I gotta watch that now.

There was a spy film with him, I think it was him, back in the mid 80's and I seem to remember him being tied up in a hangar at a very small, private type airport/runway... anyone? Or is it actually this film, Charley Varrick, that i'm thinking of...?
Well he wasn't any kind of spy in CV so it must be another one. With his face he could be either comic or demonic.

Watched Black Adam, yup it was bad, had Zach Synder written all over it. Not a good thing. It was somehow a ZS movie in all, except without his name in the credits. All the lame signature styling, excessive slow motion, unesssceaary shots, angles just to look cool, slo mo charging the camera mouths open, lightening FX's. and cartoonish movements, and destroy eveything because they have so much superpowers.

Besides the bad directing the story was nothing, bad intro, which was way too long and could have been a movie itself. So it didn't grab any attention to get things moving. Characters with no intro and you don't care about because why should we. The Rock not being the Rock and was pretty dull the entire movie. 👎

Warner Bros./DC Comics just don't have the formula for a good "comics universe" the way Marvel does.

The first problem is that they can't decide what direction to go, so they keep rebooting the same movies. I'm so sick of seeing how Batman and Spiderman came to be. MOVE ON ALREADY! Wanna switch actors after the first movie, fine. But for the love of God, NO MORE REBOOTS!

Second problem, they keep looking a gift horse in the mouth, enjoying the surprise hit, then blowing it with poorly written and rushed out movies. Wonder Woman was a mega-hit, and it was great. But of course, they rushed out a really crappy script for the second one, then decided to kill the entire franchise because they wanted to "change directions."

Mark my words, these two @$$-hats in charge of the DC movies are going to poop the bed as well. They have some of the best comic characters, and yet they will find a way to make them completely uninteresting and forgetful over the span of the next three movies.

All that being said, I found Black Adam to be quite entertaining, despite the complete lack of a decent story arc and cliche movie-making techniques. But, it'll be another character they've destroyed the future of.

My history with DCComics Movies has been hit, mostly miss. Marvel as a whole is much better in just about every aspect.

  • It started with Batman (TV)- Despite being a parady, I was able to enjoy it. Adam West (Batman) and Burgess Meredith as the Penguin were stellar.
  • First 2 Superman with Christopher Reeve were good. Actually thought the first one was excellent.
  • Swamp Thing- I don’t remember if I saw it.
  • Tim Burton Batmans- I hated too dark, along with hating disgusting Penguin, Joker, and Riddler.
  • Road to Perdition- Ehh.
  • League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- Ehh.
  • Cat Woman- Ehh.
  • V for Vendetta- One of my favorite movies!
  • Christopher Nolan Batmans- better but still dark. Heath Ledger’s Joker, makes The Darl Knight the best Batman ever made Imo, although at this point, I am done with Batman and Gotham City.
  • Watchmen- Possibly the best Visual Novel I’ve ever read, reaching depths rare for typical comics, yet the story was just ok. The movie did nothing for me, the TV series was much better.
  • Red- Ehh.
  • Man of Steel- with Henry Cavill was pretty good.
  • Suicide Squad- Marvel trashy version?
  • Wonder Woman- Thumbs up!
  • Aquaman- I read the lead and his co-star had zero chemistry. I think she sued Johnnie Depp.
  • Birds of Prey- I really wanted to like Harley Quinn
  • Joker- I heard it was good, but more dark.
  • Wonder Woman 1984- they ruined it.

Interesting take.

I believe everything before Zach Synder gained control was either good or not so good.

Batman - Tim Burton was great, I saw this in the theatre day of release, not that it made it good, it was on it's own. Interesting cast choices which turned into surprising performances backed with decent writing. The movie is very memorable to this day and a basic quote mill, with fantastic music.

The later Batman's - not so good.

Batman - Nolan one of the best remakes of a series, a true retelling of the story with a very distinct quality of it's own.

V for Vendetta - great.

Zach Snyder - The guy is a hack. The Watchmen being the only exception. Having good reference material and basically putting the graphic novel on screen with little straying (almost matching the visuals to the comic frames), and him sticking to more limited input made this work.

