Ursula Andress, stars again, however a very different role surprisingly so. This a very adult film on many grounds so be well warned with some big names of the day. Is it any good? one of the better of it's genre, tries to be accurate within the confines of the script. No Oscar material here, a serviceable shocker and that's what you'll get.

Recently finished the buddy cop comedy Spenser[sic] Confidential on Netflix. Standout performances by Winston Duke, comedienne Iliza Shlesinger, and the always entertaining Alan Arkin, whom I particularly enjoyed in Argo (2012). Looking forward to the sequel.

American Psycho

Criminally underrated film. Shame the sequel was trash. I think the source material would work really well as a television series. Just finished Sir Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, which I felt like is to Jojo Rabbit what Thor 1 is to Thor: Ragnarok.

The Netflix original film Day Shift starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco. It's like Training Day meets Bright. Very fun film, and one of the best movies in the vampire genre I've seen in recent years.

The Terminal List (2022)

Technically not a film, equally is shot like one, more importantly feels like one. Another great back to basics watch, no BS, just solid action. It's 8 hours, I watched in two sessions. Is it per perfect, no not by any means yet is far better than much of the trash served up today.

Quiet Place 2 (2020)- Worthy sequel. Si-Fy Horror, aggressive, murderous alien creatures invade Earth whose primary sense is sound. What is interesting is that the beginning of this movie shows the beginning of the event. The first movie started in the ongoing situation, this is a direct sequel that starts with a flashback. I enjoyed this because the tempo was perfect, no dragging.

Yes, watched the first half last night - enjoyed it, will do the second half tonight...

In other news Wolfgang Peterson has died - might have brush off my copy of Das Boot... (One of my favourite tv series / films)

A loss to us all and Das Boot is one of his very best films. Up next with a stiff drink to celebrate his life & work which will outlive us all...

A must watch, flip side of the coin yet compelling and those that serve/served will get it more than most...

If you can understand German, recommended version, trust me ;)

One of the best war films bar none. Certainly the best film on submarine warfare and an apt illustration on how war is 99% boredom and 1% terror.

It first popped up here in the UK in the early eighties as a BBC miniseries that ran for around half a dozen hour'ish episodes if I remember correctly. (I think it was subtitled). Both me and my father were instantly hooked from the first 10 minutes. Whatever we were doing we both made sure we were on the sofa waiting for the next episode! I think there had been a cinema release in Germany(?) prior but not sure. I think that full series is still far the best as the really slow pace builds, builds and builds again the tension... It's genius. I can still hear that music and swishing of the destroyers propellors... Totally credible and hugely moving...

Only ever seen Das Boot as a full feature, guess regions vary. Watching Crimson Tide now, next up Kursk or the Hunt for Red October...

An extended version was shown on TV in the 1980s (naturally, complete with sub-titles); to my mind, it was superb, even better than the already excellent movie.

Actually, this format allowed for greater character development, better pacing, and superlative story telling, and allowed them to take the time to tell the story properly.

I think I have that version on disk being in the region of 3 hours, is my preferred watch.
