My wife and I watched Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker the other night. Again, not as bad as I remember it, but still not great.

I'm really interested in this one, how did you like it? Taylor Sheridan has yet to let me down.
I enjoyed it. It wasn't over-the-top with the visuals, the story wasn't incredible but solid enough. The acting was pretty good as well. Nothing spectacular, but definitely worth the watch.

I just finished Tenet. First time in a while I’ve watched a movie from start to finish in one sitting. Christopher Nolan is pretty amazing and my brain hurts from trying to figure it all out. Thank the lord for YouTube videos to explain it.
I watched this last night and it made absolutely no sense. I actually googled 'Tenet makes no sense' and it seems many agree with me. If one has to watch YouTube videos for an explanation it is not a good movie. Not even to mention that the sound was awful and much of the dialogue was almost inaudible. I thought it was just the stream I was watching but no, that was apparently the 'director's intent'. Bad, bad movie.

Due to a lack of other movies I wanted to see in town at the time Tenet was released, I decided to give it a try. That was time and money ill spent. I agree that the sound was bad and I also read that was his intent. Well, seeing that it was not very popular next outing he may wish to focus more on pleasing the paying public and less on himself. But I suppose as long as he is able to con a studio into giving him a ridiculous budget and salary, he has no reason to change.

The Longest Day (1962)- 6 June 1944. Great portrayal of events on D Day and a favorite movie.
Trivia: Beach landing scenes were filmed in Corsica.

Scaling the cliffs of Pointe-du-hoc was filmed on location.

The bangalore torpedo sequence to destroy the obstacle to get off Omaha beach does not appear to be accurate, but not absolutely sure.

I want to watch this but am afraid, if you know how I feel about time travel paradoxes... :D

It's a great movie, all the ages of some of the actors compared to the ages of the people they played at the time are a little off the mark :)
Hollywood! 👀 :)
Of note Dwight Eisenhower is reported to have walked out of the movie after a few minutes due to the inaccuracies. It might have been the scene where he is in a meeting, deciding to go or not go. 🤔

More trivia, the casino sequence in Ouistreham was the actual hotel during the invasion that was later scheduled for demolition and destroyed as part of the movie production.

The Fountain (2006)- This movie got good reviews but both my wife and I only lasted about 5 minutes before turning it off. Fortunately it was on Starz as part of a left over subscription.

It looked like the director went to quite a length to find an Eisenhower look-alike. But the scene looked strained and in the end didn't work, IMO. But all in all, one of the best WW2 films from a western front point of view. I'd like to see more eastern front versions showing the huge Soviet contribution and sacrifice as well. Much of that is not as well known in the west.

Is it avalible on Apple TV?

You can check streaming options for a film at thestreamable.com:

Just a jumbled mess of action. Sure there's a story in there, however the action or more to the point CGI takes the staring role. I didn't find Tenet to be deep, complex or challenging, mostly just more of the same only scrambled up in an attempt to make the film different and edgy.

Tenet to me does not come across as being elegantly or smartly written more an exposition of "look what I can do". Cinematography & acting is solid, equally if Tenet was portrayed in a linear manner there'd be little to no discussion with film yet again being an average action flick at best. Tenet WOW's you with it's grandiose scale, CGI attempts to be clever with paradoxes beyond that very little else is on the table.

A film that explores time and how we perceive far better is Arrival being intelligently written, delivered with a solid cast that resonates and provokes conversation...

After thinking about it more I have a major “time travel” hang up with this movie but since you haven’t seen it I won’t mention it.

I didn’t have much opinion of the CGI. Which parts do you mean?

Not that it's bad, just that like so many others that's the star of the show, not the actual performance. As one see's past the CGI, leaves for a shallow experience. CGI should augment the film never dominate, Tenet is clearly well executed, yet unsatisfying & unfulfilling as a feature film.

Ahh yes, Arrival. Definitely not talked about enough. I personally think Arrival is one of the best, [if not thee] best sci-fi movies in the last decade. It’s really brilliantly acted with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. It’s very thought-provoking and overall, really emphasized on human condition. Also, the musical score is on point, and definitely will draw the viewer closer with various cinematic events.
