Aliens (1986)- I still get chills when I hear the ping of the motion tracker. I played Aliens vs Predator on my computer about 1999 and ended up with a sore neck due to tension. :p

You know Burk, I don’t know which species is worse. You don’t see them ****ing each other over for a God damned percentage.

One of the best sci-fi sequels ever made, a story with non-stop action and tension. True to the original 1979 film’s atmosphere, environment, and fidelity. It starts in the form of a bad dream to launch the viewer right back into the terror. Then back to LV426 to find out why the shake and bake terraforming colony has gone silent. This is the planet that the Nostromo original homed in on to find a derelict spaceship in the original 1979 movie. About 50 minutes in, things go downhill rapidly, but Ripley kicks some alien buttocks.

This was followed by the third completely dismal Alien 3 film, talk about taking away our happy ending...

Which image do you prefer? :D

Alien and I like the third film too, now it's better "constructed" Fox's execs should have kept well out of it. Alien and Alien 3 are more horror focused, Aliens is more about action. Alien Resurrection what to say, a fun romp in space with xenomorphs :p

Prometheus an interesting tangent and potentially promising, only to be nixed by Alien Covenant attempting to be both Alien & Aliens and failing miserably at both. Nor do I appreciate that Ripely Scott is so intent on unravelling the mystery of the Alien and suspense of the first film that really makes the film so very enjoyable.

AvPr never been able to get through the film yet, just turn it off as it's basically rubbish. AvP from 2004 I can watch as a fun action SciFi flick and my youngest likes :p

As for Aliens versus Predators from 1999 the game is still very much alive and kicking thx to GOG.com and the modding community, still one of the better Alien based games.

As for the future of the Alien? It has to go somewhere as the Xenomprph is far too terrifying/interesting to be lost in time. I'd love to see more; horror focused & action films, equally I'd want them to match the quality of the first two. Have to say we need new blood, as this line of it was all the result of an android gone bad is just poor, really poor. The Xenomorph should be terrifying & mysterious not a science experiment by a nut job. If ever a series needed a reboot it's Alien...

Great horror is based on the unknown, the fear of the unknown. Exposing everything and relying on CGI jump scares the results are beyond predictable...

As for the picture the 2nd :p:p:p finally :)

On my list to stream. I will say the 2014 Godzilla disappointed me, and the 1998 Godzilla that true fans mostly hated, including all of Japan ;), I loved while acknowledging it over looked the prime mythology of the creature. The imagery, CGI, and sequences in that 1998 movie were superb. :)

We watched the new one in IMAX. Was worth it for about 10% of the movie. There was way too much "people stuff" in the movie which they should have left out IMHO. (The "people stuff" in the 1998 movie was far more entertaining)

I thought Prometheus offered a huge potential for the future, but then Ridley fell on his sword with the follow on.

Agreed, he simply bowed to the monster movie crowd and poor advice. Covenant is ok as a standalone CGI monster film. Scott should have followed up with a deeper phycological horror on the same train as the original.

I watched the original theatrical release of Alien in 79 impact on the audience was stunning. There's very good reason why first film still scares to this very day, sadly the art is seemingly lost...

When Dallas is in the airducts, your with him all the way, as for Lambert, enough said. To those that haven't watched the original Alien do so

Part of it’s brilliance is that other than chest popping, you don’t see exactly what is happening to victims, instead leaving it up to your imagination. :)

Evolution (2001)- Ivan Reitman (Ghost Busters) comedic SciFi about a meteor strike in the desert that brings rapidly evolving organisms to Earth. It’s watchable. :)

MI Fallout

It was alright.

Onto the best tradition I've kept for many years....

Watching Le Mans just before Le Mans weekend. One of the best racing films ever apart from Grand Prix, of course.

Kill Bill, Volume 2

iu

The satisfying (imho) conclusion to the Kill Bill story. Fewer martial arts scenes, further character development of Beatrix, Bill, Bud, and the truly evil Elle; and some choice dialogue. Seemed a bit less even in its pace than KB V1, but I found it to be an overall really good film.

Captain Marvel (2019)- Blah, the story and visuals just did not grab me. I will say it has the most extensive digital reconstruction of an actor’s face (de-aging Samuel Jackson) to date, as far as I have seen. And although the movie is full of CGI it makes it feel more like you are watching an animated feature, because his face is not perfect.

Budget constraints, I imagine. Really high end CGI shorts for commercials will blow most people away after they learn it isn't real. Movies are harder. I think the best CGI I've seen in movies is the trailer for the new Lion King. You know Disney spent a fortune reconstructing it from scratch because they know they'll make a killing on it.

I have some very vague experience with different render engines and it takes a lot of time to get something hyper realistic. I remember going to see Ants with a coworker when I was sent to Charleston for a half year and we were blown away by the animation then. Ants is nothing nowadays. We both had an interest in computer animation. Always wonder what happened to him. He had such a common first and last that it would be impossible to find out if he's still alive.

Watched "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children". It was a really good movie. I was pleasantly surprising.

Watched Murder Mystery on Netflix.

Typical whodunit comedy kind of movie. I’m a fan of both main actors (Adam Sandler and Jen Aniston), but I don’t know if they were trying too hard or just aren’t that funny anymore, but their actions, dialogue and relationship seemed forced.

Whodunit story itself was alright.

Would give it a 2/5.

Pirates of the Carrabean (2003)- Enjoyable adventure! :) Expect a reboot minus Johnny Depp.

Filming locations: Scenes set in the harbor of Port Royal were filmed at Wallilabou Bay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. A replica of Fort Charles was built on the Palos Verdes Peninsula near Los Angeles, as was Governor Swann's mansion. The scenes set inside the mansion were filmed in Manhattan Beach, California.
