Knockaround Guys [2002]
61BDD8CA-5C2B-4F7F-82B1-0A2E2B61F2BD.jpeg

This is a straightforward Contemporary mobster movie with a decent cast. Personally, this is my favorite movie with Vin Diesel, as he really does show his gritty side on a legit ‘tough guy level’. The plot is easy to follow, Decent ‘turn’ towards the end of the movie, but enjoyable, but a movie most probably haven’t heard of this one. John Malkovich stars in this one, which I thought he did an excellent job.

{Quick plot: So, some money is lost, and a crew (pictured above in movie poster) has to head out west to find that money With a time limit, but they run into a few issues Along the way.}

Just watched 1917 (2019, 88% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Rating) an outstanding film. The mission, send two soldiers on foot to get a vital message to a British company about to launch an attack against the Germans which is a trap set up by the Germans. Fictional characters based on real war stories. Good human interest mixed with the horrors of war, and the story flows along through the muck and the gore.

The single most interesting feature of this movie is the unique cinematography, in what appears to be one long shot for the entire movie. I’m positive it was not one long shot, but it appears so, just fantastic. And the backgrounds, how did they film this? Seemingly miles of war torn landscape, my guess much seamless CGI was employed

'1917' MOVIE: HOW DIRECTOR SAM MENDES MADE HIS 'ONE-SHOT' WAR FILM

Rather than filming in a real unbroken shot, something that would be all but impossible with a film that covers so much ground, the film is actually made up of a selection of extended slots, carefully choreographed to appear like an unbroken shot once they are digitally stitched together.

"Welcome to Marwen" Man, Steve Carell is such a great actor. This movie was not easy to watch, but incredible. I don't love it, but experienced it. So sorry for the real guy.

Reservoir Dogs(1992)
Had to revisit this fantastic unique film to see if it was still my favorite Tarantino flick. Great cast, acting, script, directing, editing.

PS> it is now my second favorite Tarantino film.

The restaurant scene when they’re arguing about tipping the waitress, was by far the most hil-ar-ious part in the whole movie. Steve Buscemi couldn’t have played it better. As a matter of fact, I think I’ll watch that one tonight on my new Samsung QLED😁.

In some minimal ways 1917 almost feels like Apocalypse Now as if it becomes a surreal experience. This comment should be considered an exaggeration, but I think as compared to normal living, war would be a surreal experience, except it’s not, it’s a real life horror story.

So I watched both the contagion and outbreak back to back. People who’ve watched both of them, which one do you like better and why?

been on a movie bing lately

1917 - I thought it sucked
Midway (new one) not as goos as the old one but not bad actually I expected crap and it wasn’t that
The Hunt - weird move, short, lots of action, did I say weird
the invisible man - this one was better than I thought it was going to be....
Birds of Prey - not impressed, and I loved Harley Quinn in suicide squad.

Contagion by a good margin. It's more chilling, the POVs feel more realistic, the dialog is tight (very typical Soderbergh), I like (in a scary way) it's such a simple environmental change (manmade ...), that triggers the infection (and that it's nicely disclosed as an epilog). Outbreak is all 'splosions, it's Petersen channelling M. Bay, all the conspiracy stuff + ending action scenes seem a bit silly, the character interaction is good, but those quiet moments can't match Contagion.

Watched "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" last night. I cannot say that I was impressed. It was like the "Seinfeld" equivalent of a movie. It was kind of an alt-history of of the Manson murders, (with an amusing divergence from the actual events) but, all in all, it was kind of a disappointment. Not Tarantino at his best. Lots of familiar faces, though and I guess that was something.

I am normally for war movies, I just wasn't impress with this one. story was good thought the acting wasnt that great but again thats just my opinion.
If I was comparing two soldier dying scenes, I’d say Saving Private Ryan was more dramatic, but I think different people would react to their end differently. I really felt like I was on a nightmarish journey with the characters and the way it was filmed, walking beside them, the dialog kept me ingaged. It impressed me, but thank goodness we all don’t like the same thing. :)

The way I see both of those movies, they’re both from different time periods. If you look at ‘Outbreak’, it was extremely popular when it released in 1995, but if you watch it today, you can see how dated and extremely artificial it overplays every scene, where it’s kind of comical. However, I will say one of the scenes in Outbreak that is very realistic, is the sense of how something can spread so easily like being in the midst of a movie theater with a hundred spectators, which is what we’re seeing today why certain venues are shut down for that very reason.

Now, Contagion is from a different time era [Fast forward 16 years later Post ‘Outbreak’], that seems more modernized in terms of making you believe that ‘this could happen’ to us in this day and age (Mainly Due to some of the advancements we have with infrastructure, health/medicine, etc.). I also think that it manifests a sense of realism from the actor that portrays the movie, Matt Damon was a key piece to the success of this film, because we [As the viewer] have to believe that the character makes you believe you could endure something of this magnitude in today’s society.

Contagion is the much more realistic film, and less of a "Hollywood" movie.

Both the director and writer wanted it to be realistic, and consulted technical advisers who are well-respected, and have been in the news lately (including getting infected with C-19).

The scenes in the latter part of Outbreak involving the military struck me as hokey even when watching it on 2005.

Soderbergh also did a sobering take on the drug trade, with Traffic.

Outbreak(1995)
Story wise, the "outbreak" itself was sortof the backdrop for "military politics/drama" and "romance".... which was disappointing. Generally well acted. Not a fan of Donald Sutherland tho.

Overall.... meh.
