Black Butterfly [2017]
FCAEE619-91AB-4CA4-BA6F-EA4B334AA260.jpeg

This is one of the few movies that actually has at least three or four major plot twists versus just one like the typical ‘thriller’ movies. I liked it, it’s good, but not great and it’s most definitely not realistic in the sense that you feel that this ‘could actually happen’. It’s about a man (Antonio Banderas) who is an alcoholic and struggling writer, living in a town that has a series of abductions occurring, and he finds a drifter that he befriends, which ends up spider webbing into some interesting paths.

The only reason I watched this, was it has Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who I think is a great actor. (See: Match point w/Scarlett Johansson.)

Anyways, if you like movies they keep you guessing ‘when you think you have it figured out and then you realize you don’t’, I would highly suggest this film. Like I said, it’s not great, but not bad, it’s in between, but definitely will keep you hooked long enough to enjoy it.

After David Prowse's sad death and reading Carrie Fisher's splendid The Princess Diarist book, Ive gone back and watched, for the first time in a long time, all three of the original Star Wars films. I've had the Blu-Ray box set for a long time but never got round to watching it all. You know what? it's all bloody good stuff. Splendid.

Oh man, makes me want to do the same thing.

judge judy is going to do a full length movie

I was curious so I did some quick research. I see nothing corroborating this, her CBS TV show (Judge Judy) ends next year after a 25 year run, and then she's starting a new show, that sounds like, more or less, the same thing, on Amazon/IMDB - from Wikipedia:

Judy Justice is an upcoming American reality court show hosted by Judge Judy Sheindlin. The series will serve as a direct successor program to Judge Judy, as Sheindlin announced the end of her contract from CBS at the end of the 2020–2021 season.[1] The show will air on Amazon's ad-supported IMDb TV with a to-be-announced date and time.

The Sum of All Fears(2002)
Didn’t like it as much as Patriot Games(1992) and Clear and Present Danger(1994), and i think it’s because of the actor playing the starring role, which is a real shame considering all the other performances were really good.
IMHO Harrison Ford owns the role of Jack Ryan, Ben Affleck.... not so much. Otherwise, it was a pretty good action-thriller-espionage movie.

81 years old. Prelude. Intermission. Musical exit. 4 hours long. #6 on AFI's list of the best movies of the last 100 years. Totally engaging. Don't make them like this anymore.

Now with disclaimers:

The Town [2010]

One of my other favorite movies of all time is ‘Heat’ with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, and if if you like movies where there’s heists and scores involved, you absolutely have to see ‘The Town’. That’s all I need to say about the plot.

However, When I consider Ben Affleck as an actor, I like him in a lot of roles (He makes a great Bruce Wayne, but terrible Batman, he was amazing in ‘Gone girl’), and I also dislike him in quite a few of his movies (His Comedies are straight abysmal). But what’s unique about the movie ‘The Town’, not also is Affleck the main star, but he also directed the movie, [which his upbringing primarily his whole life is from Boston]. And to say the least about ‘The Town’ is a perfect 10.

But it doesn’t just stop with Ben Affleck, the entire movie cast is great, but my key opinion on the success of this movie actually surrounds John Hamm, (who plays the FBI lead investigator in the movie), and he just nails his role of being cunning, concise and formidable. I never really cared for John Hamm, until I saw his performance in this film. He’s that good.

Also, Jeremy Renner is excellent, Blake Lively has a smaller role, but she’s good, and Rebecca Hall (See Transcendence and ‘The Prestige’.)

From start to finish, this movie delivers on every angle, and props to Ben Affleck for his directing style and the cast that made it possible.

The 12th Man (2017)- Alternate title: You’ll Never Feel Warm Again. The true WWII story of the lone Norwegian survivor of a failed saboteur mission to Norway on the run from the Germans trying to escape to Sweden with the help of inspired countrymen and women. Long and painful to watch, but it held my interest. Foreign language, turn the subtitles on.

Great recommendation. Watched this last night. Fast paced and tense with great acting by everyone. At the halfway point it becomes apparent how committed to the role Thomas Gullestad was. Just a bonkers story of survival. Highly recommend this movie. It’s available on Netflix in the U.S.

I watched Wall Street (1987) last night. I invest in the Stock Market and after seeing films like The Big Short and Wolf of Wall Street, I wanted to see another stock trading type movie. It was decent, if a little dated. The movie is commenting on greed of wall street, yet today we have so many people now invested thanks to sites like Robinhood.

I do as well. I’d also recommend the follow-up ‘WallStreet:Money Never sleeps’. Not as tapped into to trading, but more into the network of banking. Solid film.

I finally got around to watch Tenet this weekend. Great cinematography, very dynamic audio track, but the movie/story... meh. I'd like my 2 1/2 hours back.

Bronson [2008]

I’m not from Britain., however; Charles Bronson is not someone I would ever want to cross paths with. The movie basically depicts his upbringing and his confinement in prison and how violent of an individual he was with his anger issues and overall extreme mental conditions.

Tom Hardy does a great job portraying a legit psychopath in the movie. Hardy actually got to meet/interview with Charles Bronson in real life, even trying as much as physically looking like him by putting on substantial muscle for the film.

The Director Nicolas winding Refn is also the same Director behind the movie ‘Drive’ (<—One of my personal favorites) and ‘Only God Forgives’ with Ryan Gosling.

This was one of the worst films I've seen in awhile. I started to read the novel when it came out way back in the mid/late '80's and I couldn't finish. Honestly, I couldn't even get started very well, I got maybe 50 pages in before I had to put it down. It was written well enough the story just didn't grab hold of me.

IMHO the director seemed to think that certain backstories to the plot would be filled in and if they weren't we'd be ok without them. As if we'd simply say, "OK this is how it is..." and move on. Add weak character development to that and pfft...

ROTTEN TOMATOES:

"Winter's Tale
tries to retain the grandiose sweep of its source novel, but fails to fill it in with characters worth rooting for or a sensible plot.
