Ironman (2008)- This is a good franchise, portraying a brilliant, rich, egotist, hedonist, and philanthropist, Tony Stark. Although this story starts when he’s already wealthy, this first movie serves as an Ironman origins story, how he got a hole in his chest, developed the suit, and attained a new perspective about being an arms dealer as his legacy.

Although Don Cheadle does a good job as Rhodey in later movies, I prefer Terrance Howard in this movie. Jeff Bridges is an excellent bad guy. S.H.I.E.L.D. gets involved. :)

Critique: Flying into the ground at a great speed in a primitive metal suit would kill the average mortal human being, but not Tony, just accept what your eyes see... 😝

Just finished watching - Gods of Egypt.

I’d give it a 2/5 stars. It’s a movie you’d potentially like if you’ve got nothing better to watch.

Fast and Furious [2001]

This movie hits home with me on many levels. The first being, this was the movie that started my passion for sports cars, I saw this back when I was in high school. Right after I Watched the movie, I went out and purchased my first white Mustang GT (New Edge body style).

And by tradition, I just finalized a new performance car purchase recently, [Haven’t taken delivery yet], but I always like to watch this movie, as it kind of gets me excited for the new car experience coming.

Now, back to the movie itself. Actually, it’s really not that good of a movie in terms of gimmicky dialogue, some of the CGI is terrible, the acting is kinda laughable at times, but overall, it really is a true street racing movie in terms of where the F&F has Changed to more of an ‘action hero’ type movie currently. I really would like to see a director revamp the F&F to its roots and bring it back to what it once was, even though Paul walker can’t be a part of it unfortunately.

Totally agree. The current F&F is so far removed from this original it should just have a different name!

Watched this one this morning. Not a big fan and far too long, but finished of the series (hopefully!).

For myself, Infinity War was good, End Game was weak due to it’s heavy reliance on time travel to resolve the story.

Time travel stories require suspension of disbelief, and some work well enough, but this case is too hard to swallow where they not only change the past, but remove arguably the most significant objects in the Universe from the past, pulling them to the future.

I don’t care what anyone says but 3 groups of Avengers going back taking stones and later putting the stones backs exactly where they were taken from at the precise time does not make an excuse to explain how that as soon as they were taken, the future they returned to for the End Game fight would not have been changed so dramatically that they might not have been able to return, as in did Bruce Banner have any reason to make a time machine? A timeline where 3 Infinity Stones were missing (If I recall the number correctly). And in other time machine stories, the time machine itself goes back with them, is not left in the future, so there. :p

Or Captain America staying in the past. How does that not change time?
But I’m not a big Marvels fan. They are okay, but they relay too much on a formula and there are too many of them. Just another bunch of executives trying to milk the cow.

Regarding Captain America, exactly!

In defense of these Marvel movies/TV series, they all do have source material although in many, if not all cases what you see in these stories has little resemblance to the source material. However, some good has appeared depending on how much you enjoy the genre. My partial short list of the best:
  • Original Spider-Man 1&2.
  • Original X-Men 1&2- everything is jumbled as compared to the comics.
  • All 3 Thors. (No.2 was the weakest)
  • Both Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • Daredevil (the TV series).
  • Jessica Jones Season 1.
  • Legion Season 1- amazing television.

Agree on the Toby McGuire Spider-Man. Was much better imo.
Also the original X-men movies.

The Wrong Missy. I'm not a huge David Spade fan, but this was a fun, naughty romp. Purely juvenile, but I laughed a lot.

What movie have you seen and more importantly was it any good? :)

Watched Shutter Island, a psychological thriller. It just did not click for me. Without giving the story away, it took a turn I did not expect, which is not necessarily bad, but the execution was below my expectations.

On the other hand we just finished up the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the umpteenth time. You don't see epics like this very often. :)

If you ever wondered how they made 6' tall actors hobbit size, besides using short doubles for long shots, this is another method- forced perspective.

Swiss Army Man. One of the weirdest! They just keep building weirdness and keep chugging.

Just finished watching Killer Elite. Jason stratham is kicking in with some hardcore punches. It’s a good action movie for a chilled evening in as I see it. Nothing to write home about but it’s based on a true story. So worth a watch I say.

There was no other authenticated Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire. It was his meek and mild personality that really separated him not from just being a ‘superhero‘, but showing the realism of a character that didn’t have any confidence before he became Spiderman. The new Peter Parker with Tom Holland, it doesn’t fit, at all (I blame the poor direction of his character, not just his acting). He is overly dramatic with his consistent snarky joking and it seems more juvenile, where as Tobey Maguire made the role see more mature of a young man becoming Spiderman. I think that was Stan Lee’s vision of how Spiderman was always meant to be.

Seriously, there are just some rolls in superhero movies where actors are made for certain parts, a.k.a. Hugh Jackman—>Wolverine, Robert Downey Jr.—>Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth—>Thor.

Timeline (2003)- 11% Critic/45% RTAS- hammered! Somehow I can accept and like the story even with the time travel paradox, 😁😷

Michael Clayton [2007]

This is one of those movies that George Clooney did not see enough recognition And in most cases, was never even heard of.

In short: George Clooney’s character, ‘Michael Clayton’ works for a legal firm that covers up wrongdoings/mishaps/criminal mischief, etc. It’s illustrated perfectly in terms of those who accrue power and wealth that can use certain people to the best of their abilities to conceal wrong-doings.

Great cast with Tom Wilkinson, Tilda Swinton, and an amazing cameo appearance with Denis O’Hare. (The musical score is composed by James Newton Howard, who in my opinion, is on the level of Hans Zimmer.)

As someone in the law sector, I can tell you this movie depicts the raw reality of corruption/politics that happens every day, you just don’t hear about it at a local level.

Anyways...

One of my favorite lines in the whole movie, George Clooney‘s character is talking to a potential client in the beginning of the movie in a kitchen about assisting in a ‘hit-and-run case’, the phone rings at the clients home and the client says “I assume that’s the police calling“, George Clooney says, “That’s not the police, the police don’t call, they just show up.”

^ Yes, that is so true, the police don’t call, they’re at your front door before you know it.😁

Yes to Michael Clayton. I watch it every six months or so because of the casting, excellent acting, and the very tight writing. One of my all-time favorites.
