From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) by Robert Rodriguez. Haven't seen it in many years, I was pleased to see how entertaining this movie still is.

It's definitely a fun one. I've been meaning to start the show for a pretty long time now, but haven't gotten around to it just yet. Have you watched it? Has anyone else here? Impressions, opinions, critiques and such are welcomed.

I haven’t. What I can tell you is that halfway through the movie (right before they get to the T-y twister) my kid remarked “there’s nothing really special about this”, to which I replied “just wait.”
At the end, he loved it!

Ha, yeah it's good until they get there, then it's great until the end!

Revisit, The Delightful Forest (1972)

As one of the most well known characters in the famous piece of Chinese literature The Water Margin, Wu Sung (Song) is known for being strong, handsome, righteous, and an even more deadly martial artist when he imbibes a lot of wine.

Ti Lung portrayed Wu three times while at Shaw Brothers (a cameo in All Men Are Brothers, this movie and the prequel that leads up to The Delightful Forest, Tiger Killer in 1982).

When we first meet Wu, he’s on a vengeance quest to kill the folks who murdered his older brother. And since Wu is a man who yields to law, he turns himself in after avenging his brother.

In jail Wu gets a pardon of sorts, if he helps a prison official take back the title restaurant from thugs. The action and fights become quite bloody as movie flows along, and Wu is forced to fight with his feet for awhile until he can free his arms. This makes several fights unique and shows off Ti Lung’s kicking skills.

There is a very funny moment at a wine bar early in the movie before things get a bit more serious.

This is my favorite of the Wu Song movies Ti Lung did. He acted his pants off in Tiger Killer but while an excellent drama, it’s a rather depressing tale, so I only watched that once. And he only has a cameo in All Men Are Brothers.

This movie was a star-making turn for Ti, for the acting and his great martial arts. Very entertaining.

The Imitation Game (2014)- excellent movie, thrilling in a subtle way, sad and disgusting, about a homosexual math genius who saved millions of lives in WWII.

What's more sad is it took the British decades and decades after his death to admit they were wrong. Saying millions and millions of lives is very likely an understatement, and I suspect the war would have raged on without him and other code breakers.

Haven't seen that movie for what it's worth. Benedict doesn't seem good outside of Sherlock based on what I've watched.

I just started watching that earlier tonight [oops last night, it's past my bedtime] and I'm liking it. So many actors in it that I have liked in their other performances (Downton Abbey, Atonement etc.). Wow, it's a weird feeling, like some kind of homecoming week at a school.

He seems pitch perfect for the Turing role (I'm roughly at halfway point in the movie).

Agreed as far as the decades it took to acknowledge his achievement and hopefully apologize. It just seems incredulous that after the War, because of the desire for secrecy, the code breakers were simply told good job, go home, and mums the word or we’ll execute or jail you. At least that is my impression. Not a shred of recognition for the momentous feat that was achieved, specifically because of Turing. Now I can’t pick on the UK more than anywhere else when it comes to historical homophobia.

Well, I like him as Sherlock, 12 Years a Slave, and Dr. Strange. Dr. Strange possesses a great confident personality, a bit like Sherlock and he does a great job with the yank accent. :)

"Herbert West Has A Very Good Head On His Shoulders... And Another One In A Dish On His Desk"
One of my go to films when I can't decide what I should watch. A tale about a medical student named Herbert West who has an obsession with being able to bring the dead back to life, his unwitting roommate and his girlfriend who become entangled in Herbert's experiments. West is superbly played by Jeffrey Combs, while Bruce Abbott and Barbara Crampton play the roommate and girlfriend, respectively.

It had been a while since I last watched this, and it's still a lot of fun. Sure, it's at times cheesy, the effects are good in a fun kind of way, and some of the acting is over the top, but put all of that together and you have a pretty great 90 minutes, though it's unfortunate that the film apparently cost David Gale his marriage due to a scene where he "interacts" with Barbara Crampton.

Fail Safe (1964) My favorite Cold War Nuclear War anti-tech movie. Was so glad I caught this again yesterday.
That movie was a real eye opener for a child of 11.. me. ;) :)

The Exception (2016)- Outstanding story about a German officer guarding Kaiser Wilhelm II living in exile in the Netherlands and a Jewish maid working in his household. Lily James, Jai Courtney, and Christopher Plummer have presences in this movie.

It's been many years since I've seen this, but the headless corpse of David Gale's doctor trying to walk around while carrying his head in a duffle bag was priceless. I still laugh thinking about that. Wow, I didn't know Gale's wife divorced him due to the moment with Ms. Crampton.

Not in a horror mood lately *unless you count Fail Safe*.

Top Secret with mom again. There are moments that utterly kill me.

Yeah, it really doesn't get much better than that. Classic stuff.

Apparently Mr. Gale wasn't that happy himself with what the role called for, but be it professionalism of bad judgement, he went through with it anyway. IMDb's trivia section mentions him saying he felt "spiritually bereft" while filming the sequence. The whole situation is apparently discussed on the commentary track, which is something I'll have to listen to sometime in the near future.

Thanks for this, my apartment is so hot at the moment that I can't sleep so I might as well laugh until I'm even more covered in sweat. Top Secret's going into the BD player now!

Sorry you’re dealing with this heat too. The miniature horse struck me as particularly funny this time around.

Did not know that about David Gale.

It really is. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I have yet to read the story the film is based on, but I'll get there. Eventually.

Right now The Blair Witch Project is on the TV in the background. I remember seeing this in the cinema when it premiered in late 1999, and am once again reminded how the time flies. The marketing campaign was really great, and the final shot of the film is something I'll always remember.
