It’s also one of those movies where the Plot is not clearly explained,

It's not clearly explained, or even written, or even known by the director ... :D

This and The Accountant have flown under my radar.
I will have to check them both out.

Skip the The Counselor, it's a trainwreck, wasted talent, nonsense plot, silly characters, I mean, it's like a cartoon wrapped up in some kind of stream of consciousness babble and almost totally random scene hooks. I have to keep saying to myself:

Ridley Scott made Alien and Blade Runner ...
Ridley Scott made Alien and Blade Runner ...

Given this almost undid all his positive karma.

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 35% based on 199 reviews, with an average rating of 5/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "The Counselor raises expectations with its talented cast and creative crew—then subverts them with a wordy and clumsy suspense thriller that's mercilessly short on suspense or thrills."

Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "D" on an A+ to F scale.

This probably has to be one of my ‘all-time’ favorite movies, I don’t have the opportunity to watch that many movies, but this one every time I watch it, I learn/see something new from the film. It’s basically about a story of a successful attorney (Michael Fassbender) who gets involved in a drug scheme to make a large amount of money, when things turn sideways when the drug shipment is hijacked.

It’s basically a movie about risk v.s. reward and those who you trust around you, and the consequences for our actions. The movie itself was not very well recepted, and to my surprise, many actually have not heard of it, considering it has an all-star cast with Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, and of course Brad Pitt, alongside Michael Fassbender.

It’s also one of those movies where the Plot is not clearly explained, but you almost have to watch it again to pick details you likely missed.

[Also, killer musical score by Daniel Pemberton.]

The truth has no temperature....”

Interesting, you're probably the only one (besides myself) that actually likes this film, at least based on my not so extensive research. It's a good one, I really should watch it again.

Just got home and it just so happened that I bought another copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey while out and about, the third version I now own of the film. I think this was the last one I'll buy, I love the film but enough is enough.

Let's see if the disc makes its way in to the spinner later tonight.

I remember ‘The accountant’, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it. Ben Affleck is a hit and miss for me, some movies he really nailed the role and other times he’s off some what. But I’ll have to watch this one again. Fun fact about me, I usually will watch movies twice, especially movies that has a lot of plot points where the story changes, I tend to pick up things a lot more the second time watching it again. I’ll definitely put this on my map.

A fellow Counselor Fan! Outstanding. 😁 I’ve probably seen that movie at least seven times, I would advise to probably avoid the ‘directors extended cut’, just watch the theatrical version [For those who haven’t watched it yet]. My favorite character actually was Westfray (Pitt), which I would’ve like to see some more on screen time with him, but there really is a lot of intricate dialogue between characters, but adds some pretty gruesome scenes towards the end. I don’t know what it is, but this movie totally works for me and I tend not to ‘like’ the other major blockbuster films that others gravitate towards.

Ip Man & Ip Man 2 - revisit.

My ignorance of 1930s China doesn't help, but this solidifies that while Donnie Yen is a superb martial artist (and a seemingly nice man irl), he is not an actor. He was okay in Rogue One, but when sharing the screen with more accomplished actors he just tanks.*

In IM2, old school fu fellas Sammo Hung, Lo Mang, Fan Sui Wong, and the late Fung Hak-On wove rings around Yen and the other contemporary actors in making their characters seem less 2D. To say nothing of their superb martial skills (Not including wirework, cgi, sped up camera).

Very disappointing overall.

Like Jet Li, I'll skip Yen's movies going forward unless he does something else with David Chiang. *Chiang's cameo in Kung Fu Killer was so wonderful. He stole the movie, yet was gracious enough to make sure Donnie Yen looked good acting-wise (and that is saying a lot given how consistently wooden Yen is).

Also Planet of the Apes (1968). For me, there are no other PotA movies. A perfect, done-in-one that is always engaging, fun and a great watch.

Why’d you shave off your beard? You look more primitive without it!

I like the fact it won an Oscar for the monkey outfits.

Watched about the first 20 minutes of Prospect but gave up on it.

A movie I really liked: The Man from the U.N.C.L.E it’s not the best movie from Guy Richie but it’s quiet enjoyable. I thought they were making a new one.

This would have done better had it not come out at the same time as Spy. Which was also funny, but different.

My favorite sports movie. It has become one of my annual rituals to celebrate the coming of fall. I suppose it's because the movie takes me back to fall semester in the mid-west. (One of my favorite soundtracks too)

Guy Richie blew it for me with his Sherlock Holmes. Now I’m suspect of all his movies. Aladdin was ok, but I suspect he was not given free reign by Disney. :)
I rewatched those back in May or June. I wish I hadn't and that my memory of them being alright remained firmly in its place.

Pluto TV (streaming) has set up a channel for all the Bond films.

I just saw the 1954 version of Casino Royale. It was okay but I thought the Danial Craig remake was better.

After getting an explanation of Baccarat, I think it was a very good idea to switch to Texas Hold'em for the remake.

It was strange to see an American Bond with everyone calling him "Jimmy".

One thing I thought was better in the original was the part of Le Chiffre.

Peter Lorre played the part and he did a much better job than Mads Mikkelsen in the remake.

Saw Hobbs and Shaw this past weekend. Nothing special in my opinion. I used to really like the whole Fast and Furious franchise, but now I'm not sure they should be making any more of these movies.

[OK, major disclaimer: Anything with Ray Liotta, I will watch it.] But this particular ‘cop movie’ is about investigating the death of an Officer and how the events transpired. I liked it overall, it’s fairly slow through about 2/3 of it, but towards the climax point, it has a really interesting ending. This is a really dark movie, and I think Ray Liotta did a great job of portraying someone who is very aggressive/angry and a side to him that you probably haven’t seen most of his movies. This is a really ‘dark-themed’ movie, also, it really does give you a good perspective of how dangerous Detroit really in various neighborhoods that a L.E. Officer would have to Venture in. It was a ‘good movie’, but not great.

This is one of Cameron’s geniusly entertaining movies that perfectly blends great action and humor without taking itself seriously.
Agree. Perfect mix.

If your going to watch an old version of Casino Royale, make it this one for the music alone!

Downton Abbey (2019). I really liked it, it's a good continuation of the already good TV series.

AHAHAHAHA now THAT'S a weird, twisted, comedy movie. From production (with multiple directors fighting and leaving), to screenplay (w/ a young Woody Allen), to acting (Orson Welles), to plot (can't be described).
Everybody is James Bond...

Cold Pursuit (2019)- I usually like Liam Neeson and I liked him in this, but the movie which could of been pretty good with interactions between two groups of drug dealers was squandered by poor execution. Neeson who is supposed to be a regular guy, walks in, manner of factly, grabs bad guys beats the **** out of them, kills them, then moves to the next guy, no suspense, no adverse odds.

I don’t remember seeing this advertised for the theater. Unfortunately, I think Neeson has sold out, Pay me and I’ll make your movie. Not helping is since Taken, (which I really enjoyed), he possible has been type cast into these type of macho roles, although he’s not quite as macho in this as he was in Taken, where he kicked ass all over the place! :) 😕

It's __kind__ of supposed to be a bit campy, and darkly funny, it's actually a remake of the Norwegian film, In Order of Disappearance, that was absolutely played as a black comedy, some of that got "lost in translation" :D
