Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
View attachment 1082390
If you enjoy slow paced horror/Sci-Fi Beyond the Black Rainbow might be just for you. Yet another highly polarising film that will either blow your mind or completely turn you off. Has a strong 70's vibe with a unique & surreal visual style. Personally I enjoyed, as it's a film the makes you think, well beyond the confines of the screen...

It's not perfect by any means, yet a lot better than much of the spoon-fed garbage frequently served up today.

Q-6

The soundtrack is sublime. Admittedly I've forgotten much of the film itself but the stuff I do remember makes me want to watch it again. Soon.

--

@yaxomoxay I gave up on Carnival of Souls on Youtube. Just... No. Really bad audio, network issues, yada yada.

Did you stream it? A physical copy? I still very much want to watch it, but I can't find it anywhere! That, or I'm just not that good at this stuff.

Just watched the trailer(s). Looks super trippy. Like kind of a mind (fill in the blank with expletive..)

This one will require my full attention..😁

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)- 91% RTAS. I saw this in the theater. What an outstanding story, fantasy mingles with the brutality of the Spanish Civil War with a real human villain. Three Academy Awards. In Spanish with sub-titles.

I was in awe the first time I saw this. It's an amazing work. That said, knowing what happens I don't think I could watch it again.

Jackie Brown [1997]

You either like Quinton Tarantino’s directing style or you hate it. Most of his films resonate really well with me and ‘Jackie Brown‘ has to be a movie I’ve watched at least a half a dozen times. It’s just such a brilliant script and acting from such an extensive cast with Michael Keaton, Robert De Niro, Samuel Jackson, Chris Tucker, Robert Forster, etc.

Before I Divulge into the plot, [and one last point about Quentin Tarantino’s films], I think what really helps the success of his movies, is if you look at the past trajectory of all his work, most of the cast members for his films don’t usually have just ‘one major’ movie star, they include four or five major actor/actresses, which really helps with the dynamic of the movie and how successful his films are with most-matched Personalities, especially when have such strong performances from the most well-known actors in the world.

The movie itself is really about setting up a score for a large amount of money and how all the actors kind of mesh together to set up a plan how the heist unfolds.

But the last thing I want to say, is what really makes it move unique, is the dark sense of humor from Samuel Jackson’s character mixed with a character like Robert De Niro who has very few lines in the movie, yet somehow this movie ends up being kind of a suspense all in the same respect with the plot. It really is a ‘mixed bag‘ of a lot of things, but such an amazing movie I can’t say enough good words about it in just this post.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)- 83% RTAS. The Mind Stone, Black Widow, Capt America, Hawkeye, The Hulk, Iron Man, Quick Silver, Scarlet Witch, Thor, and Vision. The best Hulk- Big Iron Man fight. I liked it.

It’s too bad they made Quick Silver a one movie character.

Where did this AI found in Loki’s sceptre, that he got from Thanos/The Others come from? Now granted it could be that this was much more than Tony Stark realized it could be and it surprised him, but the whole idea of oh look an alien AI, let’s use it for something, instead of studying it for 10 years, seemed a bit rushed. Now it can argued, Tony got in over his head, not realizing the abilities of this AI program.

I’m a sucker for epics, and had forgotten this one, so thought i’d watch it again today.... and while watching it i realized why i’d forgotten it.
It’s rare to find a movie so out of sync and with no redeemable qualities; and i tried to like it.
Weak script, shallow performances, unimpressive soundtrack. IMHO

The main characters all seemed to have English/Scottish/Irish accents which seemed out-of-place/strange(for me).

Raging Bull [1980]

This was my first time watching ‘Raging bull’ with Robert De Niro. Honestly, I really didn’t know what to expect, as I know it’s intended to be a ‘documentary‘ filmed in black-and-white. But I was blown away how violent this movie is, and I don’t mean just in a ‘physical way‘ from a boxing standpoint, I mean in a way that Robert De Niro‘s character harbors so much anger and destructive behavior, it’s hard to imagine somebody living like this. I know the movie doesn’t really touch on this purposely, but the mental issues that De Niro’s character struggles with Extreme anxiety, narcissism, Paranoia, depression, the list goes on.... It Really goes to show you that some have to seek some type of mental health assistance, otherwise it destroys the values and livelihood around you, which is exactly what this movie portrays.

Martin Scorsese as we all know is a legend, and this is an excellent film. And the black-and-white setting does an excellent job trying to capture that time frame back from the late 1940s/1950s.

Ant Man (2015)- Dr Pym, the Pym Particle, Dr Pym used to work for Stark Industries, but he did not want to unleash this dangerous technology on the world. An excellent story, with humor featuring in passing Howard Stark, Falcon, Shield, and Hydra. A great example where an actor, not the lead, Michael Douglass can take center stage, be a force on screen.

Cujo(1983)
Read the book a long, long time ago. This movie was "light horror" and more thriller. I thought the scenes with the dog looked great; couldn't tell if it was a real dog or special effects. My nostalgia was pleased with the campy 80s vibe :).

How did I totally miss this one out of my 30-day Halloween line-up?! Well, I’ll just deflect the blame on you for not posting this earlier.😁

Such a great movie and the trapped car scene is loaded with tension.
