The Elephant Man (1980) by David Lynch. This was the only Lynch movie that I'd never seen; I guess I was kinda "afraid" of it. What can I tell you? This is a poignant, wonderful, sad, elegant, masterfully crafted movie based on a true story. The production is Mel Brooks'; he loved the idea and the movie so much that not only he decided to remove his name from the production to avoid giving the wrong idea that it is a comedy, but he even helped Lynch in his numerous fights with Sir Anthony Hopkins (he didn't want an American to direct a British movie, and he thought that the movie was going to suck; he later apologized to Lynch). During the production Lynch's wife had a physical problem and the couple lost the two twins she was expecting. Mel Brooks paid all of Lynch's medical expenses and offered help.

Mulholland Drive (2001) by David Lynch. This is another masterpiece by Lynch, but it takes us to a more surreal level into the obsessions of love, the twisted desire of fame, and ultimately the meaning of death. This is the only film that gave me nightmares. Each time I see it, I find something new, I notice new things; I truly love it all of its aspects. Naomi Watts is simply INCREDIBLE in this movie. Highly recommended. My 17yo wanted to watch it with me, and after the first 30mins he told me he wasn't liking it that much; at the end of the movie he told me that it was one of the best movies he'd ever seen.

John Wick 3: Parabellum

Like its predecessors, minimal plot that sometimes doesn’t even make sense, and plenty of graphic mindless violence in some amazingly choreographed fight scenes. Decent cast with oddly unremarkable acting. But mainly I couldn’t stop thinking about why Keanu Reeves was running so weird.. maybe he has a bad knee? And I wonder how many stunts he performed himself.

I’d recommend it for a night when you just need to turn off your brain and waste a couple hours, but otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Just watched "Captive State". It's a really interesting SF movie/thriller/action flick. Didn't get great ratings, but it was a good flick. Twists and turns abound. I liked this one! Heck, it even caught my daughters attention and she usually bails on most TV and movies.

Eraserhead (1976) by David Lynch. This is Lynch's first full feature length movie; at the time he was a student, and it took him about 4 years to finish it. This is a true masterpiece of experimental cinema. It is reported that Kubrick fell in love with it.

Lucky (2017) by John Carrol Lynch. Truly a wonderful movie, poignant and funny at the same time. This is Harry Dean Stanton's last role, and the movie also features David Lynch. This movie describes the last year of life of a staunch atheists while he prepares for death. Very touching.

Nikolaj Arcel: The Dark Tower (2017)

Saw that this was on Netflix, and as a fan of Stephen King I figured I'd watch it. Wasn't all that good really. Actually it was pretty bad.

Nothing against Elba, McConaughey and Tom Taylor, they did a fine enough job with what they were given, but other than that I'm mostly glad this was only about 90 minutes.

Watched Midsommar yesterday.

Didn't know much about it, just that Ari Aster directed it and I loved Hereditary (horror movie from 2018).

It's not scary like his first movie but this is very gory and slow paced. There's a lot to take in with the cinematography as well.

Hopefully I can get myself to the theater to see this tomorrow! Heard really good things about it, and like you, I love Hereditary so my expectations are quite high.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride. This was also the first movie I've seen with Florence Pugh, she's fantastic. Her performance is top notch just like Toni Colette's in Hereditary.

Didn't get to see it just yet, hopefully sometime in the near future.

Instead of dragging my bones to the movies, I stayed in and rented a film on iTunes.

Adam Robitel: Escape Room (2019)

The premise is simple: Six people, strangers to each other, get invitations to participate in an escape room, and if they're able to solve the puzzles there's a 10.000 dollar prize. I'm not spoiling much by saying things don't exactly go as planned.

The film clearly owes a great deal to the Saw franchise, and even more than that I was constantly reminded of the classic Cube (1997), that had a very similar premise. Escape Room had a pretty good cast (with the highlight being Tyler Labine of the superb Tucker and Dale VS. Evil) with the predictable characters; there is the slacker, overachiever, the shy one, traumatized badass etc., but the actors do a fine enough job playing their parts.

All in all if you have a 100 minutes to spare, I guess you could do worse. Nothing to write home about, but serves it's purpose. The ending was a bit of a dissappointment, but it is what it is. Would I watch it again? No, I'd rather watch Tucker and Dale VS. Evil for the 20th or so time. Actually that's exactly what I'm going to do later today.

Shark Tale(2004)
Hasn't held up well..... and i didn't really like it when I first watched it many moons ago. Poor writing.... stellar cast tho.

Dare I say I found it mildly offensive with the ethnic stereotyping.

I watched it at the theatre. It's definitely an enjoyable waste of time, a movie I do not regret watching . However, the ending is as stupid as it can get.
Loved the Cube (and of course Tucker and Dale vs. Evil...).

Yes, agreed on this. The more I think about the last ~20 minutes, the more I'm starting to dislike them. I get why they went with that ending, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Oh well, like you said, enjoyable waste of time.

I've never actually been in an escape room, maybe I should try one of those out sometime.

Oh they are a lot of fun! I have been to five or six with my kids and wife. It's a great experience in my opinion, and a good "team building" game.

My wife and Grandkids went to see the new Lion King (2019). I swam at the Y, more than ready for them to head home, hopefully tomorrow. :) My question is why is this being advertised as "live action"? It's quite clearly CGI, every animal in it. I'll watch this maybe when it is released for streaming.

Is the new Lion King live-action or animated? That’s the wrong question.

Did you like it? All the reviews I read were BRUTAL.

The color grading on it is awful. Too drab to lure people in. I don't believe much changed script wise or scene wise. That said, Disney seems to be having a hit or bomb phase the last few years. Some films do well, some bomb.

They've been mostly killing it with the live (or "live") action remakes. Lion King looks positioned to be another win, did $23M at Thursday night previews, projected for a $190-200M opening weekend, already at $130M international.

I won't see it, even on free streaming, looks like an abomination and I'm not 5 :D
