Watched The Train starring Burt Lancaster, a good black and white movie, about the French railroad workers sabotaging the German war efforts. Mr. Lancaster was a very good athlete, doing many of his own stunts in his movies.

Gladiator (2000)- 87% RTAS. I walked out of this movie at the theater and said Best Picture! One of my good guesses. Russel Crowe in his prime, his best performance in a movie. Oliver Reed is outstanding too. :)

Are you not entertained!?

Anton Corbijn's A Most Wanted Man (2014), based on John le Carré's espionage novel set in a post-9/11 Hamburg. This film was the last one starring Philip Seymour Hoffman that was both completed and premiered (at Sundance) before the actor's death.

Oooh ooh le Carré! Excellent choice. I recently rewatched this too and am a huge le Carré book fan. What a great final role for Hoffman. I live where winters are long and like to spend them rereading his books and watching the film versions. I also like the adaptation of Our Kind of Traitor, but really I'll watch everything from Spy Who Came In From The Cold forward and find it fun to do both the books and adaptations chronologically. I cringed a bit at the Tinker Tailor remake though, and was only able to watch that version once.

I agree Russell Crowe was in his ‘Prime’ physically for Gladiator, and that probably was the highlight of his career and still is probably one of the most significant movies in the box office in the last 20 years.

There was a podcast not that long ago talking about Russell Crowe and why we don’t really see him that much on the main screen anymore, and it was commented that he’s actually one of the most difficult male actors to work with, where he’s sparred with many directors and other actors actors/actresses won’t sign on the film if he is starring in it.

For those who don’t know who Chelsea Handler is, she had her own talk show an ‘E news‘ years ago, and I remember watching one night and she commented on Russell Crowe talking about how he was an absolute jag off to her producers, Where he wouldn’t even make a guest appearance on her show without meeting certain criteria.

I’m not bashing Russell Crowe, as I do think he’s a very good actor, but it’s unfortunate when you have such talented actor that is snowballed into a poor reputation with his poor candor. The only other male actor that has the reputation that he does, was Val Kilmer.

Thanks guys for bringing up Russel Crowe. For the longest time I've been meaning to rewatch Michael Mann's The Insider (1999), which in my opinion has the best work Crowe has delivered on the silver screen. Now if I can only locate the DVD I should be good to go...

Ironman (2008)- This is a good franchise, portraying a brilliant, rich, egotist, hedonist, and philanthropist, Tony Stark. Although this story starts when he’s already wealthy, this first movie serves as an Ironman origins story, how he got a hole in his chest, developed the suit, and attained a new perspective about being an arms dealer as his legacy.

Although Don Cheadle does a good job as Rhodey in later movies, I prefer Terrance Howard in this movie. Jeff Bridges is an excellent bad guy. S.H.I.E.L.D. gets involved. :)

Critique: Flying into the ground at a great speed in a primitive metal suit would kill the average mortal human being, but not Tony, just accept what your eyes see... 😝

A great movie, probably my favorite in the mcu.

Very few ‘space sci-fi films‘ have a very dark Plot to them. This movie is one of those films. George Clooney plays the role of a psychologist that is assisting crewmembers on a space Station determine what’s causing a strange phenomenon with visitors that are replicating the actual crew members. It’s actually kind of difficult to explain this movie, but it’s intertwined of a mystery and love story, but with dark nuances.

But when you watch this movie, the musical score (Composed by Cliff Martinez) is so powerful, it literally will reel you in on certain sequences that are climax points that Just fits the whole ‘outer space aura’.

Edit: Title/Date.

On one hand, this is the most ridiculous movie I've ever seen. "Suspend Disbelief: The Movie" might be an alternate title. But somehow it worked and I very much enjoyed the ride. Makes me want to see the other Fincher movies I have not seen.

A film I’ve probably seen 4 or 5 times in the last 20 years and enjoyed it every time

Huh, I've never heard of this one before. I'm going to check it out.

Bad Lucky Goat. Don't ask. Actually it was okay. Even the goat was okay.

Liz, you might be interested in Goat Simulator! ;)😜

Please report back. George Clooney is an obstacle to overcome. ;)

I dig on Clooney well enough, and it was directed by Soderbergh, check, check. However, it's a bit ponderous, I like "cerebral" sci-fi, but it's tough source material (I've read the original Stanislaw Lem novel, though have not seen the first Solaris movie made in 1972). It's not particularly "dark" as described above, in fact, one might say the idea of letting the past go, forgiving yourself over (what you interpret as) your own failings, you wind up being "rewarded" (which isn't dark at all, in fact, in writing it, sounds like pretty positive christian allegory).

Did I see "waste of space" actually float past me in that trailer?!

ROFL. Yes I did! Had to watch the trailer again to make sure.

(ok then... hard pass). 💸 ⚖ 📉 🥀

My next venture into a pal-recommended movie was supposed to be "Along Came Polly". I didn't think it was my kinda movie but I looked up the trailer and now I'm sure I was right about that.

So I'm moving on to the next pal's emailed recco. This one looks way more promising, not least because it's a tried and true re-watch. Cool Hand Luke is up for a viewing tonight off my DVD.
