Someone mentioned Avatar a while ago which caught my eye. Saw it in the theater when it came out, but now I have a nice 4K TV so I thought I would like to watch it again. Checked on Amazon and they had a special 3 BluRay disk set for $13! Movie was great to see again, but the bonus disk was really intriguing. They went into great detail on all the procedures on how Cameron shot the film. Incredible amount of work and technology. He used 4 or 5 different effects companies as well his own people. The Avatars were NOT animation, they were real actors. All their motion was performed by the actors. It was all done with performance motion techniques. First step was to make clay models each of the Avatar characters, then send them off to an effects company to be 3D scanned into computer files. The real actors wore special suits with buttons that the computers picked up. Faces had dots painted on in key spots. Each actor wore a head band with a special camera out in front of their faces to pick the expressions and lip movement. The digital shots were recorded and converted basic shapes of the Avatars. Then the 3D scans were applied to the basic shapes to produce the finished character. Incredible detail and realistic movements, because they were real! The bonus disk went through every aspect and production technique used.
One of the unique and fascinating innovations Cameron came up with was a special camera/monitor that he carried to give himself a real time look at how the final scene looked. In the studio all you saw were the actors moving around in there special attire, but the computers fed Cameron's camera/monitor with all the digital images completed, and it had motion sensors in it so when Cameron moved around the images on the monitor followed his POV. The Bonus disk was well worth the $13 by itself. Looking forward to sequels.

Sorry, I know this picture has already been posted, but I watched this tonight on Disney Plus and it’s impressed me sooo much I just had to post it again!

What a shocker, a film straight to streaming services and it is literally the best one since Predator 2!!! (the one with Danny Glover), in many ways a bit like that film in that it’s a bit back to basics, even with the Predator but you’ll have to watch it to find out how.
Ignore all the other trash since Glovers film, watch this.

I give it a solid 8 out of 10. Beautifully shot too, fantastic scenery if it’s real, can’t tell these days.

Be warned though this is not one for the kids as it’s got lots of lovely gore in it! 😃

EDIT turns out they shot a lot of the film on location yay! No fake scrubbers here, filmed in Canada mostly.

Wow. They really nailed the poster! Very 80s inspired. A new movie based on an IP from the 80s that is actually good? Could it be true!?!? I'll give it a watch. But just one thing, does the dog die? If it does, I ain't watching. Come on Hollywood, you know the rule!!! Turner and Hooch was the only movie to get away with it.

Edit: After watching the trailer me spidey senses are tinglin'. Arnie was an elite trained Marine. Danny Glover was a hardened cop who'd seen it all and doesn't really fight the Predator. This is a teenage girl... Also, the overly modern American accents of the actors somewhat took me out of the period. I'll still give it a watch and hope for the best.

Ok, so I’ll spoil that part for you, no. I did wonder the same. And it IS actually good! Still cannot believe a straight to streaming film actually nails the story after all these years! It’s tracking 7.2 over on IMDB currently.

Blade Runner 2049 ... wtf?

Seriously. W.T. The actual F?

Wow.

But you didn't like 2049?

No I didn't. Senseless.
I think that perfectly sums up 2049. It's beautiful but like so many things based off something from the past it doesn't understand the themes at play in the original. 2049 is meaningless. The main character is nothing but a convenient plot device that is ultimately pointless. The two best characters in the film, David Batista and the hologram girlfriend were totally wasted. The only two characters who embody what the original was about and the story kills them off! Not just that but they are the ONLY two sympathetic characters in the movie. The only two characters with a soul (ironically and which is kind of the point). Without them this movie is as shallow as a kiddie pool in the middle of an Arizona summer. 3/10. And only for how beautiful it looks. The story was Sh*thouse.

The original is a classic in every single way. From the incredible effects to the amazing score from Vangelis to the superb Noir Detective story that delves deep into what it means to be human with two of the greatest lines in cinema history. "Like tears in rain." and "Time to Die."

And to keep this on point, I've just watched The Devil's Advocate again. I feel like this movie was destroyed in the test screening or the script editing. It's not quite sure what it wanted to be and the strokes are far too broad instead of being more subtle and nuanced. Keanu is always Keanu as is Pacino, but the young lass in it, her acting wasn't up to par. She's a good actor now, but at that time, this character was beyond her abilities.

Little sceptical myself, but I'll give Prey a watch. Totally burnt out with the way the majority of films are made today. They are not being remotely intelligently thought out and only serve to insult the paying audiences intelligence...

Only solution is to not support, studios, producers and directors who churn out poor content and ignore the paying customers...

Every Which Way But Loose

Clint Eastwood and a monkey. How did this movie even get made?

yet...
It grossed a total of $104.3 million in the United States and Canada,[2] ranking high amongst those of Eastwood's career, and was the second-highest-grossing film of 1978.[8]
There have been "monkey bro" movies for decades. Ronald Reagan and Bonzo was one of the first big ones.

