up novel to the original story though.

So you've seen it already? If it weren't for said photographer (who happens to play a role in the remake) I wouldn't even know of its existence. fun guy btw! The other movie he was involved with was The Square (think 2017). Just saw bits of it but good movie I'd assume.

Rob Zombie fooled me twice now (1000 corpses and Devil's Rejects) - won't happen again. Trash imho. ;)

Re:Suspiria remake, not yet. Read enough about it to make it feel like I’ve seen it though.

Re: Rob. Trash is exactly what he’s doing. :p He has his schtick, but Bill Moseley just elevates it for me.

Laughed my way through John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness last night (That never happened prior). This movie has not aged well for me, and even worse, I found the last 20 seconds a cheap grab for a downer ending. Had the movie ended
where Brian found himself in the same dimensional limbo Katherine winds up in that would have been a great ending. Instead we get Brian seeing the possession bruise on his face and sticking his hand in the mirror, so he’ll try to bring Satan through the portal. Plus that actor’s mustache was uneven and I couldn’t unsee. :p

Big waste of some good actors, but really
the Anti-Christ or Satan is churning green liquid in a canister and Christ was an alien warning us about the evil liquid?!?

No wonder why Carpenter used a fake name instead of his own for the screenwriting credit.

I can suspend my belief real easy, but please do not insult me.

Halloween 2018 - another OK movie. the first half of the movie was just cliche` they even did the famous teen girl falls while trying to get away from the serial killer, smh. the only good thing about this movie is the second half. the rob zombie version was better. the only reason why it has a big box office number is due to the Halloween movie fame and micheal being so iconic. i expected more from this movie, what a shame.

If you hate Teddy Kennedy this film won't change your opinion of him.

Well acted, well written, but man if any of this is true, and supposedly it is, what a piece of sh*t he was.

The Disaster Artist(2017)

... or, the one in which James Franco earned my respect. A movie about the making of, what is apparently considered, the worst movie ever made.
It’s a very different type of movie but strangely i got “it”. So far, quite possibly, the best movie I’ve seen this year.

Brave heart (1995)- Excellent somewhat fictionalized history of the Independence of Scotland, when Mel Gibson still had it.

Vicky Christina Beautiful (2008)- Romantic comedy about two women on holiday in Barcelona, who meet a painter, Juan Antonio. Beautifully filmed in Barcelona and other locations. Outstanding cast.
