I just watched 30 Days of Night. I think if you guys liked John Carpenter's the Thing, you'd dig this one.
I loved the original The Thing, the remake wasn't as good and lacked the suspense of the first film. But I may give 30 Days Of Night a watch.

30 Days of Night is a solid watch, but obviously there has to be some time compression. Some of the best on screen vampires...

The 1982 Thing was and still is a ahead of it's time. The 2011 prequal wasn't a bad film, but lacks a masters touch. The original The Thing From another World (1951) is also well worth a watch great film for it's time; story, characters, acting direction a lot of what's missing today...

Not as bad as some would like you to think. Not a blockbuster by any means, equally a mystery that you have to put together yourself and form your own conclusions...

Reminds me a little of Black Mountain Side, although very different films similar feeling...

Watching The Eternals myself, because it's in Disney Plus. About half way through and it's weak. They spent all of 5 minutes in the biggest twist in the story. The whole story is weak and makes a bit of a mockery of the rest of the Marvel universe.
Not a good one. Which is sad as The Ten Rings was brilliant.

A 4 out of 10 for me.

EDIT: ok just finished watching it, gets a 3.5 out of 10, Marvel seem to want to keep on using the same story, how the universe and life was created etc, but with different story lines and characters that mention the other ones but also make them seem hypocritical?. Now we have sentient beings higher then the Infinity stones or gods like Thor? In this case for me it doesn't really work very well.
This is only my opinion of course. Watch it and make your own opinions in the film, looks like they are set to make a sequel at least.

Yup... I agree completely. But I would have given it a 2-10... I was disappointed and I went in, with low expectations.

It’s (30 Days of Night) vampires vs alien, but I have put this on my list to watch. :)

I watched 30 Days Of Night after you guys in here recommending it, I rented it as it was cheap and realised I've seen it lol. Good film though. Luckily I couldn't remember the ending. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Yeap, it's sad. But no doubt they'll be making a sequel. Angelina Jolie may as well not have been in the film for all the lines she had, which weren't many.

Ref: 30 Days of Night, watched it today and was disappointed. No offense to anyone, I realize there is a spectrum different tastes, but it’s nothing like The Thing other than for the snow. :)

Semi-Pro with Will Ferrell.

I needed a break from this dumpster fire of constant clickbait news headlines.

just something utterly stupid and funny at the same time.

not his best comedy movie by far, but its gots some goodies spread throughout the film.

I don't think it would, it is about vampires, not aliens. The Thing, especially John C.'s version is a great movie. I also happen to like 30DON, but they are different and deal with different subject matters. They both happen to take place in the snow and that is about where it ends.

My point was when I think of The Thing for comparisons it would have to be along the lines of massive who do/can you trust? But I also didn't like the execution and inconsistencies of 30DON, nor Danny Houston as the leader, and it did not feel like 30 days, more like one evening. Just an opinion. :)

I get it... but it was the start of the 30 days of night as that is when they come in and feed. It was just one night or two... lol

I said or two... lol

I really liked it, but then again I also liked the comics. I really liked The Thing... Great movie and while it has aged a little, to me it still holds up today.
But there was nothing more than a label to say how many days had passed. I would have been more impressed if they had shown people wearing down, but it did not feel like that at all. I think reading the book influences your reception of the movie version a lot, sometimes gives you a better perception, but of course reading the book can make you hate the movie too. :)

For 30DON, I really disliked the the stylized choices that were made for the vampires, which is personal preference, the way they fed like mad dogs, and the maniacal look in their expressions, everyone except Danny Houston’s dull look.

But it’s likely I have been effected by what has come before this. Yeah it’s a shock after Twilight and pretty vampires, :) but also more subtle traditional vampires who don’t go for frontal assaults, not that I reject this approach out of hand. For whatever reason, the execution of the story just left me unsatisfied. And I’ll leave it at that and am in no way claiming to be the authority on good movies. :)

HAHAHAH... that makes two of us! Please don't mention Twilight... LOL. There are so many other vampire story's that have pretty vampires and are actually good!

I get it regarding the movie, I have a feeling your statements and sentaments towards the movie are probably more common as most folks didn't like it and it didn't do that well at the box office.

No Time To Die (2021)- It was ok, a little to slick, can’t compete with the Casino Royal/Quantum of Solace one-two punch imo.

Daniel Craig had a good run as Bond. His replacement if she is his permanent replacement did not impress me. The bad guy inexplicably comes back at the end by himself to confront Bond. Rumor has it that Q recorded all of Bond’s brain waves and the next installment will feature Bond, Android Bond. ;) [/SPOILER]

But there maybe a sequel in work?

The Last Duel (2021)- The wife of a knight accuses another knight of rape in 14th century France, we get to see the story told 3 times from the perspective of each primary character. Did the book do that I wonder? But all 3 stories basically confirm the same thing, then there is a trial where the character of the woman is assailed repeatedly. It’s a tough she said, he said trial without witnesses, and typical gender biases, then a brutal duel.

For myself, I did not seeing any great benefit of injecting these perspectives, I did not read the book and don’t know if the testimony of the trial was recorded in detail. And it’s not as if the 3 stories were significantly different and I did not feel it made the story more intriguing or artistically cutting edge because of it. Actually the perspective of the accused knight is rather peculiar for claiming his innocence if this was the testimony he actually gave at the trial.

I showed up unannounced, basically tricked/forced my way in, chased her all over the house, finally caught her, and despite her protestations, physically assaulted and forced myself on her… but it wasn’t rape because I’m madly in love with her! Maybe this was the point of the story? Why the court wanted to know if she experienced pleasure, because we all know that is the only way a woman can conceive… and she did conceive, maybe this was the real message of the movie, historical gender oppression …

The performances were good, Matt Damon’s character was really a disagreeable sort who seemed like he was devoted to his King but did not really get along with his peers. Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, Ben Affleck were excellent, but the story itself, the atmosphere felt oppressive… Ehh.

Updated, fixed some typos.

Personally I really liked The last Duel, not 100% historically accurate never the less films of this scale are rarely produced today. The differences in each of the protagonist's view points are both very subtle and brutally obvious.

TBH I think having an understanding of the real life event and the period helps a lot. For myself I kind like this arrangement. The film makes one think and delve into the history behind it then it gets deeper...

If nothing else The Last Duel is beautifully shot and an interesting watch in 2022. Those that enjoyed The Last Duel, should also watch The Kingdom of Heaven

Note: Directors Cut only as the studio butchered the theatrical release, resultantly the film was very difficult to follow. The directors intended film is a masterpiece on many levels...
