Basic Instinct [1992]
View attachment 973635

As much as this movie has been talked about in the past, I never saw it until last night for the first time. Notation: It’s extremely pornographic, even more so than most films today (Almost a sex noir), with quite a few scenes that actually were surprisingly allowed to make its way into the movie theater. That said, I actually chose this movie not for those reasons😁, but I’m a huge fan of Michael Douglas, [I like His consistent Acting style with his cynicism and ‘all business‘ approach in most of his movies.]

This was Sharon Stones only second major role, (Total recall being the first), and I always pictured her to be kind of crazy in real life ....(Which she actually is), and this movie really portrays her to be a crazy murdering-sex fiend, so I think they chose perfect for someone like herself. (And of course, lets not forget ‘Casino’.)

Anyways, Sharon Stones character is suspected of murder, and Michael Douglas is a detective who is infatuated with her, but also trying to prove her guilt.

Decent movie, very provocative, but for a film dating back to 1992, I liked it.
I saw this at the cinema when it came out. Yes it was pretty racey as I recall. I don’t think I’ve seen it since though.

I’ve brought up this movie before, But if I had to suggest one movie to watch in the dark that instills legitimate fear, this would be it. The musical score is on par that is equally what makes this movie so good. The premise of the movie is about a group of female friends that endeavor on a spelunking trip in a cave, only to find out they’re not alone.

I know we all have our own definition what’s ‘scary‘ when it comes to movies, this one is #1 on my list and it’s completely underrated, [most of who have never heard of this movie]. If there’s a Halloween movie you’re gonna watch this year, put this one on and you’ll see why.
If you watch this movie, try and get the Australian version. It has an extended ending which makes much more sense than the US ending. I remember reading that they clipped the end for US audiences because it was too “visceral of a ride” for us here in the US. Excellent movie!

I didn’t realize that the same director did “Dog Soldiers”. If it’s the movie I’m thinking of, that was also very good. It been a long time since I’ve seen Dog Soldiers - I may have to rent it to see if it’s as gritty as I remember 😎

The Wicker Man (1973) directed by Robin Hardy. Wow! Fantastic, incredible, and yet disturbing movie. This movie can be easily seen as the inspiration for Midsommar (2019). I’d say that The Wicker Man is a perfect 1970’s movie. Highly recommended

Now, that is a fun fact I didn’t know about the AU version. Such a great movie in so many respects, but I can’t say it enough, the musical score emphasizes such distress at the right times coupled with the fear of the monsters living in the caves, how could you not be scared watching this movie? It’s literally that good. And I would never say that about just any movie that is in the horror genre.

If any one out there is claustrophobic, the whole closed-in feeling of the movie will be amplified...

Needed a break from Italian horror, so I revisited the debut of my favorite Italian gunslinger, Sartana.

If You Meet Santana, Pray For Your Death

A clip of Gianni Garko saying Sartana’s famous line: I am your Pallbearer

(just picked up the remaing two Sartana films with Gianni Garko as the title character too.)

I wish they kept the ghostly vibe he had in this movie. Sartana is a charming, gambling gunslinger who outsmarts the bad guys and gets away with government gold. Of course, seeing how he does this is all of the fun.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)- The first movie in The Marvel Infinity Stone Saga. Johan Schmitt head of Hydra locates the Tesseract in a church in Norway. The product of genetic engineering, Captain America fights Hydra the scientific division of Hitler’s Army in WWII.

Recently my large extended family watched at least 20 of the Marvel/Avenger series in a month's period to honor a young family member who died and was a big fan. We had a month-long schedule so we could all watch on the same night "together". It was my first time through and I was enthralled! It was so much fun and great way to remember a beloved young one.

Watched a documentary called Hell House last night about a fundamentalist Christian Church that puts on a Haunted House every year called Hell House. Its a little disturbing....

Reading this made me tear up a little. I'm very sorry for your loss and what an excellent way to honor your loved one who passed. Positive vibes to you and your family and I'm sorry for your loss.

Watched On The Rocks on Apple TV+ with Bill Murray (❤️) and Rashida Jones, directed by Sofia Coppola. It light, funny, and delightful. I'd watch it again too.

Dude, you and I could spend weekends watching movies, we truly have similar tastes.

Truer words never spoken. Alas, things being how they are tossing around ideas to watch on this forum works too!

Was looking for Carnival of Souls earlier today, and found it on Youtube of all places! Need to bookmark, and watch when not half asleep.

Let me know what you think about it, hopefully you'll like it as much as I did.

On a different note, I have to admit that getting Criterion Channel was a great idea.

Since I just read the book, we rewatched Red Sparrow (2018) and it’s actually better than the book concerning a primary plot element that they knew would surprise all those who had read the book. :) Thumbs up!

One vital aspect of the character is her ability to see most things in swirling colors in her world including the intent and honesty of people which is just fleetingly referenced in the movie.

My critique of the movie is that the story is more compressed and the 2 primary characters don’t feel like they have the same connection as in the book, which is not uncommon. The Swan episode was richer not rushed as in the movie. The evil character feels much more evil in the book, and the fight in the book between him and them is correagraphed completely differently, with me preferring the book fight.

28 Days Later [2013]

When dealing with a worldwide pandemic, I could never imagine dealing with anything on the level this movie portrays with such a violent virus. It Makes me wonder if there’s something if this actually has potential to breach and push our communities out of civilization, but nonetheless; it’s just a movie, right?.😁

The acting, the scenery and the severity behind such a virus how it instills fear into you a way that isn’t just ‘scary’, but leaves you thinking. To me, that’s what makes a scary movie after it’s ended, leaving an impact on your thoughts.

{The sequel ‘28 Weeks later’ is also very good that has Jeremy Renner and Rose Byrne, which I highly recommend.}

Overlord (2018)- WWII/horror story about a mission to knock out a German radio tower on D-Day and the soldiers on the mission discover a lab experimenting to make super soldiers, but the formula (to make the the soldiers) and the screenplay needs some work. Starts off like a traditional WWII feeling movie, gets very (holy crap) energetic, and then slides into the horror genre. No desire to see this again.

Captain Marvel (2019)- Working my way back though the Marvel Infinity Stone Saga. I designated this as the 2nd movie in this saga.

This movie is so good because of:
  • The Kree-Skrull conflict.
  • A Human interest, Skrull interest story of suffering and hope.
  • The misdirection and discovery in this story
  • The self discovery of the possession of pure power.
  • The origins and source of the Avengers name and the Avengers Initiative.
  • A young Nick Fury and Agent Coulson digitally created.
  • The creation of the most powerful Avenger, someone so powerful only a being equipped with one or more Infinity Stones could beat her.
My desire: To see the showdown between Kree, The Supreme Intelligence and Captain Marvel. It should be no contest.