MoS, BvS. They let Zach loose and it shows they are garbage. Sorry fans, bad writing, too many risks which didn't pay off and bad execution. So much FX's and blowing everything up nothing has weight or purpose. Just blow the stuff up! Superman basically going berserk and destroying most of Gotham, yeah that kinda leads us to BVS, great idea, but badly executed, and a Superman you don't like.
Henry Caill and Ben Affleck both were perfect casting, but not utilized due to terrible movies

Wonder Woman 1 - overrated, but 3/4 better then the garbage before so it looks great. But that third act has ZS written all over it, dark, ridiculous FX, and everything blows up, with no point. I could not finish it.
Gal Gadot at first I thought was badly cast, but is great, but WW1 she is so wooden. Her best WW was in Justice League where she brought more charm to the character.

WW II - yikes that was bad. Unwatchable. ZS strikes again, indirectly.

Black Adam - Not good, but not unwatchable. The Rock under utilized. The stench of ZS still persists, over the top FX, lightening everywhere, glass FX, slow motion galore, pretty black girl slow mo with crazy hair. Rage face at the camera, ZS just recycles the same stuff he has been doing since The 300.... Kinda surprised there wasn't lightening underwater in Aquaman  Anyhow yes he didn't direct this, but it's obvious he was involved somehow.

The sooner they completely remove ZS from any production going forward the better, I mean everything, no influence what so ever. No production house, no writing, no producer or otherwise. Hopefully this is what James Gunn is hoping to do. They don't have to be like Marvel or anything that complex, just put out some decent movies!

Watched this last night on Amazon Prime in 4K. I really loved this. Rylance and Johnny Flynn in particular are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Lethal Weapon (1987)
Lethal Weapon (1987).jpg

Watched this one for Christmas, as it is one of my favorite Christmas movies.

Side note for anyone that likes the Lethal Weapon movies, Rigs did not have an accent in the first movie, but he sounds like an Aussie in the second about 50% or more of the time on Lethal Weapon 2. The third movie, his accent totally disappeared, and sounds totally American. Mel Gibson seemed to have lost his accent sometime in the 90's, but I guess it was still lingering for LW2.

Just something I noticed from watching the movies so many times over the years.

Enola Holmes (2020)- I suspect I am in the minority, but I did not care for this. I’ve decided I don’t like characters who are constantly talking to the camera because it reduces my immersion in the story. I hated that in She-Hulk too.
Just curious, do you feel the same about Deadpool?

Even more than the show, I hate what they did to Daredevil. I have a feeling the DD: Born Again is going to be really bad. Listening to Charlie Cox (guy that plays DD) in interviews about the new show, it doesn't sound good.

Marvel has really gotten pretty bad, especially the MCU Phase 4.

Spider-Man: NWH pretty much carried Phase 4 financially, and was (imo) one of the only good ones. I assume Sony really benefits from SM:NWH, and probably not Disney as much.

These movies are too expensive, and without the original Avengers involved, these movies are no longer guaranteed to be in the $1 billion club. I can't see Disney keep going this direction with their Marvel content if they are becoming financially risky.

Black Panther 2 looks like it is actually going to be losing money in the box office. Considering it had no competition for over a month, and the fact that the marketing budget was so high for this one, this is pretty bad for Marvel and Disney.

I bet there are going to be some big changes at Marvel pretty soon.

Deadpool is an exception and I liked it. :) Marvel peaked in Phase 3 due to the, as reported, almost accidental Infinity Stone Saga that developed and came together to dominate movie screens. I’m waiting for BP2 to stream.

I served and supported the Harrier Force in Germany, one of our guy's had a deep personal issue. RAF put him a Harrier trainer, flew at max speed to UK, VTOL landing in the hospital carpark...

So yeah sometimes **** happens...
I think you meant 1986?

Enjoy the first movie way more then the followup Maverick, which I feel is over rated and forgettable.

Yeah LOL. The 2022 film is very much a copy and paste job and just another Tom Cruse vehicle. The 86 film was more of an ensemble cast that delivered across the board. Not that I'm complaining given the trash that's mostly served up these days...

Just finished the very amusing The Menu, as produced by Will Ferrell. Ralph Fiennes gives a stellar performance, and the movie reminded me of Chef (2014).

Agreed. Maverick felt more like a remake of the original than a sequel. Same locations, same gimmicks, same dialog, etc. I get that they were purposely trying to do this as a "throwback" type of thing, but I think they went too far.

I'm glad I didn't waste the $$ on seeing Maverick in the theater.

Just wrapping up the HBO documentary about the January 6th insurrection This Place Rules, hosted by American journalist Andrew Gallaghan. It's both hilarious because there are so many people making fools of themselves, but at the same time maddening because these people live among us.
