Get Carter (1971)
One of the best of it's genre, holds up perfectly as a hard hitting crime thriller. If not watched your missing out on a great film no bones about it...

The Shawshank Redemption. One of my all time favorite films. It never gets old.
I went to school (UCLA) with Tim Robbins. He won our highest acting award even then. Super nice guy too.

This multi-universe movie is like nothing else that I've seen. Not at all predictable or borrowed like most movies these days. Instead of flashy castles, waterfalls, or other spectacular settings we get a laundromat and an IRS office. Totally unexpected humor from the most unexpected things - the IRS, sex toys, hot dogs, lots of references to other films. Only thing that follows the usual template is lots of fighting, but in totally unusual ways.
Somewhere in my 4-5 star range.

I remember seeing that in theaters when I was a kid.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 riffed it in their first season. Even funnier that way.

Technically that was season "0" - on Minneapolis local TV, before the move to Comedy Central and their more polished form.
Ace Ventura Pet Detective (1994)- This may have been the first time I saw Jim Carrey and I still laugh at this movie even though it may no longer be politically correct. He is such a good physical, slapstick comedic actor.

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen
Was curious since they said it's a sequel to Jet Li's Fist of Legend (94), which I love. But I was somewhat disappointed as Donnie Yen's Chen Zhen is more of Bruce Lee's than Jet Li's. Why did they have to to say it's a sequel to Jet Li's version? It's obvious since Chen Zhen's character and fighting style are not Jet Li's style. Donnie Yen is channeling Bruce Lee, and he's great. But due to the misleading expectation, I was not quite happy. I felt the movie to be quite "long" and it took me several sittings to finish it. Too many missed opportunities in showing Chen Zhen as Black Mask. Many of them are just quick shots and cuts instead of showing full scenes of Donnie fighting as Black Mask in his "missions." The final showdown was alright, but it just lacks the grit of Jet Li's Fist of Legend. Again, wished they didn't say it was a sequel, just say it's another interpretation of the character.
