Black Swan [2010]
This was my first time watching ‘Black Swan’. I have no idea why I bypassed it all these years, but I was captivated every second for the entire two hours watching.
The plot basically surrounds a ballerina (Natalie Portman) Who devotes her entire life to crafting her passion as a dancer and once she lands the main role for a major lead, you see how her life unfolds when she deals with competition, the pressures of dealing with mental illness, life itself and her eccentric mother pushes the mental boundaries where Nina (Portman) starts to experience hallucinations. I can’t say more than that, as there’s so much that unfolds, but the entire movie cast was impressive, from Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis.
I think it’s difficult sometimes to identify what type of movie can be, this one perfectly tethers a dark suspense and thriller. What’s even more interesting, Natalie Portman‘s character actually has minimal dialogue, she does more acting with her dancing, the use of facial expressions and body language to signal how much stress and pressure she’s under. Sometimes I think we [As an audience] always tend to look at actors based off lines, but there’s way more to acting from that standpoint.
On a different note, I can also say I have a new respect for dance/ballerinas. There’s so much choreography, strategy, The amount of physicality is amazing. It really is an art-form.
Anyways, killer movie.