How did this ever get made?

Prey (2022)
Been posted a few times so no poster required :) Prey is pretty good and worth the watch, vastly superior to the 2018 film which is simply best forgotten.

Film's protagonist does frequently cross the line of believability, however it's handled far better than most these days nor does the film look to insult it's audience. End's overpowering, but by then your already along for the ride and this is a film with a lot of action. I still rate the first & second films higher, Prey is easily as good as Predators (2010) maybe better and deserves it's current 7.3 rating. Feels almost like an 80's film, just get's straight into it and does it with a very solid R rating (thankfully).

Those in charge should get Prey on the big screen fast as I think this would be a big hit. I think many are sick & tired of the endless diluted PG13 content. They want to see action and are willing to pay for it...

Sadly the bar has been set so low of recent years, we the audience are starved of decent content. Anyway I enjoyed Prey, however bear in mind I'm a fan of the Predator franchise, so you may not. The 2022 film isn't an instant classic by any means like the 1987 original. That said Prey is very much a step in the right direction of getting back to the basics of entertainment, not preaching to the audience and pushing unwanted personal doctrine.

As said the more audiences avoid poor content and reward good work the faster; studios, producers & directors will return to form. Those that want to play politics should get out of entertainment as it utterly the wrong medium, nor are they much good at it...

I understand there is an English version and a Comanche version with subtitles. I'll probably watch the English version because I'm too lazy to read subtitles.
I went with the predominantly English version, seems to me was shot that way. I'm OK with foreign language films with subtitles as have a fair collection of Kong Kong crime films :) TBH I wouldn't mind to watch the other version in Comanche :)

Prey didn't disappoint, but I'm a fan of Predator and it's early days LOL...

I completely disagree with your BR2049 appraisal, no hard feelings. :D

The 15:17 To Paris (2018)- Based on a true story, a terrorist event on a train that requires you watch the entire lives of 3 Americans with drips and drabs of the event scattered throughout the film as if to remind you why you decided to watch it. Terrible critic and audience reviews at Rotten Tomatoes. The film imo has serious pacing issues. I expected more from Clint Eastwood.

What happens is completely heroic, nothing over the top, but the event takes about 15 minutes, and required too much other stuff not related to the event to make a movie of it. And if felt like too much like reality which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. Watching the trio get in trouble as juveniles did not pull me in.

Very interesting is that the real people involved in this incident, played themselves. Maybe that’s why it felt like a reality story.

I liked the concept, and Clint Eastwood is such a talented director. I like most of his films. But I rewatched it since it was featured on the Netflix homepage and I was several minutes into the movie before realizing I had already seen it before. Ultimately very forgettable and too slice-of-life to be impactful.

Currently watching Uncharted, which was critically panned, but loved by audiences.

I was really unhappy they replaced Nathan Fillion with my not-favorite Spider-Man. Yes, I’ll probably still watch this and give it a chance, but I’m not hopeful.

Who listens to critics...LOL

It's basically to the point now that if a critic says it's good, it's probably bad and if they say it's bad it's probably good. They are that far out of touch and have such heavy agendas that I simply can't trust movie reviewers anymore.

My rule of thumb now is to check if they liked the 2nd Star Wars sequel, the Last Startfighter (👀) or whatever it's called and if the review says it's even just okay, I know there is an agenda and they can't be trusted.

If anybody knows a good movie reviewer on YT I'd be more than happy to check them out.

I rewatched Outrageous Fortune recently and remember it was quite a popular flick back in the day. It was a star vehicle for the two female leads and a female buddy movie. That part of it was fine. Both leads were strong, if over the top, and while the movie was focussed on the who is the mystery lover, it was actually a lot of fun. But once it turned into a spy movie, it became rather stupid and the end was ridiculous. If it had stayed small and grounded it would have been so much better.

YT is a dead loss as the vast majority are only in it for the "click's". I don't think some even bother to watch all the films, they just jump on the bandwagon and push their own agenda be it; left, right, up or down...

Personally I think your better off on smaller threads like this. There's far more chance of getting an open & honest opinion from real people. I can generally recognise the good from the bad, even if not to my own personal taste, so I don't throw shade.

I don't do the forced Hollyweird politics as I refuse to put money in their pockets. Such people need to weeded out so the actual paying customers are served with a value product. The simple answer is not to support or watch their trash as when the money runs out sanity will resume and their petty politics will be **** canned...

Pretty much gave up on Star Wars at the 2nd trilogy (sold out to toys and franchise). Watched the 1st film of the 3rd trilogy, no more pennies from me. Far too much agenda for my liking, wrong people in charge with no clue regarding the general populous and they had the audacity to criticise the paying audience  What could possibly go wrong...

I have a mental list and if their name crops up, I simply avoid their film's as it will almost certainly be ***** due to being massively compromised by agenda politics, enjoy the failure. We are arguably the most important aspect of the chain. I.E. the paying viewer...
