Finally got around to watching The Mule (2018) starring Clint Eastwood. Based on the true story of the eponymous mule Leo Sharp (1924-2016), the most prolific mule of all time. Always a fan of Clint Eastwood on screen. It makes me sad that he can only make so many more movies before he's no longer with us due to his advanced age. But I enjoy each and every one.

Clint is a great actor/producer/director. It will be a huge loss for the film industry when he passes.

I had high hopes for this one given everyone involved with it. After reading some of the comments on various FB posts and other forums on it, I am going to wait as I am disappointed to hear how bad it is. Ugh.
In an interview, the Director stated that he thought Ragnarok was going to be the last Thor movie when he made it, he put his all into it. And by that and other movies he's made, like JoJoRabit, he has talent, Ragnarok was brilliant.

So I guess when they said make another, maybe he has so much going on, he or he had some assistant screen writer, throw together some elements of a story, in a haphazard way, belittled Guardians, turned you average God into a nasty cartoon character, destroyed Thor's character, and how else can I say basically flubbed it, producing a shallow unsatisfying narrative featuring a group of disgusting gods, especially Russel Crowe who you would not mind seeing get snuffed, as a means to give the villain a valid excuse for wanting to extinguish all the gods.

This movie had the basics of what could have been a good movie too imo, Jane Foster's arc, and a guy let down by his god, mysteriously acquiring a power and a sword capable of slaying gods, if they had just taken it seriously and made it coherent. The ending was a real stretch- a change of heart.

Gods, Celestials, Eternals, in the Marvel Universe, I consider them to be good or bad, and serious in what they do, not shallow cartoon punchlines. I think I can safely say in the original source material (which is a comic) they were not ever portrayed as badly, as shallow, as annoying as in this movie. Compare Zeus and the God who abused Gorr to Odin and Hella. Could these possibly exist in the same universe? If this was Waititi's artistic license, and it was, major fail artistic blunder, not ha ha worthy at all, just embarrassing. And those screaming goats, they were just annoying. 🙄

Watched the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid last night because it was free on YouTube. Didn't expect to like it, but actually really enjoyed it.

The Brood (1979) by David Cronenberg.

A small gem of 1970’s horror, I can’t honestly say that it’s a great movie. Its concept is definitely ingenious, but it is one of those movies that clearly doesn’t age that well. In line with the psychology-new age horror movies with the era, it shares some elements with Dario Argento’s Phenomena and Road’s Don’t look Now (with Donald Sutherland). Those interested in old movies and B-movies should definitely watch it.

Being There (1979) by Al Ashby.
I have no words. I can’t believe I missed this incredible movie for so long. Not only this is a smart, ironic, sarcastic comedy, but it features Peter Sellers in his last role and what is probably his best performance.

This is certainly the first movie, or at least the first successful movie, that features an autistic individual, and it does so in the best portrayal I’ve ever seen… certainly a better one than Rain Man. This movie also features quite a good critique of society, the government, media, and people in general.

I won’t spoil the movie, but the ending - the very last scene - was just pure perfection.

Of note, a great soundtrack. The scene featuring Deodato is a small masterpiece within a masterpiece.

I liked this movie so much that I am going to buy it as a Criterion BluRay.

My alltime favorite movie, no CGI, no elabrate sets, no big explosions to drive the story.
Just a few people sitting in a room having a conversation.

I can't comment on the movie because I haven't seen it, but David Cronenberg has some pretty twisted movies out there.

Ok so I finally watched:

And it was meh… the story is great, Jake Gyllenhaal steals the film with his performance! But man, it’s a typical Bay film, everything blows up, but… the stunts are just soooooo obvious, feel so utterly fake, not naturally flowing at all, you could tell most we’re done in a studio backlot somewhere. And I swear Bay used his son or something with their new Christmas toy drone for most of the shots, it got very boring quickly I have to say flying around in and out. A shame as I was looking forward to it. The ending was a bit daft too.

Anyway so last night I watched one of my more favourite films, a proper thriller like action film:

Good acting, writing, story, emotion, filming and editing. Scott showing how it’s done.

Kate (2021)- Action thriller 50% Audience Score @rt. A hit woman, has second thoughts about her profession, some impressive fight sequences, the lead actress does a fine job, the story gets right to the point but is lacking
I’m going to be dead in 24 hours, I need to kill my way though a hundred or more thugs to get even with the crime boss.

Besides enjoying The Transformer movies, my favorite Michael Bay film is The Island… cinematic, nice chase sequence, but it’s not all that, but some of that meshing in with the story nicely. :) Felt like Logan’s Run.
