Brawl in cell Block 99 [2017]

I never really envisioned Vince Vaughn to be a ‘serious role’ type of actor, more on the comedic side of things. But this movie blew me away how good it was. Vince Vaughn‘s character is sentenced to prison, where he is forced to engage in violent acts to help protect his wife from being murdered, Who is being held hostage.

The different stages of violence in this movie, just screams Quentin Tarantino type-violence. I really thought the fight scenes were straight brutal, yet enjoyable to the point where you just want to see more of it.

This movie has been in my backlog to watch for a while, and I’m glad I did, it has its moments where you laugh, and then you’re just in awe of the unexpected violence that goes to an extreme in a prison-like-setting, but the whole movie was really well done.

Enjoy!

I just looked this movie up on Wikipedia and it sounds interesting but also a little too brutal for me. I would need to have a drink before I watch this film.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with Quentin Tarantino films , but it’s kind of similar to that, where it’s very violent, but very exaggerated with the violence, where it really doesn’t depict real life scenarios how something would unfold if someone was in a fight per se. Ultimately, it is a very graphic movie, but in a sick-twisted-way, I like movies like that. But that’s just me.😁

Yes, it is a very violent movie, and it’s not for everyone, but at the end of the day, it is just a movie.

Maybe I will watch it. I’m almost finished watching Midsommar and it’s been interesting film. There were a few parts that had me stuck.

To those who liked Queen’s Gambit, Innocent Moves (aka Searching for Bobby Fischer) is showing in Netflix. Ben Kingsley as Bruce Pandolfini, who is a consultant in Queen’s G.

Decent movie.
I highly recommend "Pawn Sacrifice", which is Fischer's biopic; good acting, good soundtrack, pretty faithful to the actual story.

On the same note, I highly recommend The Wicker Man (the original one, not the one with Nicholas Cage)
The original The Wicker Man can't be praised enough, but the Nic Cage version is a timeless, fantastic work of art for completely different reasons.

Watched Christopher Nolan's Tenet earlier today. I liked it, but I think I need to rewatch it to get the most of it. Really well done visually, and the cast did a great job.

[Disclaimer:

I’m generally not disturbed by violence in movies, and maybe that’s because I’m so immune to seeing so many movies that express violence in some form or fashion that’s almost considered ‘acceptable’ by today’s standards in film making, but this movie puts violence on a different map in a way that may not be appropriate for everyone to watch. And what I mean by that, is there some pretty extreme scenes of violence against women, so I just want to put that out there right away for those who may not appreciate that type of filmography, regardless of the plot.]

That all said, I really like Casey Affleck as an actor, he’s so underrated and not talked about enough, and how versatile he is. He’s very monotone and subtle with his acting, but this was a really good role for him that he plays a sheriff that covers up a murder that he’s involved in. And the movie basically kind of flows from there to take you through the motions.

The plot is a bit messy in this one and doesn’t do the greatest job of explaining everything, but in terms of the suspense, I thought this was a decent film in that regard. Jessica alba (who I think is gorgeous), I never really thought she was that ‘good’ of an actress, however; she does a great job in this movie, followed by Kate Hudson as well.

Ah, I guess I should watch this.

Side note: I hate when faces and names do not match in movie posters. Was it so hard to write "Jessica Alba" on the left?

Midsommar was weird as I was trying to understand the traditions and the way Pelle’s community lived. Overall, it was a good movie that I’m going to watch for a second time.

That’s a glaring design error.

It's descending order of top billing, left-to-right (in languages that read that way), then the art itself is a little more complicated. Many designs put the top billed in the center, or at the request of the top billed, wherever they feel they have more visual prominence. It's a pretty funny bit of design voodoo :D
