Joker [2019]

Being such a heavy movie critic that I am, this was my first time watching this. And I’ve always been a fan of Joaquin Phoenix in the past in his movies with ‘Her, Gladiator, and Signs’, but easily this was his best performance in his career.

The level of emotion that he put into this film, along with the extreme weight loss of 52 pounds, somebody that really portrays an individual that struggles with mental health conditions, I don’t think you could’ve chose a better actor for this role that executed everything perfectly. I think there’s very few actors in the industry that could accurately portray somebody that’s crazy, but somehow the sense of direction to show you a life of somebody that legitimately is mentally unstable the way Joaquin Phoenix did. To me, that’s talent that you can’t just manufacture on the stage.

Very few movies prompt me to want to watch it a second time consecutively, and this is one where I just want to go back and watch it again, to see the little things that I overlooked or missed, but overall it really was a great movie and it was interesting how they tied the backstory of Thomas Wayne into the Jokers storyline without provoking the whole Batman concept.

I started watching tv series, one of them is called Disenchantment.

"Princess Tiabeanie, 'Bean', is annoyed at her imminent arranged marriage to Prince Merkimer. Then she meets Luci, a demon, and Elfo, an elf, and things get rather exciting, and dangerous." (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt05363918/)

I already like it.
Welcome to the community! This thread is for movies. TV shows is over here:

Not seen this in 35 years. It’s surprising how much I remember.

Also I think it’s funny to look at the original movie poster and think how out of touch with modern times it is. Much like the film.
This was the first James Bond movie I saw at the theater as a young teen and was riveted by it, loving the Turkey sequence, periscope in the Russian Embassy, hot women, cat fight. ;) It was a double feature that included Thunderball. :)

The extended versions of The Lord of the Rings were excellent and added a lot to the movies.

I agree! I feel like this was one of the exceptions to the rule. The books were so dense that cutting the movies down to a more 'audience friendly' running time resulted in missing pieces that made other scenes not quite work as well as they otherwise would.

Of course, I'm the kind of nerd that thinks nothing of soaking up 4 hours of high fantasy in one sitting. :)

I’m in the minority, I know, but I liked the adventures the Hobbits had on the way to the Prancing Pony. Of all the stuff that had to be edited out though, TFOTR worked really well without it.

I’m always in search of a good indie film, because sometimes I find these are the hidden masterpieces that generally don’t receive the favor they should. I think this is a really solid film for the most part, with a smaller somewhat known cast.

The plot is about a small family that lives deep into the Northwoods, and they’ve had some past experiences with a rogue wolf that skulks where they live and it’s returned consuming some of their food source. So, the husband sets out to track the Wolf down, in doing so, he stumbles across some thing else that leads to a different path where the film takes a twist about mid point. I really enjoy the whole wilderness seen the movie takes place in

I would say the movie itself is very good, but I’m not sure how much I actually enjoy the twist towards the end. Let’s just say it goes very ‘Eli Roth’ style, [if you’re familiar with him as a director].

But on a sidenote, I always find movies about nature kind of interesting, especially wolves, as they are a huge problem in my state, where you have many people who think this is this ‘majestic animal’ that should be left alone, when they stalk kids at bus stops and kill livestock.

This exact field is known in my state for wolf packs to travel in:

Mentioned before-
Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)- 91% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. One of my favorite movies set in the US South, a cultural story from the 1930’s centered on a murder, the Klan, racial prejudice, the interaction of intermingled black and white society, told through the eyes of an eighty year old woman who lived it. Cicely Tyson plays the character called Sipsey (Not the character telling the story.)

Previously mentioned...
Bladerunner 2049
81% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. Magnificent Cyberpunk, great characters and portrayals. The search for the child of a replicant (artificial human), something that could break the wall, break the world if this knowledge became widespread; a megalomaniac industrialist, master of a new breed of replicant who desires the knowledge of reproducing replicants; a murderous assistant, a replicant bladerunner who hunts his own, but during his search for the child to keep it hushed up, ends up questioning his existence. This is a slow paced story, with bursts of violence and it helps if you are a fan of the original movie. :)

Now I want to see Bladerunner 2051, The Revolution. :)

Because this is page 666, I feel like a satanic movie needs to make an appearance. I actually haven’t seen The Exorcist. I’ll see if I can stream it somewhere.

Well, this was yesterday evening and is barely in the ballpark of "Satanic movies", but here goes.

We Summon the Darkness (2019), directed by Marc Meyers and starring Alexandra Daddario and Johnny Knoxville, among others.

Three girlfriends go see a metal gig, meet three guys, decide to throw an afterparty. Can you guess what happens next?

It was pretty weak, a solid 4 or 5 out of 10. Some good scenes, maybe a bit of an attempt at a twist around the middle of the movie, but overall a very forgettable 90 minutes.

It's been a while since I watched Rosemary's Baby, so maybe that would be more fitting to the page number of this thread. Into the player it goes.

And yes, you should watch The Exorcist ASAP.

The little things [2021]

If you’ve ever watched the movie Se7en [1995] with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, and liked that film specifically, then you will appreciate ‘The little things’ with Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto.

So the movie plot follows a new detective that is basically trying to solve a series of ‘women murders’ in the city of Los Angeles with the help of Denzel Washington‘s character as a former detective with the police department.

But......

I actually found the movie incredibly dull and the chemistry between Denzel Washington’s character and Rami Malek were just.....boring. The movie itself is very anti-climatic, and the real winner in this movie is actually Jared Leto, who plays a suspect in the movie, who portrays a complete deranged weirdo, but he’s a great actor.

I was really looking forward to this movie when I saw the trailer about three months ago, but Denzel Washington is still one of my favorite actors, even though I do think this movie just really didn’t work, but has a really interesting storyline. Not to mention, there’s a few turns later in the movie that to me that weren’t logical.

oops

I forgot I also viewed:

Modern Noir that felt like a cross between a Wes Anderson film, although not the least bit humorous, and The Coen brothers film, although, again, not the least bit humorous. Deadpan, I guess it was deadpan, dialogue delivery ruins line.

Still kinda interesting. 6/10

Still the best of the lot from yesterday.
